I don't think the cover makes a difference, not in the internet age with a 12+ yr old series on it's fifth official installment, not in the age of instant reviews, youtube gameplay and screenshots galore.

I think it would just add a touch of class, or even some abstract car art, i liked the GTPSP cover all you see is the lines of the ZR1.

PAL GT3 cover didn't have a car on it.

True, they don't need to. But we all know they will.
The smart money says it will be the sls, but i still hope
it will be the 458, it is just a better fit.
 
Well really guys, all of those cases have had a part of a car on them.
GT1 Pal version is a a shot of a performance car tyre.
GT2 Pal version looks like the Cam cover of an inline 4?:odd:
GT3 Pal version has a headlight.
GT3 NTSC version is a shot of the back spoiler and boot with a touch of tail light.
GT4 Pal was a shot of the Ford GT race car featured in the game and intro video.
etc etc etc.
I missed a few cover's but you get the picture.:D
But honestly, I don't really mind what they put on the front cover, so long as it represents the GT series well for what the GT series is; a real, prestigous driving simulator. Go PD!

Sexy Aston Martin. I just cannot stand that their car designs vary so little. I look at the Corvette and say "wow, now that has matured and adapted to the times."

Watch it will be the SLS, tell me one time that the car that was hyped by polyphony wasnt the cover car for the next game ;), Ford GT - GT4, Nissan GTR - 5 Prologue Corvette GT PSP and now attention to the SLS means it will be on the cover

Actually, its not the only car being hyped. There is also the Ferrari 458 and the Toyota FT-86. It could be either of those two as well.

That's right. I'm thinking more along the lines of "no car whatsoever, only a track". That would definitely show balls, even more if the cover didn't have anything to do with racing, and showed some trees of Nürburgring or something.


Anyways, regardless of what people think, I believe the SLS will indeed be the cover car. I would rather have the original 300SL on the cover. Perhaps we will get both on the cover?

Now that would be a really awesome cover! Hell of a great idea and I wish Kaz was watching.
The original 300SL was in GT4 and it was one of my favorite cars to cruise Nurburgring in.

The One-77 does have more variation than say the Rapide.(Which still looks incredible)

Although I do think it would make for an awesome cover if done properly, I don't think it's a great idea. Many members must have thought about it before me. I'm thinking it would be nice to see both cars headlights, side to side, on the Nürburgring, with the cover split in half, with one side "old" and the other side "new", with the 300SL on the old side and the SLS on the new side, obviously. I don't think Kaz would go so far for a cover, though.

I like your idea's Codename L, It would be nice to possibly bring in some history reflections to Gran Turismo.
The fact that the Automotive industry is currently undergoing major changes and adaptions to the 'Green age', it would be great to have a 'before and now' sort of effect on the front cover of GT5.

+1 Great concepts Codename!

Speaking of the green age and then and now, ironically the 300SL was the first car with direct injection making it a lot more efficient and those days when carburetors were somewhat the world standard, not to mention it was the fastest production vehicle available then.

The cars that have made it on the GT covers have always struck a nerve, illustrating the greatest achievement of the automobile industry in that time.

Not really, the Ford GT on GT4 wasn't really an advancement in any ways, neither is the ZR1 that is on GTPSP's cover(although both are great cars). Really the only car that has been on a GT cover and is an example of a major achievment is the GTR and that's not even on a full game.

We can't really tell if the SLS is an automotive achievement as we know little about it(I guess that is something it has in common with GT5).

Yes apparently, thats what we've been discussing for the past two previous pages. If you've read any of the previous post the 300SL and the SLS being printed on the cover together was another members conceptual idea that we found interesting, not a presumption. What you've stated has already been said.

I disagree the GT cover cars being the greatest achievement in the auto industry of their time though.
Thats a bit far from the truth, some of the most innovative and/or original yes but, greatest achievers absolutely not.

Historically, GT40's lineage is very exciting and the re-release of this super car definitely sparked a lot of excitement in the car industry.

Regarding the ZR1, it beat the GTR around the N'ring. Period. If you don't think that is by any means any sort of achievement, then whatever. I look at the price point, the power, the historical heritage, and how that car is so defining these past few years because it was such a large business risk for the troubled GM to undertake. I'm definitely excited for the ZR1, as much excitement as I had for the GTR when it beat all those Porsche's time on the N'ring.

Well the GT did spark excitement that is about all it did. It has yet to be as successful of a car as the GT40 in the world of moors ports.

Also, if the ZR1 didn't beat the GTR I would be seriously worried about GM since the ZR1 has more power and is rear-wheel drive. Not to mention most people (including me) don't care about Nurburgring lap times since they are normally skewed.
 
There's a good chance I'm ignorant here, but... the ZR-1 did beat the Pagani Zonda F Clubsport, which has basically the same power, but weights 1230kg as opposed to the ZR-1's 1515kg, and is also MR. And the GT-R beat it too. If the GT-R could beat it with higher weight and less power, then I certainly see it as an achievement for the Corvette to beat it. Besides, the GT-R is a japanese car, and it's supposed to be a technological achievement of some sort.

Maybe my logic is flawed, though.

It's tough to say what will be exciting around the time the car is chosen. The SLS isn't really exciting in the motor world right now, but I'm sure he feels pressure from MB to do it.

But I think honestly the Ferrari should take the cover. New to the series and I think the 458 is going to be quite a hit.
 
It certainly will be the SLS and I'd rather be this one than any ferrari, lambo or any other supersportscar, because the SLS is not just about performance and styling, is like the GTR, a new concept in terms of sport driving because of the low center of gravity, the gorgeous AMG 6.3L AMG V8 front-center mounted and the almost all aluminum composition making it a unique car. When the GTR was launched, it established new parameters for a supersportscar, because it accelerates faster than an F430 scuderia and costs a quarter of it, it's an everyday supercar, and mybe the SLS AMG is the new parameter of the sporty feeling when you drive a car, he is not just a car for making the manufacturer proud of it's numbers, he is a new driving experience, and this is what Kaz expect from the game....
