Project CARS 2 is really, really good though. Like seriously good. The way people go on, you’d think this lot were the team behind some of the biggest atrocities in videogaming history, rather than a game that still arguably stands as the best console racing sim available. It’s a personality thing with Bell, people just want to slap him down. He probably deserves it to a degree. But they genuinely have a decent track record and I still hold out hope that eventually this will be something worth some love.
Eeehhh, nah, he definitely deserves it. He's like the Randy Pitchford of sim racing; I’d trust anyone else to be in charge of this team.

PC2 is a good sandbox, it’s a fun time and I’ve enjoyed the game and have all the DLC, but it launched with a ton of game breaking bugs and the physics weren’t perfect and take some getting used to. I hate the feeling of countersteering in that game especially. Also it lacked any sauce in its career mode and had the usual racing sim list of boxes to check and that was about it. Pretty boring.

To play once in a while and do a few races. It was good, but no single player championships or an interesting career mode hurt its replayability imo.

That’s why it’s so baffling that PMR promised to fix all that but still is missing features even PC2 had on launch like rolling starts.

"There was a change to some slicks which caused a heat fall-off issue leading to grip anomalies on those tyres.
There was some last minute safety code put in to cap the FFB force max to remove potentially dangerous jolts. But it also removed a lot of FFB feel/nuance...
We've reverted some AI code that affected their proximity logic adversely. They now race again like they used to, like on the video I linked."

These are all fundamentally game-breaking issues, and I see now where everyone's issues with the game arose from.

Fellow game devs, don't rush your game releases...

After following all the comments today I´ve refunded my pre-order on PS5. Obviously others can't judge for me but I don't like to support shipping an unfinished prodcut, it's why I've hardly bought any games at release the last years.

Really hope the game gets the support and development it deserves. Especially on consoles we can really use a good sim.
For the upcoming holiday I will go back to Project Cars 2.

1. Nobody's opinion on your use of your own money matters. I respect you for getting that refund.

The only reason I didn't do the same is because I wanted to support/thank the team for giving me PC2.

I knew the risks going in. And, if I eventually shelve the game, I don't care that I lost 100 dollars. It's an investment in racing games on console, in general.

2. You can't go wrong with PC2. That is still my favorite console racer. Nothing is close. Nothing is as deep and feature rich, not even this, at least, not yet.

Personally not expecting the next few patch to be that great, but we’ll see.

Nice Catch

At least he's communicating and seems to be taking steps to correct things. That's something🤷‍♂️

Angry people in the comments calling him a shill or a liar, so that’s interesting…

Well, he is. Imagine believing that AC is the best at everything when it doesn't even have rolling starts, full course yellows, blue flags, AI that know how to pit, well, AI that know how to be good AI at all. An aging tire model. The whole thing is aging to be honest. The only thing keeping AC alive is CSP, PURE, heaps of mod content and the nice physics, however it is a severely aged experience that has been surpassed by titles of today.
And don't get me wrong, I love AC, always will.
This is a GREAT example of why you shouldn't take opinions of youtube wankers and just try stuff for yourself.
I mean look at where he place PMR for fizziks and FFB. Are you kidding me?
In my opinion, anything this clown makes isn't worthy of sharing.

Yeah. What’s confusing me is that he’s blaming the day 1 patch, but people were having issues before that. Quite confusing what "perfect" build he was using at this point to make his bold claims.

I just ran 10 or so laps round Spa in the Audi LMP900, base PS5 and only the pad tonight...
Graphically it's not actually as bad looking as I had feared, frame rate was mostly solid, certainly around 60fps, a couple of minor stutters and screen tear but hardly persistent. The track looked fine, the cars looked fine, sounded ok too. No horrendous pop in that I could see.
No idea why we need the track name visible in the HUD during a session but whatever.

I turned penalties off in the main menu yet was still racking them up and time was still added at the end of my race, which makes no sense.

Got blue flags for the overtaking leaders yet no one was visible in my mirrors.

UI and menus are pretty bare bones but the music is awesome. Tweaked the HUD elements and all was working fine.

As far as handling goes, I didn't adjust anything from the options and it seemed quite driveable. A little oversteery but I think only some minor tweaks will get it handling well enough to start really pushing.

But by far the most annoying aspect we're the brutal killer kerbs. Jeez. There's plenty of kerbs round Spa that you can and should hit yet this game will put you in the wall if you so dare. A couple were ok but 90% of them sent me spinning off the road. Gravel and grass also has a similar effect. Way too OTT and needs dialing down.

All in all I'm not as put off as some folk are. I was starting to regret my pre order but you know what, I didn't find the game so bad, with the 1 car, 1 track combo I've tried.
Next time the wheel will get a dusting off to test that.

You cannot do that n this game. There is no cockpit option while watching a replay 🤬

There is no way to see what gear in AI driver was in during a replay.
Probably can’t handle it since “the AI are using the same physics as the player” haha

Somebody mentioned we’ll see what they say when they can’t fall back on “that’s probably an early build” excuse. You’re right there were concerns and issues before hand.

I think in general I’m done preordering anything. Developers shot themselves in the foot doing the preorder stuff and the live game or whatever it’s called where they continually update. It’s smoke and mirrors for we don’t have the game finished, please buy it and hopefully we can finish it.

I only played for 45 mins on PC during practice sessions this morning before work. It wasn't much, but confirmed what everyone is saying. It's a mixed bag and a let down with some bright spots.

The Valkyrie hypercar was uncontrollable. GT3/GTE was ok along with FFB for those and surprisingly ok with no tweaks. (Merc Evo and Aston). I do see the potential in this title if they work at it. AI is the most oblivious in any racing game, it's like PS2 ERA GT but somehow worse. They just run into you. No situational awareness at all.

It was nice to see an AI driver but the curb and fight against the slide but eventually lose and go sideways. I love to see AI mistakes

❓ Is there no radar/proximity indicator ❓

Even though it's a very basic car, I'm really enjoying the MX-5. For me, the handling is superior to PC2, at least in the cars I've used. The sound is sublime, although graphically I find it rather basic. I'm really annoyed that I couldn't run an online ranked race because of that damned error 44. This afternoon I saw several ranked servers with more than 50 players; hopefully they'll stay active so we can enjoy some good online races. By the way, I can't move the virtual rearview mirror to the middle of the screen; it only goes in the right corner. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong.

The soundtrack is awesome..

Not sure who the game is aimed at, as some sim players are dismissing it as sim-cade and many sim-cade fans are gonna get frustrated losing control due to cold/hot tyres/kerbs (not to mention the Ai) I don't hate it but it needs lots of work. Trouble is, we've seen how hard it is to win players back after a bad launch with Forza M and Test Drive.

Well straight off the bat I have a problem.

Why is the game not in full screen?

Also when it asked me to center my steering wheel it never got to 0%. It would only get to 1%.

I thought the 16 car grid limit was for multi-class but I'm doing a simple race weekend at Monza in the GT3 class and cannot get more than 16 cars. BTW, how does a PS4 allow for 30+ cars in a multiplayer race on an 8-year-old game, but the PS5 Pro which is so much more powerful can't handle more than 16?

Is anyone else getting rammed from behind by the AI? It's happened to me so many times I can't complete a race at Monza

I dislike that there is no proximity radar

I dislike that you cannot pick a starting position in your grid. You either qualify and get what you get or you just start last

Does anyone have usable settings for the Fanatec CSL Elite wheel on PS5? Played around an hour, and it was genuinely horrible. Anything hypercar or prototype-esque were literally undrivable. GT cars and lower were better but still terrible. Steering felt very unpredictable, low-speed force feedback was very light, and it felt like I had either a huge deadzone in the steering, or my inputs were being massively delayed. Also had random spikes and drops in FFB that were completely out of the blue and didn't correspond to anything I was doing.

I tried changing pretty much everything and tried multiple combinations, but it still is borderline unplayable. Also tried to look up some settings on YT, but most were for PC and/or DD wheels.

Like, I genuinely have never felt a game feel so awful.

The graphics don’t look as bad as GT Legends from back in the day but idk, maybe more closer to GTR2 only a bit sharper? I watched somebody’s base PS5 replay and at first it looks good but the more I watch the more underwhelming it is. It all kind of looks computery and fake. Maybe there’s missing some lighting or something. I can put my finger on it.

The replays looks absolutely horrendous though haha

Recipe:
Hire freelance to draw some 3d models
Buy physics assets from UI or Unity store
Invest to PR campaign
Gain profit
Announce some promises

Ps: for PS5 , visually, this piece of art does looks like a piece of non-art . Physics feels the same

Yeah having a 32 car grid does nothing for me if I have to start at the back all of the time. If you're not doing qualifying you should be able to pick your starting position.

I ran 4 races. Mazda MX-5 Cup, Porsche 964, Ford Mustang GT3, and Cadillac LMDh. I would run one race, tweak or try something else for the next one, etc. I used the same wheel settings for my Fanatec CSL DD that I use for AMS2 and the in game FFB settings that Gamermuscle suggested.

For the Mazda race I let it run on 1080p. I don't have a good eye for frame rate drops etc. but it did look a little dull. Ran the Porsche race on full 4k. It definitely looked better and I only noticed some pop ins very rarely. Maybe a couple of times in a 10 lap race. No stutters or anything like that.

The AI is awful. Zero awareness where they are or where you are. There was one race where on the starting grid, an AI car was turned about 80 degrees to the left. But once the lights when out it suddenly snapped back into place. I'll have to do some tweaking with the AI strength because it appears to be all over the place. The modern cars run much faster lap times than the older cars do so 90 is a lot different depending the class.

As for the cars I liked the Mazda and the Porsche. The Mustang was more difficult and lost some feeling in the steering and FFB. I don't know if it's true for the other GT3's but the Mustang wanted to kick it's rear end out under throttle coming out of tight low speed turns. The Cadillac LMDh is not very good at all. It does feel like it's on skates. I don't think I'll run those cars again until there is a fix for them.

I'm going to dig around for some more FFB settings and maybe that will help a little.
