ps2 games on ps3

apparently some ps3's are capable of playing ps2 games, but not mine.

question is, is there a downloadable patch or something where i can play ps2 games on my ps3?

No.

Long story short, the early PS3's had hardware chips in them to play PS2 games. They were removed in later models.

Sony filed for a patent though to use the PS3 processor to replicate what these chips did. So PS2's without the chip may one day get to play PS2 games.

Update 3.0 is HEAVILY rumoured to have ps2 software emulator included, this is due to coincide with the PS3 slims apearance. Most news sites are reporting this and the logic is sound behind it, but as yet until an official anouncement this is speculation.
