Just spent another couple of hours with it, starting a career with the MX-5, couple of time attack runs and the driving is just damn enjoyable, despite its many criticisms and nearly all of them justified, I’m actually having a dang good time just actually racing.
I find the handling to be spot on too, those using controllers may think otherwise and I really do sympathise.
It has a lot of spit and polish to be sorting out with the AI, graphics , and general bugs but as for the actual driving, I’m loving it so far.

I think you said you have a Fanatec CSL DD which is what I have. Are you on PC or console?

I tried this guy's settings and it kind of ok but still not where I would like it to be. It makes the steering wheel shake like you're in a rally car on gravel instead of on a track. His suggestion of going into each car's settings and making adjustments there just didn't feel good at all. The car felt too heavy and sluggish and it numbed the steering.

 
Now that I think about it, in the 10-lap race I was on the medium tires and only noticed a loss of grip due to tire overheating. I didn't check for any wear indicators or anything. When testing with medium and soft tires to see if I could get better lap times, the only thing I noticed was that the softs heated up faster than the mediums, and little else. Have they abandoned the tire wear indicator, and now the need to change tires is based on tire temperature? Does anyone know anything about this?
 
Soo I had another crack after downloading the update last night and my experience was fantastic. The controller feedback was excellent as I could feel the tyres moving across the road surface, so it was easy to figure out how much grip I had at any moment. Such is the advantage of a high refresh rate. This did however feel a little unnerving in the Camaro GTO but once I pushed through it, I could drive it as I wanted. I think it's important to consider how you read feedback through a controller because if you react to the wrong thing, you can find yourself in trouble. I also drove the DBR9 and C5.R which very much required a different approach compared to a GTE or GT3 car. You have to be smooth with your inputs and exercise extra patience going in and out of a corner. Remember that and you will have a good time. One car I struggled with was the Panoz Roadster, which is already something of an oddball due to it's front-engined layout. The weight transfer from left to right in the front was quite bizarre and I threw myself off the track several times as a result at Mid-Ohio. It wasn't any better on Donnington, so I then chose the Audi R8 in LMP900 for my next outing on the Red Bull Ring and WOW did it deliver. I felt as though I could thrash the car all day and all night... No wonder it was soo successful. I also took out the M4 and Mustang GT4 which were rather easy to drive, although I did struggle to take the Mustang through the Esses and The Dipper on Bathurst. However I think that was a skill issue and not a game one. The M4 was fine as long as I didn't feed it second gear. Overall, this game really delivers and people like Jimmy and Steve are dead wrong about the controller handling. It's class leading. There. I said it. Top tip: make sure auto clutch, auto blip, auto cut and ABS is ON.
 
That's interesting. I think the thing about a game like this is everyone is looking for something different. And when you find that it makes the game enjoyable for you. Not saying it's good or great because but it's enjoyable. Dynasty Warriors 9 is considered a flop and caused Koei Tecno to reset the series with Origins. Truth be told I love DW9 I played it a lot and got a lot of enjoyment out of it. Was it a great game ? No it's not and a lot of the complaints people have about are legit but they don't stop me from enjoying it. I think it's the same with PMR right now it has a lot of problems but is there some fun to be had? For people yes for others no. I think whenever I get it I will enjoy it

Physics engines use a ton of processor. To save some overhead, developers tend to use a dumbed-down model for non player cars.

These comments make me think that the problems should at least be fixable for the masses.

What does auto blip and auto cut mean? I can't figure that out.

Auto blip blips the throttle for you on downshifting, auto cut cuts the ignition on upshifting so you can leave the pedal to the metal while accelerating through the gears. All of that is done to help prevent driveline shocks that can lock or spin the drive wheels. Heard of a quickshifter on motorcycles? Same deal.

Yeah it’s a weird statement. According to Silent on twitter, the AI is technically running on the same physics, but with simplified tires and running at 180hz instead of 720hz. So yeah I don’t see the point and I’m not sure if it’s any different to what they were doing with pCARS.

Well yeah, a lot of games are polished up… after the fact. My point is if people keep preordering (I’m guilty of it) then this stuff happens. Some will say it’ll happen no matter what, but not if everyone stops with the preorders. Idk I’m glad I didn’t preorder now and I don’t think I will. Hot Wheels came out I thought hey that looks fun, I’ll preorder it but never got around to it, ended up on PS+ and saw the newer one drop huge in price shortly after release.

Nickel and diming people with unfinished or not well thought out games. Make em sweat, no more preorders haha

They probably needed funds to keep working on the game and went with pre-orders intead of EA. In retrospective they should have went with EA. Because they chose pre-orders they could not delay or release with less content than what was announced. People would have been more willing to fund the game's further development if they were honest, myself included.

I'm glad people are enjoying the game, but I can't shake the feeling that they were being dishonest.

Example: a few days before release, they posted a video of an AI race with the Porsche Cup car at Sebring. We now know the AI behavior in that video had some red flags and was surely edited and played in a way to not show the lack of awareness issues, hence the driver always pulled out when they went into a turn side by side.

They could have been honest and said they were working on that and that it was a known issue. And say that for some classes the AI was not fully developed and pile on each other in the first lap. They didn't. They let people believe it was the best AI ever. Yes the most informed knew that the simracing expo build had terrible AI and that it would take more than a month to fix it, but most didn't.

I understand why they weren't honest, it would make lots of people to refund and they didn't have the cash to refund, but it doesn't make it right. They put themselves in the corner and now need to find a way, and money, to get out. I'm not too confident they can pull it off and bring the game to level of polish and quality they set out, and marked it, to be. But let's hope they do. I wanted this game to be LMU for consoles, and if they pull it off it may very well be.
 
Now I find out if you play with the Default settings for the Controler Buttons then the FFB and Haptic FB is working.
When I change the Button settings, I replaced the Acceleration and Breaking From L2/L1 to X and squere, than the FFB and Haptic FB is not working.
This shouldn't be like that...

One thing I really like is the tire system; you have to know how to use them in a race.

I just raced in a lobby with 20 players in Imola, a 10-lap race, and despite having played very little GT3 cars so far, I managed to climb through the field even against faster players. If you go flat out entering the corners, you might go faster, but the tires overheat with each extra drift.
In the final laps, I was also pushing too hard, seeing that I was catching up to the guy on the podium, and because I entered the corners too fast, the tires started to heat up to over 100 degrees Celsius, and I began to lose grip. I had to slow down, and the guy behind me almost overtook me.

I feel like the tires temperature changes are over-exaggerated. You shouldnt be able to overheat tires in a gt3 in such a short time. In other sims (and real life) the drivers can really push those cars for longer amounts of time.
I noticed something similar in the factory programm time trial, after 4 laps in the mx5 at lime rock (thats about 4 minutes of driving) my front left was at 130°C despite starting with cold tires out of the pits.
Its a good thing that tires are sensitive to heat but it feels like this is just happening too fast.

Other than that, driving some older cars (Porsche Cup, Maserati MC12) felt quite good even though i still need to fiddle with ffb. There is just way too many settings

After 10 laps of Sebring in the C5.R i did notice a couple of the tyre bars were noticeably shorter (the inside of the front left was the shortest), this was on medium tyres. So i think tyre wear is present, just takes a while to notice.

It’s shame when you go back to the pit that the “Essentials” menu only shows the last tire temp/pressure, and not tread/graining/flatspots, like ACC does

I go deeper in the game and despite the bugs, I found the foundations strong, the way the tires are managed depending the weather, season is great, true to track is promising, the sounds are on point, I really enjoying driving the old cars and GT, they have way more character
I wish they will succeed, with mods the game as a great potential

There's a pretty big difference between enthusiasm and arrogance, and he wasn't being condescending or anything so I don't see how that's really a fair comparison.

I think it's mostly wheel users in here.

I played both PMR and PC2 back to back (see my post a few pages back), with a controller. While I noticed many issues with PMR, the controller handling is not one of them. You have to be very smooth and precises with the pad, but you can feel exactly what the car is doing. And that was on default settings, pretty sure folks can come up with optimized ones. Personally I would not say 'class leading', but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

The game certainly has issues, but it doesn't need people inventing them where they don't exist.

After racing the 964 trophy cars closely against the AI at Donington, i don't think the AI gear shifts slow them down.
I can be right in the slipstream, and they drive away as each time i change gear i lose momentum, and they don't.

i hope this is on the list of fixes as it destroys the realism.
Has anyone else noticed this? At this stage i'm not sure whether it's just the 964, or all AI cars as i haven't raced as closely with other cars yet.

ahem Well, while the actual actual "day 1" fix is being erm, fixed together, at least the music is as epic as it always was. I would put Stephen Baysted's scores in the same rank as the music in Gran Turismo, but with grandiosity turned up to eleven.

Year 1 season pass is £39.99. A potentially good deal in the future if most of/all the issues get fixed.

Looking at those Steam numbers and all the other racing games, it shows that it's really tough to make an impact even with a good game. I know it's only one launcher so not the full picture, but it does seem they made a PC-first title that is currently failing on that platform.

I am always going to support transparency. This is exactly the right message and the only message that's appropriate.

I went to bed last night thinking about deleting the game all together. My first experience with the Supra was terrible and then the Corvette at Monza was fantastic

Then I went into career and had a fantastic first experience at Silverstone. I enjoyed all of it, the qualifying, the practice, the race

But yesterday evening after watching football I moved to the second race in my career and I couldn't get past qualifying because the AI doesn't see me at all. They were ramming me from both sides and from behind.

I know when it's my fault (which is quite often) when I brake a little early, at a time I'm not supposed to, but they were abusing me so badly, that after six or seven restarts I just shut it off.

This messaging gives me hope.

I hope none of them check ilija and Peter Boese patreons (AC 'Gods' who didn't even have to pay for a license to use AC as a base), I'll bet none of the S4 staffers are on 40k a month that is for sure.......
