It seems that on console, PMR's real competition is PC2...

Nothing else has the range of cars, tracks, features and overall balance. And because online is hosted by the player, not the developer or publisher, there's no imminent danger of online shutting down...
Agreed. PMR have an awesome car list, but just can’t beat PC2 for all the above.

Tracks, no, it's a small tracklist though it does have some cool ones in there.

Had some time with 2.0, it's......fine I guess. Visuals are slightly sharper, lighting is slightly better, AI still sucks, career mode is still barebones but with a new dress on, the new tyre model is fine, doesn't do anything revolutionary, just better than it was.

LMDH, I don't understand what they're struggling with in this class, but every other game that features these car, has done a significantly better job, in PMR they just slide all the time, Eau Rouge is taken at some sort of constant drift angle, rears lock way too easily, corners consist of rear locking, catch the slide, understeer, no feel, snap of oversteer and a constant slide angle. Same goes for any of the faster classes in my experience, GT1, LMP, Group C. Have they improved? Yes. Are they good? No. LMU, AMS2, iRacing, even Rennsport, do much better jobs with the LMDH and respective faster cars. Yes, most of these games are only on PC (my PMR testing has been done on PS5), but they are still the comparison points and PMR is a long way behind them. Rennsport is the only real equivalent on PS5 aside from games that preceded them such as ACC and GT7 to some degree. Whilst Rennsport has its own long list of issues, it does have decent feeling physics in comparison to PMR, the LMDH, GT3 and other comparable classes feel better and more like what the other sims feel like. That's not to say the other sims are 100% accurate, but they're certainly more believable than PMR.

My main racing fix will remain Automobilista 2, it just does a better job across the board, if you're on PC, I still can't see a reason to buy or play PMR over any of the other options. If you're on console, it's obviously a different story, with significantly fewer options, but I'd perhaps hold out for the next big Rennsport update and see what the reception to that is like, it's entirely possible in my view that it could surpass PMR.
I still stand by my words however, I am going to add a little more to this.

I decided to chuck the PS5 onto the big TV and did some couch controller gaming, for me now, that's where this game is showing real improvement. I think the overall improvements since launch and into 2.0 for the gamepad combined with the physics and tyre model overhaul make this a solid option on controller and in my opinion, plays better this way than on a wheel right now. Even the LMDh actually seem to behave better on controller than with the wheel, the weird constant sliding doesn't seem to be there as it is with the wheel.

So, still a lot to do for it to be a must play, but if you're a controller player, there's definitely reason to pick it up now.

Having the best GT4 races since game debut. Stilling messing with the steering deadzone. Seems I have to adjust to circuit. Ran 20 at Imola and 10 at Sebring. Imola still had me lagging a bit with the steering play. I was much sharper at Sebring without correction.

So how is the perfornance on base ps5 now after 2.0 ? Still thinking about it. But I would prefer to get discount on full game with season pass.

Performance on base PS5 was never really that bad, it was smooth with occasional drops when it gets busy on screen with rain and night etc. It's much the same in 2.0, just with slightly sharper visuals and slightly better lighting.

Sounds great. I kinda don't like PC2 on controller.
With a lot of settings messed with, it went from completely unplayable to decent when I had it. Youtube videos of players adjusting settings helped a lot lol

I guess it still has maximum 16 ai cars grids?

Correct. Which is a shame for multi-class racing but certainly in career mode, there isn't any multi-class racing (that I have seen anyway) so it's not as big an issue as I thought it would be there but yeah, more would be nice.

I would be happy if the grid can grow to 20 or 24 cars. 32 on a small track sounds a bit crowded.

24 is the sweet spot, not too many cars and not too little. Works well in FM, although I think certain classes should allow as much as 32 cars on track.

I understand that big grids are important for some with 12 to 16 is more thanks enough for me personally. I don't why it would be important if the battle 12 to 20 laps for 25th place or 12th 🤷 As long the ai is décent the quantity of ai becomes less important

32+ should be at the big circuits like Spa, Nurburgring 24, La Sarthe, Silverstone, Mount Panorama , Kyalami, the upcoming Okayama, Sebring, Daytona, maybe even Monza.

Edit: Question - Why does each circuit show Grid slots over 16? Is that for online? Are they going to boost grids in the future?

Online, consoles can have up to 32 online, it's only the single player that's capped to 16.

getting used to the physics and start to having so much fun.

It s so good to have seasons on every track and see the nurburgring on winter or autumn and how it changes. I woukd love to see this feature in Gt8.

Coming from Gt7 i really appreciate the full customisation of the HUD.

Welcome to the world outside GT, these have both been staples of the Project Cars series since the first one.
