Prologue and rFactor... a convergence of sorts

First and foremost, the point of this thread is not to pit Prologue vs. rFactor... they're both very different and very good at what they do. What I'd like to point out is how I'm still (after months of play) very impressed by Prologue's physics on pro settings. I was reminded of this again this week when I downloaded a Corvette C6 mod for rFactor. The in-car view and overall feel of the car was extremely comfortable, and I give credit to Prologue and the many, many laps in the Corvette Z06 I've run to date. Prologue, while by no means perfect, holds up pretty darn well against a very highly rated mod on a well regarded PC sim (at least in my book :) ).

So, for those that have played Prologue, check out this clip and see if it seems eerily familiar. For those that don't have Prologue yet... there's plenty of vids of the Z06 on the web to compare to if you're interested. Keep in mind that the Z06 (Prologue car) is a beefed up version of the stock C6 (the rFactor mod Vette). I'm also running with no assists and stock tires in this clip.

Anyways, just thought I'd throw that out there for discussion. :) For anyone who also has rFactor, try the C6 mod out (it really is truly fantastic) and see if you feel the same way.

Heres GT5ps Z06 for comparison :dopey:
Hard really to judge too much from youtube videos but yeah the R-Factor version looks good especialy as its a MOD, did notice the camera position is further back in RF is that adjustable?

Yes in rFactor you can adjust your seat.. both look so good. :) Of course GT looks WAY WAY better, but the other one is MOD.. free :)

You could adjust your seat in test drive unlimited on the 360, it was a good feature, hope it's considered for GT5. That Z06 is a prety fast bit of kit, might have to have a play with that when GT5p hits my doormat

In a straight line. Its too tail happy around sweepers to be a good racer. Add a wing though...

Get your facts straight.

The Z06 is an incredible handling car.

The fastest time it has achieved at the Nurburgring is 7 min 42 secs

Here are some other fastest lap times for comparison:

7:28 Porsche Carrera GT
7:38 Nissan GT-R
7:40 Bugatti Veyron 16/4
7:41 Manthey Porsche GT3 M410
7:42 Porsche 997 GT3
7:42 Ford GT
7:42 Chevrolet Corvette C6 Z06
7:43 Lamborghini Murcielago
7:43 TechArt GTstreet
7:44 Pagani Zonda S
7:46 Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera
7:46 Porsche 996 GT2
7:47 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano

I noticed that, you almost spun at the exit to the straight before the fast left hander, do you have a wheel? I can tell by the snapback when you slide, thats what I find FF does.

Even though I will always love GT I must admit rFactor is an absolutely sensational sim. The base game I brought is 668mb,now after a month and a half, with all the mods and tracks my game file is now 23.5GB.And I must say the sounds of the cars in rfactor blow GTs sounds out of the water.

True dat.

Lol.

Look just jump in GT5P and drive it. It beats most cars in a straight line and get overtaken by them all again in the corners.

And posting times for the ring is nice, but how about something like tsukuba which does not rely on power output for times.

Seat adjustment (moving camera forward) is a MUST if using the cockpit view is to be anything more than a novelty. It sucks driving from the backseat.

The C6 mod for rFactor is one of the best mod developed for rFactor using carfactory and when played with the real feel FFB plug-in.

Once you've driven it, you will realized why GT5 is not a sim (yet).

You ask, for tsukuba, and you shall receive.

I'd say thats pretty decent on such a small track.

Whilst those times are impressive, I can't help but think about the gulf in power output between cars such as the Evo IX, NSX-R, Carrera 4 group and the ZO6; but then there's also a difference in weight...
Another point: what's the source? If those're BMI "Super Battle" lap times, then they're not really ideal for comparison.

That said, the time is still impressive and supports the reviews I've seen of the car, all suggesting that progress is finally being made on "Yank-Tank" handling :dopey:

Back On Topic: Looks promising for Prologue / GT5 proper, though I've not played rFactor in ages due to its infuriating lack of FF support for my wheel; even LFS supports it! It was a year ago now, but I don't remember being blown away by the physics either, but that may have been the fault of the vehicle itself rather than the code. Still, it was better than GT4's terrible tyre and aerodynamic models...

I think Seat Position is the best! I remeber In Rfactor, GTR2 i always have to make seat closer so i can see better behind the front window.

The problem with GT is you see far too much of the roof lining and too little of the interior...... i.e. you are too high up in your seat, you should be able to see the cars logo on every steering wheel in game but on most you see none.

Wow you mean it can keep up with cars that have the same weight and half the power? I guess it really is an awesome handling car...

Alright, now you're just pissing me off. what do I have to do to prove my point. thats why I posted ring times in the first place. I dont even like the Z06 very much. I was just trying to prove a point.

here's my better source, those other times were BMI "Super Battle" lap times, probably not the best for comparison sake.

It looks similar alright, although I don't like at all rfactor and ISI based games, the cars in there feel like they're floating rather than firmly riding on four wheels, or the dumpers are very soft somehow. If you look at real life driving in heavy tuned sports cars you will see they seem to be very brutal at handling, GT4 is more like that than Rfactor, so for me rfactor is a no way because it's boring after 2 laps already I just don't get the feedback to keep me interested forward. Yeah I'm a ISI despiser, very critical towards it I don't believe people love those games actually, they definitely see something I don't and I've played racing a lot of years now, my favourite racing game on PC is NFS: Porsche Unleashed and Live For Speed, although LFS is flawed too.
