So, I come in here every now and again to keep up with the game, and I acknoweledge that it has some faults currently.

The main thing I'd like to know is if PMR, in its current state, is at least decently playable with a controller? I know that controller was rough when the game was first released, but I'm curious if there's been any noticeable changes since.

If controller is playable, and you can be competitive online with it, I'll likely buy the game. Mostly just to have at least one enjoyable-enough modern track racer in my library, but also to have more of an IMSA-focused sandbox than FM23.

It is much better now than it was, that's for sure.
I suspect that in this game controller users will not be competing online on equal terms anytime soon. I may be wrong about that, but I feel the PD/GT7 genius of getting wheels n pads pretty equalised isn't something PMR will be able (or want?) to replicate. Gut feeling.
I'm OK with that as I'm SP-focused, though as with GT7 it'd be nice to play online now and again and be ballpark competitive.

It'd be good if they separated pad and wheel users online really (PD too), two rankings/leagues.
 
I think there’s quite a few people sitting on the fence waiting to jump in when they do all these updates. I’m one of them as I’m desperate for another racing game on series x. I’m just waiting for them to refine the controller handling. I’d say I’ll purchase it end of January in the new year
 
On the PS5 PRO during replays pressing the touch pad sends a report via a QR code, this works fine, pressing and holding the touch pad should clear the user interface but this dose not work at all, anyone else encountered this issue.
 
So I finally got round to trying the game on my GT DD Pro and yeah... it just feels really floating and not connected at all through the slow speed stuff and under power out of slow corners?

Also the AI is ridiculous. I was running it at 90 at Spa, I could barely keep up with the first place car but at the end of a 30 min race was 24 seconds in front of 3rd? Like come on. Fix this.

Last night I ran a 10 lap LMP race at Nurburgring GP in the Panoz at 80 and finished 25 seconds ahead of the 2nd place Panoz. All of the Panoz were in the top 6 or 7 places. But if I had picked a different car I probably would have finished 25 seconds behind the Panoz. It's all out of whack.

While I have not bought the game yet, with all these heavy hitting updates im seeing it's looking more and more likely I'll get this game next month. I have seen videos on YT and it is looking like a much better game since release. Just waiting for the content info of the first pack coming in January and maybe 1 more patch.

Huge update and a massive surprise. A lot of AI tweaks and improvements in here as well so very exited to try that out with the new radar.

AI Improvements
Improved AI behaviour when racing close to the player to reduce lockups and fallback behaviour.
Added new AI tweakers for in-lap and out-lap behaviour, allowing overtakes.
AI now allows overtakes by default during practice and qualifying sessions.
Increased default AI buffer sizes based on community feedback.
Exposed AI debug options and text windows for modding support.

Hmm, I didn't bother with PMR due to the shoddy release but I must admit each new patch seems to be adding some good fixes and more content. Admittedly it really should have been like this on day one but it does look like the Devs are listening to the players and making it better
Looks like I could be tempted to pull the trigger in the new year if it carries being improved like this

Also it said something about FOV settings. Does that mean that they have removed helmet cam as the default view?

I have no idea but it sounds fancy.

FOV changes have basically moved it from the cockpit setup screen to the general settings screen so it's universal rather than per car, and they've added an external FOV adjustment as well.

Here is a redo of a race I posted in the video thread, but with the new update, showcasing the improved AI and radar.


AI isn't perfect, but it's a big improvement and the addition of the radar means it's easier to make adjustments to the AI and where they are relative to you.

I'm glad they managed to get the radar in before the christmas break, that's the single biggest flaw of the game, now it gives them some breathing space to have a holiday and come back in the new year fresh.

Well, Thrustmaster wheels are now game breakingly broken on PS5 and DLSS and FSR are now not working properly on pc. So maybe not much breathing space just yet. 😅

I'm on PS5 with DD+ and I tried GT3, and the force feedback is back to being bad, just like it was at the beginning of the game (I was complaining that the force feedback felt inverted in some cars)
The M3, which had problems (it felt like driving a geared steering wheel), feels better in this latest patch.

I haven't experience this with Thrustmaster on PS5 post patch. Feels as it did prior to the patch for me.
 
CTRL Garage
Spent an hour going my through settings this morning, managed to get to a point where I can understand where I am in the braking zone and turn in, but after that nothing…

Only FFB changes I can notice is the menu layout, otherwise it’s all just feel a bit “meh”.

HUD improvements have led to my throttle and brake trace just not displaying anything as well unless there’s now a new setting I need to check or uncheck who knows…

I now have some feel of the rear end mid corner with the new update!

But now no feel on the front end on turn in… now to spend hours dialing in settings again…

Now they have destroyed good settings for Dualsense which came with previous update...

And again added about 6 more sliders.
 
Personally think this is either a sideways or backwards step. The penalty system is still ridiculous. You get kamikaze by someone off the track, lose a bunch of spots but get a penalty for cutting the track? Yeah right...

Also I feel like the handling of the GT3 has taken a backwards step? Might just be me.

I played ACC again last night for the first time in ages and my God the difference in quality is outstanding. It's the only good sim on Playstation. PMR I don't think will ever get near it.

They brought back the sliders that they removed in the previous patch since a lot of people wanted them back. Not sure what you mean by destroying good settings.

I finally made a good setup with 5.2 update and now are cars again like boats...

Here is how I set them up with last update:

I lowered Saturation zones and raised sensitivity - still not good...

Any suggestions (Dualsense)?

I’ve been casual with the game so far and mostly on controller. For me the high downforce cars are really difficult but the lower end ones are really good fun. The Porsche Cup car is lovely out of the box, but LMDh was wafty and floating along almost.

In the latest (just ended) GT7 online Time Trial seven of the top-ten fastest times (and 11 of top 20) were set on controller. If only PMR could replicate that kind of parity...

If they're messing with the settings again, I'm gonna wait it out for a bit. I was liking race weekends in PMR after the previous update made driving with the the pad more stable, but I don't buy games to repeatedly have to 'play' with settings, so maybe I'll have a quick look at things after Xmas.

I'm optimistic they'll come good in the end but it is irritating to feel you've paid for a game that isn't ready (a game that's isn't fully complete in terms of tasks and activities would be ok, but not ready in terms of basic settings etc is a different matter). GT7 was my first, and only until PMR, experience of a bad launch, so it must be a thing with driving games.
 
I'll probably end up getting this game early next year, especially if it comes down a bit in price.
My main concern is how it feels compared to other games I'm familiar with.
Such as does it drive as good as ACC or is it more like PCars2.
I've got thousands of hours on ACC but recently I've been messing around with PCars2 just to drive some tracks I've never been on and tbh it's not too bad.

Another question I have is what would I want with PMR. With ACC I was in league races most days a few years ago but that's tailed off but it also means I end up comparing racing games against ACC.
Or am I being a bit anal lol
