xbox lol haha
hi guys
i saw the "ps1 games on PS3" thread and i thought why sony didnt make ps2 games for the ps3 ?

can anyone help me ?
GT4 on PS3 would be very cool (i know on some PS3 s you can play ps1/2 games but not on all

Most PS3's dont have the capability to run the ps2 games and the amount of people that would download them wouldnt be very high. This would be due to the large download size, some games could be several gig and most people have a download cap on their internet.

I agree. Most people will have bought the recent PS3's that dont have backwards compatibility, and PS2 games on PSN would be a great idea. The only limit should be the size of your HDD.

The Backwards compatibility isn't the problem, as if Sony did release PS2 games on the PSN store, they would release a firmware update that emulated them. They could add a few different games at a time, and update the firmware as need be for each new batch. Of course, the PS2 emulation would be built into the PS3 firmware, so any games that appear on the store, should be playable if you have the disc copy without the need of re-purchasing the game.

It comes down to Sony whether they see the value in doing so or not. I imagine they will get round to it eventually, but they would need to make a much better effort than what they have with the PSone titles. Game size wouldn't be too much of a problem, most games on PS2 averaged around 2gb in size if I remember correctly, and I'd say if your downloading more than one PS2 game per month, then your probably able to pay for a larger download cap.

Would like to see it happen, but I would also like to see more PSone games turn up on the store every week too. It has been rumored for a while now, E3 perhaps? I'm not holding my breath, but it would be a nice surprise.

There was a big fuss over this when a while back this infamous development screenshot surfaced showing PS2 titles available on PSN.

It was quickly put down to a marketing / mock up blunder just to showcase the revamp of the PSN store. But this issue has always been cropping up.

Compatibilty would not be an issue even on consoles without hardware or software based emulation because these games would be recoded as PS3 titles. Take for example the God of War collection on PS3, those are PS2 games re-coded and burned to a Blu Ray, its like playing a PS3 game just using less processing power.

The bigger issue would obviously be the size of the downloads because 7GB is slightly too much with the way the internet is at the moment with DL caps etc.

I would think that Sony would rather release them as retail boxed PS3 complations rather than PSN titles. Some good ones I can think of would be all the PS2 GTA's, The MGS's, Gran Turismo's, Ridge Racers and any other platinum / greatest hits titles.

Robin.

imagine in the future ps3 classics on ps5

but we will all be to busy interviewing kaz and asking him for a release date

Now i think about it, it wouldnt be good business sense at the moment for sony to put PS2 games on the PSN network. As i said before, a lot of people will own the backwards compatible 60GB ps3, so they can still play old games, and since you can still buy many PS2 classics in the shops for less than a tenner - why bother? Those who dont have backwards compatibility will probably still own their old PS1/PS2's to play games they simply dont want to part with. It's when PS2 games are no longer available in the shops(as is the situation with PS1 games now) - that's when Sony should start thinking about PS2 games on PSN. But can you imagine how the GTA's would look and play on the PS3 when the data isnt constantly streamed from the CD? Smoother and glitch-free, for a start - i went through 2 PS2's because of the GTA games alone!

When the PS2 stops selling expect ps2 games on demand much like Xbox's. I doubt they would ignore their entire PS2 legacy post ps2. But theoretically you can fit many PS2 games on one Blu ray disc.
