Alfa has given the green light today to put the coach-built Disco Volante into limited production. It's an 8C underneath and here is the finished article.

Appears to use Ferrari F430 headlights and I just remembered this is the name of the boat in the Bond film Thunderball :sly:

Interesting looking Alfa... I'm not sure if I like it or hate it... but it is a sure head turner...

Is there a specified number? Maybe I can snag one or two. :sly:

Ferrari F430 headlights

Nope. 599 headlights, different shape from F430 ones.

They didn't specify an exact number but I would think limited production would be around 10 or so. They did say people can call Alfa Romeo's Milan office to enquire :sly:

Yeah 599.

There's a car people will desire but never acquire in years to come. Much nicer than a One-77 or a Veyron, although I'm a bit unsure about the rear end. Cool it's being sold.

I'll be the first one to call this a completely failed attempt at yet another modern-classic design.

It's just a complete mess of shapes, edges and curves. The 8C was stunning, the Giulietta is the probably the prettiest affordable car and then they make this. Alfa Romeo's have set the bar for beautiful designs, I'll give them that, but this just looks like they felt they absolutely had to make something new and then took existing stuff and glued it all onto one chassis.

Doesn't work for me. The only things I really, really, really like is the overhead panoramic roof and the interior. The front is just a complete failure, especially the square fenders. And while the rear doesn't look all that bad from a face-on rear view, it's just hideous from a side-view.

I feel they have taken a car which looked every bit as much as it costs (8C) and in a way not made it any less beautiful but made it look cheaper. It looks like a mid range sports car which is funny because there's a super car underneath.

kikie
luckily this is just a prototype.

The last pics I posted are of the production model, compare them to the original concept and you will see the slight differences.

Green and gold is nice but seems very Lotus to me...
Nice car. Hopefully more of these sort of projects happen in the near future!

Alpha Male Flying Saucer, this is why the name is in Italian.

This car looks so much better in green and gold than in red.

I think I could spend hours and hours in that interior.

I've changed my mind, I like this car ....... a lot.

The green car could stand to lose the red trim from the grille, but otherwise that looks good. Still prefer the red though.

Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera Disco Volante 2012 concept have surfaced online.Set to debut in Geneva, the model celebrates the 60th anniversary of the 1952 Alfa Romeo Disco Volante. Touring has reinterpreted the fender skirting, too, revealing the rear wheels entirely and creating a hard, straight cut above the fronts; the character line that forms to top of the front wheel opening is a traditional Alfa cue, and this treatment brings to mind the Pininfarina-designed Alfa GTV/Spider of the late 1990s/early 2000s.

Tree'd by a few seconds.

:ouch:

I think the grille should be green as well. It makes the car look weird when it's red-orange.
