Welcome to GTPlanet. :)
Well I do not own a steering wheel so I couldnt tell you. But im pretty attached to my Analog Controller.

The reason Im asking is because Im planning on buying a steering wheel to (hopefully) boost the experience.

I own a steering wheel form my old playstation. I had some terrible problems with this wheel, because i could not calibrate it, so that i would get a decent driving expeirience in the games I tried to play. I bought my playstation 2 (GT3 pack) a couple of weeks ago, and a friend wanted to buy my old playstation, and he was desperate to get the steering wheel with. I decided to try it with GT3 before I sold it to him.

 And surprise this was the ultimate driving expirience. I was hooked right away. I had tried GT2 and GT1 with the same steering wheel and I was so disappointed. .

So when I play GT3 now I use my steering wheel. But sometimes I have to return to my trusty old ps2 controller. Because you get really tired after some hours of playing intensely with a steering wheel. So I need to cool down using the controller.

By the way the driveing expirience with the steering wheel can be so real that you confuse real life and the game. A friend tried the game with the wheel, and told me that he could not get the hang of it because he searched for the clutch.... And yesterday I was playing the game, and went for cigarettes in my car. (I live on the Faroe Islands and we have some really narrow roads up here) I could not get myself to slow down I drove like a maniac, I almost pushed several other cars (u can do this in the game without getting hurt) when I was overtaking them.... :burnout:

So I would deffinetly advise you to buy a steering wheel...

I am addictid to alot of things, but certanly not GT3. I am only driving in the beginner league, and I only play once or twice a week.

I was only trying to state the point, that it is a tatally different expirience when you drive with a steering wheel. And off course I can differentiate between real driving and GT3, but the game gives you a really good driving expirience with a steering wheel, and you can compare this with driving in real life. I was merely trying to state the point (by being a bit ironic) that by playing the game with a steering wheel, you get the most out of the game.

oh well dumb me. i thought you ment you actually reached for some cigarettes when racing like you would in your car. i can understand how a steering wheel can be better, but im sticking with my analog controllers. i dont have enough $$$$ to get one.:(

perhaps we could steal some steering wheels? or build a own one? :)

either way, I tried the steering wheel yesterday and Im sticking with my analog controller. I think Im so used to use the controller that the steering wheel just "confused" me.

I do have a drivning licence IRL. But reality beats fiction...

;)

Depends on the realism you want.

I've been running a wheel since 1997 and I won't ever go back. You don't drive your car with a joystick!!!

Perhaps in the future you wont need a steering wheel at all;)
But I miss the clutch for the steering wheels, it aint the same w/o it. Perhaps if you are used to drive an automatic.

I ran karts many years ago so racing while using the left foot to brake is fairly intuitive (and why I don't drive an automatic car!), I personally prefer it because the gap between coming off the gas and getting on the brake is reduced.

I use the steering wheel and I feel the control is much much better and realistic especially for feathering the gas or toggleing gas and break. Once you get used to the steering I'd say the wheel is much more intuitive and natural.
