First, some background.

There is some form of virus/worm currently doing the rounds. It's characterised by a 24-34k attachment. I get roughly 10-15 copies a day in my Yahoo! inbox and almost all are deleted on sight. If any come bearing an e-mail domain I've dealt with in the past - such as one I got from a biochemical company the other day - I'll e-mail the company informing them that they MAY have the virus. I even got one the other day from myself - the perpetrator was obviously ghosting my e-mail address.

So let's bear this in mind as we scroll forward to the present day. I get this e-mail in my inbox, titled "Re: question" - which I'll usually read as my site generates a steady stream of e-mails. Domains have been screened to protect the ignorant:

A little digging shows that he "runs" a website devoted to America's nightclub scene, and his forum has been active for all of about 2 days (or he's really unpopular).

I sent this as a reply:

"That was good of you. At least the FBI check the headers of e-mails, which you clearly don't.

Yahoo! and other e-mail providers seem to be having trouble recently with people ghosting their user's e-mail addresses - I even received an e-mail purporting to be from myself... They tend to have 24-34k attachments, which I delete on sight.

I have never heard of you or your site. I have an absolute zero interest in night clubs. If you wish to send beligerent e-mails, please check your facts first - headers are so terribly useful. I wish you and your site/business well, but I suspect with reactionaries such as you representing it, it won't.

As a further aside, even if I WERE the originator of that e-mail/virus, which I wasn't, I am outside the FBI's jurisdiction as I am not a US citizen. Which would make my interest in an American night club site even less than it already wasn't.

As for contacting your site again, I didn't in the first place as you probably have gathered by now, so "again" is a moot point.

Enjoy life - but research it first, for pity's sakes.

I thought I was rather restrained.

I'm waiting for a response - if none is forthcoming, I won't be mean and evil. If you want to go visit his forum, PM me for the URL - makes you yearn for the grammar skills of darklegion_ca to return, it really does.

Dude, that is awesome. I only wish I could have that kind of wit in the face of shear stupidity...

The sad part is that all that wit will probably fly right over his head. I'll even bet that he'll totally misinterpret...

As a further aside, even if I WERE the originator of that e-mail/virus, which I wasn't, I am outside the FBI's jurisdiction as I am not a US citizen.
... and think that that means you're admitting to it.

Idiots so suck.

So he accuses you of sending a virus infected email, then the smart guy decides to send it to the FBI? like the FBI is going ot open a virus infected email instead of trashing it like all the rest
I gotta see this guys site

Careful there Famine.

You are aware that you fall under the jurisdiction of the British FBI, whose main operative in this area is James' granny! Good job you've not got a wheel or they'd be round cutting the wires in it!

Meh, it's ridiculous. Anyone with half a brain knows that all e-mail viruses are spoofing the sender details. They go through the infected system's address book and make up addresses, so someperson1@domainA.com and someperson2@domainB.com becomes someperson1@DomainB.com.

Really annoys those of us who have catch-all e-mail addresses set up. I quite often get emails addressed to "fred@giles-guthrie.com". I don't have a user called Fred.

The big spammy that I'm getting at the moment is "DRIVE TRAFFIC TO YOUR SITE WITH A PROFESSIONAL FLASH LOGO".

I think they're using the word "FLASH" as in the trade name of Macromedia Flash. Rather than saying that their logos are ostentatious.

I regularly get emails like that to one of my addresses, which is simply a pass-through box and cannot generate any outgoing mail at all.

I have to say that the guy's website is the most poorly designed website I have ever looked at. I mean, I'm going to puke just looking at it because of the neon colors and graphics on the black background. It makes me nauseous(sp?). :yuck:

Did you keep a copy of the email? I would be interested to see the message header information....

Gosh no. I wouldn't want to condone that either.
