I have been playing the GT series since GT1, however, I am still unsure on how to pronounce the title correctly. Is is Grahn Ter-is-moh, or Grahn Ter-ees-moh?

I think its pronounced Grahn Ter-is-moh, but I'm not sure.

Sorry if this is innapropriate.

Well, around here, it's, "Grann Terizmoe."

Not scientific, but it's self-explanitory. It all just depends where you're from.

I've always heard it as a short i, not a long e.

Most of us, though, pronounce it as Gee Tee Fore. :)

Grahn (with the same vowel sound but brief in length).

Too-rees-moh.

The R's should have an ever-so-slight roll to them. As luftrofl said, it's Italian, after all.

While I am definitely no expert I would have thought it would need to be Spanish to be pronounced Too-rees-moh while Italian would be Too-ris-moh

From http://italian.about.com/cs/pronunciation/ht/pronouncevowels.htm

"I - sounds like ea in tea or i in marine"

Spelling it "rees" also implies the correct pronunciation of the letter S in Turismo, which should sound like the S in "rose." :)

If you're going all-out Italian...

Gra-n Tyu-ree-z-moe.

My Italian colleague (who currently has my copy of the game) says 'Gran Too-reez-moh'..., whereas I say 'Gran Too-riz-moh'

I've heard it pronounced 'Gran Tre-miz-ee-oh' before though...

If you want to pronounce it like Kazunori Yamauchi probably does, it would go something like...

Gah-rah-nu Tu-riss-u-moh

I've always pronounced it "Gran-Tur-is-moh".

Amazingly, I've never heard it pronounced in any other way.

Kaz, from Porifoni Digitaru?

BTW, i will try to "englishify" my portuguese pronunciation:

Grahn Too-rees-moo

T = not like Two, but like Tent, Test, Total

When I speak to my missus i only pronounce it as "im gonna play the ps2".... since it's the only permanent resident of my playstation....

Italians would indeed stress on the penultimate syllable.
In french we pronounce almost like in italian but we stress on the last syllable.
Just my 0.02 €

I also let the missus know I'm going to play GT4 by saying I'm going to get on the Playstation... I do, however, pronounce "Playstation" in the most pig latin way possible. Sounds like "Play-tay-chung"

I was brought up to make a few phonetic distinctions others don't, but I don't make any distinction between the "T" in any of those words.

Now there is the question of whether you have a "y" sound before the first vowel sound (and whether that's a full "oo" or merely a schwa).

I.e., assuming you're using "oo", is it like tulip, or two lips? (Well, the way I pronounce "tulip" and "two lips", at least).

I.e like future and fusion, or like food?

Really? I thought you guys would just incoherently mumble it, and the spelling would include about a thousand silent consonants... :sly:

J/k, of course.

Silly Canuck, "tulips" and "two lips" are pronounced exactly the same! :sly: ;)

Since we use only our lips to pronounce vowels and never the back of the mouth, yeah, it must sound like mumbling to untrained ears. And silent consonants are, well... silent, so they won't affect pronunciation :)

I call it 'stupid game that rarely works on my PS2'.

Finking about it a bit, I realoize I pernounce it wif only free syllables, I do.

Gran Trizmoh!

Thanks, Ive always pronounced it Gran Too-riz-moe, but In the Tourist Trophy ad they pronounce it Too-rees-moe. I've also heard it pronounced liek thaty on a show called X-Play. I will continue to pronounce it as I have since '96 though.

I think I'll stick with

Gee Tee Fore

But i think i pronounce it as Gran Toh-riz-moe

I am another person who has owned/played the Gran Turismo series since the first one, heck GT1 was the first game I got for my old gray PlayStation.
I too use the pronunciation with the "iz."

However, my Mac says "Gran Tour Ease Moh" so I could be wrong...
