Argh!! You did the extremely nasty 4:3 to 16:9 aspect ratio stretch for GT1.
Diminishing returns can also very much apply to the detail that's lost in the brutal Youtube compression. I think the lighting in GT4 is the big jump, and that's something that still shows up quite well despite the Youtube smudge factor. Just be different though, I vote for PSnone to PSone.

Bit unfair the last bit comparing a game at the end of a generation to a game that is done before Next gen is rolled out,biggest leap will probably be the PS4 in my opinion just by the amount of cars,track side atmosphere lighting etc .

I highly doubt that. There's a sort of deminishing return on processing power when it comes to graphics. We're at a point where even relatively small increases in visual quality require a decent bump in hardware. As such, I'd say that the leaps made with every generation are only going to get smaller.
Take resolution, for example. Going von SD to HD is a pretty big step forward. From 720p to 1080p, that's noticible, but less impressive. From 1080p to 4k, that's a huge amount of additional processing power you'd need, but the difference isn't all that drastic to the human eye... I guess it's similar to making a fast car. Upping the horsepower to get to 200mph instead of 120mph is kind of easy. To get to 250mph, however, that's tough.

Yeah I see your point and agree with it,Biggest difference for me is the number of polygons/particles etc that the next generation consoles are/will be able to handle compared to the previous ones but agreed that graphically the leap for a single modeled character or object (cars) isn't the biggest.
It's a bit of a hard question to answer because the trained gamer eye will notice the small details but to the casual non gamer I doubt he'd see much of a difference.

The difference will be pretty big once you compare environments at detail. Place a camera beside the track in GT6 and then do the same in Driveclub and you'll see a huge difference. Driveclubs environments have more detail than most current RPGs like Skyrim or The Witcher etc. The lighting differences are also huge. Overall, the difference will be more noticable in action games though, at least at the beginning of this gen. InFamous looks MUCH better than anything on PS3 for example.

If anything this video does is make me realize how much I miss playing GT2. And the time when GT3 was the hottest thing in gaming. Man, good times! GT2 is by a distance that will never be closed the best racing game I have ever played.

And that wasn't the case when going from PS1 to PS2? I mean, thinking about games like Metal Gear Solid... Snake got such nice details like, dunno, eyes once the franchise moved to the PS2
Not saying the jump from PS1 to PS2 wasn't immense, but I think all the generations have big differences. I played GTA San Andreas not long ago and GTAV made me realize again how big the difference between PS2 and PS3 is (and I played the far superior PC version of San Andreas). I think the difference between PS3 and PS4 will be similar, not in the assets like 3D models, but in stuff like IQ and overall details. Things like lighting etc. are also getting a huge boost.
