This is the discussion thread for an article on GTPlanet:

Project Motor Racing “Update 2.0” Released, Japanese GT500 DLC Coming Next Week

It’s been a busy few months for Straight4 Studios. After a rough start for Project Motor Racing, the team has stayed true to its roadmap, delivering a steady stream of improvements to the game. Today marks the arrival of its most significant milestone yet with the release of Update 2.0 and a new Japanese GT500 DLC pack coming at the end of the month...

Really wish this game had a demo, more so I would've preferred a proper PC4 though... at least Ive got the originals with PSSR buffings now...

Have they figured out how to have more than 16 cars on track at once on console? Multiclass is still entirely pointless until they do.

TBH I could just pick this one up on PC, but the fact they can't have parity on current hardware still boggles me a bit.

So that's where the RSS cars went to...at least the Viper

If you mean when playing them on the PS5 Pro, they don't have PSSR upscaling support. The new update doesn't add it to all games, it just forces the latest PSSR version for games that already supported it. In the case of the Project Cars games, all the Pro does is use the "enhance PS4 games" setting, which is basically just a sharpening filter, and run them at max resolution if it is dynamic.

PMR does have the PS5 Pro enhanced label but I don't think it's ever been made clear what they've actually changed.

The steam player numbers went up from the usual 50 to about 350 after the update, so maybe a few of those will stick around and fill out the online lobbies.

Yeah im happy with with PSSR it makes some ropey PS4 games serviceable on a 75" TV, the second addition has buffed Motorfest and GT7 nicely too its quite subtle though the difference not sure the outlay on the pro was value... I will probably reap the benefit most with GTA VI and Intergalactic going forwards. Been playing a lot of project cars 3 this generation and without the PS5 buffs it was looking a bit haggard to say the least.

Do you enjoy PMR's gameplay? Im not sure about it myself.

I'm on the fence. Tried it on PC on a mate's rig and it was ok, probably a bit too hardcore for my simcade tastes. I like the idea of it more than the execution. Honestly I'm more likely to get Rennsport to play on PS5, once the DLC packs are out.

I feel they’ve done a better job with the faux liveries in PC2. So good I even made replicas(using PD and player decals) in GT7 of the Group A cars.

Whatever brings you fun is good. For me PMR offers a lot that I like and have fun with in singleplayer. Although it is a different game for me it shows the same pros and cons as Pcars2 (and I do/did like it).

Rennsport has a problem in my opinion as it was built around Multiplayer and they have no players...

The recent update is just another small step of improvement and the silly Chally-Wally gives a taste of what could be with further modding. Now let the GT series happen! 😍

The GT500 pack is excellent, some of the best feeling cars in the game by a mile. Okayama/Takamiya is excellent as well, always loved it in iRacing and it is just as good here.

I had a chance to A/B the game on my PC rig during the free play weekend and the results were as expected, I compared it to AMS2 and it simply doesn't hold a candle to the more established game. Using the GT 2004/5 cars in both, racing on Spa, PMR was fine, jus a little frustrating and inconsistent with the AI behaviour being somewhat erratic, the car sometimes randomly snapping without warning (used the Murcielago R-GT in both games). AMS2 just felt a bit more alive, cars broke traction more naturally and responded better to being pushed. The AI are also better in AMS2, far from perfect, but I felt I could trust them more wheel to wheel and when going for a pass, they don't try to turn in anyway, they occasionally make contact, and that player to AI contact is where PMR has an edge, in AMS2 you tend to bounce off and spin while the AI is unaffected. In PMR the cars are a bit more robust to contact.

Visually AMS2 is superior, the lighting, level of detail, reflections and track detail are much better than in PMR. The irony being that AMS2 runs on Madness engine which powered pCars. PMR has improved with 2.0 but the environments and overall detail still feel lacking and the cars don't sit in the environments well in my opinion.

I think ams2 is the perfect sim for me. It has all the content i’m looking for and the vr is meant to be amazing. I just don’t know if i can bring myself to spend the money on a pc

Yeah it's a relatively large investment for one game. I bought a relatively ok gaming laptop for about £600, which is still a lot of money but it was that or a PS5 Pro really and the prospect of AMS2, LMU and a few other games tipped me towards the gaming laptop. I then have that connected to an external monitor I picked up for £30 and in all compared to some systems it turned out to be a pretty good buy. I can play AMS2 on ultra at 1080p (1080 monitor), which is plenty good enough for me, LMU on mid/high, AC Rally on mid with DLSS balanced and ETS2 on max as well.
