It doesn't help that Ian Bell is not well liked. I think if he didn't hype things so much maybe folks wouldn't happy to see the game fail? I am sad also. It is easy to jump Ian Bell but what about the S4 employees who aren't devs but worked hard on this game? Unfortunately they have to catch strays for their leader
Ehh. They dish it out too. It’s not all just Ian Bell. I read some people can’t even open their game. There’s issues and the there’s issues. Like I said, they are all a sarcastic bunch and it’s biting them in the

My first impressions are not too bad.
PS5 and on controller.

Played about 3 hours.
Controller settings only needed an sensitivity adjustment.

Tried some practice sesions in the Aston GT4 on Zolder, the M4 GT3 at Nurburgring, and the C8 GT3 at Daytona and Sebring.
All felt pretty good.
I could feel grip loss, catch slides and put the cars exactly where I wanted.

Then did a evening to night time race in the Mustang GT4 at Donington.
Also felt pretty good, could really push the car.

But man, the Hypercars are borked....
Just no grip whatsoever.
Won't drive straight, won't turn neither.

Hopefully they'll sort that class out, as those cars were one of the main reasons why I've bought the game.

People go on about Ian Bell not being liked and how he hypes things up, etc. So, why get so excited about this game? If you have had previous experience about being disappointed, why jump into the fire once again? Touch of masochism, perhaps? 🤣
Well, for once, I expected a game somewhat alike Project CARS 2.
They have a very good car list but like always, it's a jack of all trades, master of none. Then, the trailers that they release are very well made, It's near impossible not to get hyped.

Man, don't be sad. It's the first damn day. AC came out and they changed the physics all over the place until it got to be one of the best. iRacing has been called iceRenting for a reason. AMS2 came out and they changed the physics until it was wonderful.
Stop listening to the whiney brats. After a few months, if nothing changes, lets start complaining. Unfortunately this is the state of sims released today.

Such as 🔽whiney brat alert below🔽

Exactly what I needed to hear, and sounds like something I would write.🙇‍♂️

Unfortunately it still doesnt stop people lacking in general intelligence from falling for the bluster again and again.

"Lacking in general intelligence" is quite an accusation. Usually, those who speak like this are of a certain sort. I am glad not to know you in person.

Simple, PC and PC2

I had no experience with any of that. Project Cars was good. I liked them both. I only experienced this other stuff recently being part of the PMR discord. I even defended before that discord. Actually I bought into the hype about how PC3 wasn’t anybody’s fault but the publisher etc. It’s a different story when you jump in further and see how they comment and reply to potential customers. Unless you bow down before them and give them a compliment in your question, they like to throw their sarcastic remarks in there haha

Give them a minute or two or 734.

I haven't read many of the comments or criticisms directed towards the publisher bar one. A guy questioned why McLaren wasn't in the game. But it was the way that he phrased it. Something like "Why no McLaren? No 720s, no Artura, no GTR" If I was one of the team and someone began a question in such a fashion, hand on heart, I would react sarcastically. If on the other hand, it was something like "Guys, could you explain in a little more detail why McLaren is not in the game this time round?" I think they would have responded very differently.

My thoughts after a couple hours so far

  • When joining a ranked race, you can register, but then have to wait for qualy to start, what the hell? No practice, not even by myself?
  • Social races are dumb, defeats the purpose of it being social by having 10mins of qualifying. I only had time for a single race in between server restarts, and spent 10mins in the MX-5 perfecting my time, only to get yeeted in the first lap causing my engine to blow up and I was stuck in the middle of the track, getting DQ'd.
  • Social vs Ranked seems poorly thought out, they should all be ranked, but varying lengths, if someone wants to do something social, let them create a lobby, also seems like there are too many race classes going on at once, Forza made this mistake, even GT7 with it's massive fan-base knows to keep things succinct to funnel the player base into wide matchmaking pools.
  • It's basically a requirement to turn damage off in single player due to the AI being too aggressive
  • Damage from door banging is too much, it should really just be superficial, with the aggressive AI you can barely get a lap in before your car can't point straight anymore.
  • I actually quite enjoyed the physics in some of the cars that others have found bad, it feels like I can catch oversteer before it snaps, and even though the collision physics feel off, it feels like I can have a bit of door banging without getting spun, just a shame about the abovementioned damage model.
  • Default views are fine, but I would like to be able to change the position of the bonnet/roof cam's, one is too high and one is too low for my tastes.
  • Needs an option to disable the steering wheel in cockpit view
  • Graphics are an obvious mixed bag, I managed to get mine running mostly over 60fps, but the time of day cycle is really jarring, sunset feels very strange. I'd also like some more control on graphics settings, I don't particularly care for the lush grass, would rather disable it and get those render cycles back.
  • The game needs a radar, with the way the AI is I had so many instances where an AI was side by side and just rams me on straights like I don't exist, plus some of them get yeeted and you have no idea if they are still there or not.
  • telemetry looks like it doesn't have any signals for other car positions, which I guess means a 3rd party radar will be impossible.

Overall, I went in with low expectations, but as others have pointed out, it's even worse than I feared, with all the talk of the dev's on discord warning folks away from grey market key site's, plus the price increase in the last few weeks (when they obviously knew the game was not up to snuff), it makes me happy I got the game at a steep discount on cdkeys instead of the insane price on steam.

I'm going to focus a bit on the modding aspects, I'll spend my racing time elsewhere in the meantime while I wait for the MP experience to improve, which is a huge shame, I was hoping this game would provide a decent service for those in less populated timezones, but I guess back to GT7 I go until then.

Usually in the gaming industry it’s the consumer that’s usually the whiny brat
In this case it’s the developer

To be fair I did enjoy PC2 and I also found PC1 good, PC3 was the only let down and I didn't fully follow PMR from beginning to release.

I'm more shock by the state of which this game has been release games cost way to much and plus with Sony being so bad with refunds 70$+ for some(me include) is alot.

Thanks to @Beezer215 for reminding me that a positive outlook is always best...

It would have been too much work to switch my USBC cord to the Xbox anyway.

So, I immediately took the GT3 Corvette to Monza (Brianza) and it handles like a DREAM, right out of the box with no setting changes.

Whatever the first view is after the cockpit view where you can see most of the hood, it gives you an incredible sense of speed

The graphics are still a little weak for me. One of the creators said she felt that reminded her of I racing and I have to agree.

Anybody know how to see the damage that your vehicle has sustained? I've cycled through all the options while driving and I don't see anything that shows damage

Watching Jimmy Broadbents video and I’m just going to wait for fixes etc. I have Forza GT7 ACC project cars so I’ll just wait. I love aaa gaming 😉 😾
I wouldn’t even call this AAA
More like two and a half As
It’s a real shame this turned out to be such a dumpster fire given how the Career Mode actually seems to be doing something a little bit different to the others

You can disable the wheel in the cockpit view, or at the very least remove it.

I would say it's the exact opposite. It's the consumer, as per usual. Same thing happened with GT7 and Forza 2023 at launch. Same story with Test Drive and TCM. Moaning and groaning where there is legitimacy to do so and when not.
The fact is, the majority of today's racing games launch with issues that get fixed over time. It's just the way it is. No one can conceive of every possible glitch that may occur once launched from a central server across multiple platforms.

True but I’ve often thought people are rude in discords only to find they don’t speak English and that’s why they say “why no McLaren? No this no that? Why?” It’s essentially like a child asking… it very well could be too. Sometimes you have to bite your tongue and just respond with facts and leave it at that.

Oh well. I ain’t buying the dumpster fire until the fires been put out.

Project CARS 2 is really, really good though. Like seriously good. The way people go on, you’d think this lot were the team behind some of the biggest atrocities in videogaming history, rather than a game that still arguably stands as the best console racing sim available. It’s a personality thing with Bell, people just want to slap him down. He probably deserves it to a degree. But they genuinely have a decent track record and I still hold out hope that eventually this will be something worth some love.

Played this for 2h straight on PS5. N-GT GT and GTO. Having an absolute blast driving these machines. Graphics are sometimes lovely but most of the time not the best to say mildly. Replays are terrible, no other words. That aside, I love the driving 👌
Good to know. Thought the replays looked horrible in the posts. Graphics were hard to tell by YouTube videos since everything has a weird look to it.

They insist that the AI runs on the same physics as players do, but from all I've seen that doesn't seem to be the case. Either something's not translating correctly in the engine or there's something else at play. Tire temps, track temps? How do the AI's tires' temps work? There's no way to track those in-game, you can only see yours.

Another thing, I think the FFB settings should include presets. PCARS 2 had presets for "feel" but you still had to adjust the strength and detail. There need to be simplified options as well.

I haven't looked particularly deeply, but there's an if...else... block in each of the car's files that selects the particular tire to use for player vs AI, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is indeed the case

Having an absolute blast driving these machines.

Had you made that post and the only car I had driven was the GT4 Supra, I'd be scratching my head.

But, having just finished my seven lap qualifier at Monza in the GT3 Corvette, I know exactly what you're saying and I concur.

Yeah, it's not just the views that are limited. It seems to be a lot of the deeper option stuff that we're used to from PC2, is just not here.

I also cannot find explanations for making adjustments in setups. In most racing games when you were in the setup menu, you should get a little explanation of what that particular change might affect.

I don't see that here, but then again, I could be missing something very obvious 🤷‍♂️

EDIT: here's an example of how bare Bones the options are. I put on the replay (which are terrible by the way, as has already been mentioned) because I wanted to follow the driver who qualified first by not only watching him but seeing what gear he was in at each turn

In PC2, you would cycle the cameras until you got to any of the 3 cockpit cameras, and you can see what gear the AI driver was in when he hit each turn

You cannot do that n this game. There is no cockpit option while watching a replay 🤬

There is no way to see what gear in AI driver was in during a replay.

After following all the comments today I´ve refunded my pre-order on PS5. Obviously others can't judge for me but I don't like to support shipping an unfinished prodcut, it's why I've hardly bought any games at release the last years.

Really hope the game gets the support and development it deserves. Especially on consoles we can really use a good sim.
For the upcoming holiday I will go back to Project Cars 2.
