This is peak gaslighting. The guy is using 4xfg and the 5090's using well over 500W, the game still looks awful, he has a terrible time, the AI crash into him all the time, he get penalties unfairly, but still says it's good. He slates the Youtubers like Super Gt and Jimmy, because they reviewed it from an early access release, and says he's losing trust in them because they're beholden to their sponsors. 😂

He's either got a head like box of rocks, or he's very clever 😂😂

I wouldn't say it looks awful, looks fine. Obviously the AI and penalty issues are rubbish and his comments are, curious.

Really? To me it looks like a washed out PC2
I didn't say good😉, I said not awful. That being said, having play PC2 and PC3 very recently in the build up to this launch, I do think it has the edge on them in quite a few areas. PC2/3 do have the edge in others, but I, personally, prefer the slightly more natural look of PMR, I think the colours are more true to life.

I'm going to do my full initial review later with a bit more detail, not sure whether to do it as a written wall of text or brave the camera and speak it.

EDIT: I should caveat I'm on PS5, pCars runs in PS4 mode and there isn't any 'boost' that I know of so I'm not on an all singing all dancing PC able to max it out.

I've played both back to back: and that's exactly what it is in terms of graphics. In combination with half-finished tracks (just look at the comparison video a few pages back) it gives off a half-assed look. A step back for sure.

I don't think a 2017 title should look that much better in the lighting department, considering all the advances we've had in global illumination, ray tracing, etc. since 2015 when development of PC2 started (slightly before the release of PC1). Especially coming from what's mostly the same team. That said: I'm not sure the guy that did all the nifty GPU stuff back in PC1 and 2 was back for this round.

The car models in PMR are noticeably better.

I'm gonna pretend this title doesn't exist and check it out in a year. I'm not surprised by these gameplay issues tbh, watching YouTubers talk about-face the title during the expo I got the impression they were not being honest. They were not particularly hyping the game up but they did come across as though they were holding their real opinions back.

Given the variance in quality between the cars (and tracks imo) at the moment, what car/track combinations are people enjoying?

I've been running the C5.R at Sebring as i've been looking forward to Sebring. Though i think it looks more washed out (as does Lime Rock) than some of the tracks and seems to have little to no difference in terms of which season you choose, whereas Donington seems to be more vivid, and has nice difference between summer and autumn (i'm on PS5 btw).

I'm also enjoying the 992 Cup Car at Donington.

That bonnet cam… the car literally doesn’t move. It’s a picture. The world moves, the car doesn’t even budge. It’s a still image. I’ll have to watch more footage but maybe cockpit view is the same. Something has been looking of to me and maybe that’s it. It’s like the car has no suspension it just floats and everything else moves.

Even when he hits the corvette, the still image car just suddenly crunches up but doesn’t rock or anything.

It's not a still image/picture, you can see different reflections on different angled parts of the hood. The camera is fixed directly to the hood though, no wobble. I can't unsee it after you pointed it out though.

Well, I'm sceptical about the bashing the game get, it deserve some OK, but not that much or not that strong, the game has potential and can be fixed, it is playable for the most part even if not perfect, the basics are good (except graphics)

TDU was litterally unplayable at launch and was developped wrong on bad concepts, AC has a rocky start on console as well, ACC too, Forza for a AAA game has a disastrous launch with deep conception issues, GT7 has his own flaws ans issues at launch too

I don't understand why these so much hate around this game

Nah it'd be awesome.
Imagine those physics playable in its own Arcade mode type menu, like Gran Turismo 3 had? Would be wonderful, and make it way more accessible for casual players.
Exactly! I have a wheel setup. But a lot of the time after a night in the garage I like to wind down in bed with a controller. Would be perfect for that.

That said, I've been given a review copy (but not sponsored) of this for the Xbox, and hope to start it tomorrow night. Will be doing a full review from both sides - controller and wheel - from a perspective of casual and entry-level sim racer.

I'm trying my best to be optimistic from what I'm seeing. But it's very hard.
That said, I've had some of the best racing of my life online in FM23. And look how that started.

We'll soon see.

I’ve noticed that the statistics within the Driver Profile menu > Stats > General is missing a few of the classes, such as GT, 964 trophy and 992 trophy

Its what Ian Bell does best isnt it?.. Create a big hype amongst simracers/racing game enthousiasts. Saying a polished game will come out with the best ffb ever created, best AI, best handling cars and realism in tracks.. this is all ventilated on different forums and websites. Then on release day, litterally not one of those claims appear to be true. An alpha state title got handed over to people who pre-ordered or bought the game on release day and he puts a small message on X saying he "ffed up" and people have to wait on patches... Im skeptical patches will fix this.. i dont think this 2025 title will ever be better than PC1 from 2015.
