Here are some cooling tips to be able to keep your PStwo on for long periods of time. I've used these and my PStwo was on for 3 days straight with GT4 and 5 days straight for GTA: San Andreas.
  • Keep the PStwo off of the carpet whenever possible. Keep it on a hard surface if possible.
  • Keep the PStwo exposed to the open air. Try not to cram it into an empty space as wide as a few DVDs on top of your DVD player.
  • Keep things off of the PStwo
  • Keep off the TV, since the TV gets very hot.
  • If you live in a warmer area, keep as close as possible to an AC vent or point a fan at it.
  • For extra cooling, elevate the PStwo so the underbelly is exposed to the air. I put mine on top of two DVD boxes, so there is room underneath the PStwo between the two boxes. This really helped drop the temperature of the unit.

Those are my tips. Feel free to post any of yours.

Most of those are just common sense...

yes, well you'd be surprised how much difficulty may people have with common sense...

My cooling technique is my EBGames product replacement plan... pay the $15 for a 1 year warranty, and you could run over your PS2 with a truck and they'll give you a new one.

I don't know how people have issues with theirs. Mine has never gotten hot.. just luke warm. Also.. Mines on 24/7.

if you are talking about the little one, then buy the stand for it or something and stand it up and blow a fan on it if it has severe problems... but the other things sound like great ideas too

I just use the vertical stand. I've only had the game freeze on me twice so far.

got a silver edition ps2, its under an xbox, next to a hot running shuttle computer, in the corner of the room on the carpet with the room at a nice warm temperature and im a smoker... 0 problems ever.... weird how some peoples seem to die if you so much as look at them funny

The problem with common sense is that...is not common enough. :)

yeah i try to use all of those but i find that a pack of frozen peas in front of the ps2 works fine for meeeese :sly:

Thats the old one. It has a fan. The slim one is what this was about. It has no fan.

The best way is to have a additional cooling fan for your PS2, I accidently found this on Ebay, I bought one and it works great for me . Here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...ssPageName=WDVW
Again, that's for the PS2, not the PStwo. There's a difference.

Onlly twice?! One is two many. WHat if that happened on hour 22 of the Nurburgring enduro?

The slim PS2 does have a fan. If you put your hand behind the unit with it on you will feel hot air coming out of it (albeit very slowly). It has a very quiet, internal fan. But it does have a fan.

venom... just to make absolutely sure you know... that cooler WILL NOT work on the slim PS2. :)

Mine's in the conservatory. It's always very cold out there in the winter so I shouldn't have heating problems.

In the summer though the room is VERY HOT. I will have to move it.

I just traded in my old ps2 and got the slimline, only did it as the old un was starting to play up, i.e not autostarting and the odd disc read error. Took it to the gameshop, he tested it by switching it on but didnt actually boot anything up .. hahaha... so i got a new slimline by paying the extra.

TBH it does get warmer than the old un, but saying that its nothing that bad at all, and how hot do the compenents get in the old un ? you wont know really cos theres loadsa empty space in that shell..

On the subject of dust getting in the vents, i have read the slim ps2 handbook and it states "You should use a vacuum hoover to suck any collected dust from the vents at the rear of the console". We vacuum the flat every other day and the ps2 gets a suck too.

...not sure how much I like the idea of vacuuming the vents, but if the fan is buried deep enough inside the PS2 it shouldn't matter... and Sony can't very well void your warranty for following the manual's instructions, soooo.... vacuum away. :D

It says, vauum the console, not the flat! ;)

I have the new one, and just use a vertical stand, and it just gets warm
Never had any issue...

i always have mine out in the open and on hard cool surface thats a decent hight of the ground, and a fan is nearly always on it or near it.

I stand the feet of my slimline on a couple of plastic cases that ballpoint pens came in. And that on a hard surface so there is a half inch gap between the PS2 and the surface. Gives plenty of scope for cooling.

Yeah, I elevate my ps2 slim by using folded paper.

I only run it max 24 hours and then stop.

I use the lovely vertical stand, does the job fine, and allows the PS2 to be positioned out of the way of the glaring sun (England sometimes has that). Sounds like alot of trouble to go to constructing the console equivilent of the fourth bridge to put the PStwo on to avoid over-heating.

Just got my SCPH-70012 yesterday and first thing I did I raised it of the table. Did the same with my external HD and noticed a big difference in cooling on the wood desk the heat from the HD and PS2 helped warming it up like a stove but raised a half inch of the wood help kept it cooler much longer than before.

Ive cut 4 disposable cups in half and placed them on the corners, I might find some better idea in the near future but for now this works fine.

I've had my PStwo on for about a week straight with GT4 loaded and not once has it froze up on me EVER :D But its on my DVD player with two pencils under it

My PSTwo seems to get warm, but I think that's normal.

P.S. Mine sits on top of the GameCube.
