I have started up a career mode and I'm using the Formula Rookies. Had to spend about an hour testing and retesting so the FFB would actually feel right (but that's another point), and eventually made it out on track at one of the GB tracks (Snetterton I think). The car is great fun to drive, and I used up 20 minutes in the pre-race practice session learning the car and track and getting good consistent lap times.
So I eventually get into the race itself, and this is where my problem lies. It literally took me 15 or more restarts to actually make it through turn 1 without being shunted, spun, pushed off track or crashing into the guy in front after he slams the brakes on mid corner for no apparent reason.
You could accuse me of just being bad at the game but I promise you it is not the case. The occasions that I did make it past turn one (or even turn two) it was considerably better although there are some instances when you are close with the AI that they do some seriously nutty moves and screw you big time. The turn itself is a fast right hander so I don't know if it's just the AI not being that good on that sort of bend, and to add to that, these little cars will spin and practically snap in half with much more than a nudge so sure that does not help but it doesn't mean it's not a big problem. It was a maybe 10 minute race (9 laps) and it probably took me over half an hour to actually get to the finish, most of that time spent on the starting grid and going through the menus to restart the race each time.
I have the AI strength on maximum and I do like that they are actually a "fairly" decent challenge if you can actually avoid crashing with them, but they need some serious aggression management and some training on racing lines, as well as being aware that you actually exist on track. Or perhaps it's the fact that it's the formula rookie, the AI drivers are actually rookies...but I highly doubt the game is that clever.
Anyone else having these kind of problems?
