Hi all and a very Merry Christmas :) Or what's left of it 👍

I came across some Enthusia Screenshots at Gamespot and saw this amazing (at least for me ) pic of the FC.....and thought if it would be possible to get this quality picture from a PS2 using a capture card.......

If yes, which would be better, S-Video or the normal video cable (the small yellow one)

Thanx a lot and happy holidays 👍

Oh, almost forgot the pic :indiff:

S-VHS is much better than Composite (the yellow plug). However, it will be hard to get this quality out of it.

Cheers,

You'd really have to get a high quality card to get that kind of quality.

That was clear from the beginning (thanx for the reminder, anyhow 👍 ) but I was asking if it's possible to get that quality from the ps2 or is it just the company running the game on another platform to make it look better..... 💡

EDIT: Are de-interlacter programs like Dscaler any good ?? Anyone with capture card experience??

The quality is amazing, the problem is the horrible graphics of Enthusia. They can't even make the HUD smooth?

Every other screen of Enthusia has had a smooth HUD. This picture seems enlarged to me. PS2 only runs at 640x480 right?

Yes, the SVideo output is better than the composite one.
But even with the best capture card you'll never get that quality picture, because that quality can only be obtained directly from a screenshot taken on the game producer development system.
These system have a VGA output , that's the reason why the screenshots you see in the mags and on the back of the games boxes will always be better than what we have on our TV or capture card.
If Sony was not treating the PS2 owners like idiots, they would provide a direct VGA output on their console so we could connect it directly to our computer monitor.
I use an ATI Radeon TV capture card , the resolution is better than on a TV, but the picture is a little "washed".

You mean it's not that coloured ??

What about Dscaler ? Does it work properly? Is the difference that big when using it ?

Thanx loads

PS: So theoretically the best bet for me now is to buy a PS2 S-Video cable and a Capture card with s-video IN for the best possible picture (among users :) ), am I right?

Also bear in mind that these images aren't taken through a capture card. At this point in development, all the screenshots are coming from the development version, which still resides on the workstations, not in a PS2. These are direct screengrabs, no different from pushing "Print Screen" on your keyboard. This one also appears to be uprezzed.. taken from 720x480 up to 1024x768. Your capture card will be locked at 720x480 (or some semblance thereof, depending on how your specific card deals with the incoming NTSC signal). So in the end, no, it won't look this good.

These games are meant to be played on a normal television.. not on a computer monitor, and truthfully, not even an HDTV.. I'd have thought you folks would have figured that out by now.

Why would you want to, anyway? Hm.. 17" monitor on a computer desk, and an office chair... or 27" TV with 5.1 surround sound, and a nice comfy couch? Gee, lemme think....

Well, I only got a 51 cm TV with a stereo sound system next to it.....the problem is that allthough we have a nice 120cm projection-TV in the living room, these 2 things are still my parents's.

Also I'd like the PS2 to be like a part of the Pc, with sound comming through my headphones (I got no 5.1 sorry  ) and with a possibility to record some of the driving 👍

That's why......

PS: Another reason: My DFP is 10 times more stable on my PC desk than on my PS2 stand (one old pc-desk, on which rest: 51 cm TV, stereo sound system with 2 speakers, PS2, games, DFP, a 220V multuplier......it's VERY full and congested:lol: )

PS2: Make that an 18'' TFT which doesn't hurt your eyes when you look at it 👍

Yes, it's less coloured than with the TV but has a better resolution so it's a tradeoff,But I prefer taht than using my TV.

You ar right, the best solution would be to get an Svideo cable for your PS2 and a TV capture card. But then it's just my opinion.

Dscaler is the best program for windows, I get good results with it. but I prefer to use the Linux operating system ( Mandrake 10.1 ) and the very good application program named Tvtime. It gives results at least as good as with Dscaler.
