Okay, so I wandered down and got myself a PS2 network adapter (shame there's no games, other than the one supplied - and we'll come to that). Traded a couple of old games in on it, so it was pretty cheap...

Anyhoo, got home, hooked it up, and had two little hitches - one with the DNS addresses (easily fixed), and the second - after the little network test the PS2 runs came out fine, no connection to Central Station (where you register). Called the support line, and they suggested deleting the initial file and setting it all up again, and it should all hook up - which it did! Pretty easy process, and I'm pretty hopeless on these things.

So - fire up Hardware Online Arena, and it has to be said, this is dirty big fun online. The game is pretty simple, looks reasonable and moves very quickly - I've not seen much lag - justifying the broadband only decision - and other player animation is solid. Good one to include with the network package.

So - if you're in Australia and got a broadband connection, I'd really recommend it. It's pretty cheap (about two thirds the price of a new release game) and you get a pretty solid game with it - and the promise of more to come.

I have a 512/128 with ihug...might I ask who you are with, what/if any lag you have experience and what speed your connection is, and does it support every single broadband ISP? I want to know before I go out and buy one...:)

Yeah I'm going to have to say I have no idea what you're talking about. Is this somehow different from the broadband adaptor we have in the States?

No, it's the same thing, just in Australia.

Stupid me, I can only buy it next week...On the other hand, I can't wait to try out SSX 3 online...

ey guys , i got a network adapter and its kinda ****ed up , because yea , i cant play online games at all , its like it always say DNAS ERROR , is it because i got a MOD CHIP in my PS2 or what ?

Yeah, that's probably it - I think the DNAS is to prevent cheating. I had no problems hooking in at all - I had to make one phone call, during which I was basically told to 'try again', and it worked fine.

i got a (DNAS -402 ERROR) , your rite , it is the mod chip i put in my ps2 , im trying 2 take it out but its taking me a long time 2 do.....:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

any suggestions anybody

To deactivate your chip    Load game. Hold reset for 2-3 seconds until it turns off. Let go. Hold Down again for 5-6 secs or until the starting screen (cubes) apears. May need to be done a couple of times to work. But if you dont have a deacdivatable chip. SUCK!

Help Dude

DNAS stands for Dynamic Network Authentication System. It is Sony's proprietary authentification system for preventing cheaing, and pirated copies used online. It basically detects mod-chips, and verify region of the game with region of your console.

Basically, to play online, you need to disable (turn off) you chipset.

I also got myself a ps2 network adaptor. I installed it and placed the cdrom in the ps2.

Al things swell, but during the configuration I encounter some weird problemen. At the moment I have to select the country I am living in I can't make a selection (with arrow buttons) because the playstation freezes up...

The strange thing is when I selected the pre-selected country (Australia) it goes to the next selection screen. But the same problem occurs there...I can select the pre-selected option but when I want to make an other selection with the arrow buttons the playstion freeze up.

I have a modchip (PS2 Ripper 2 Deluxe Gold). I can disable this one, but it makes no deference.

Could this be a broken network adaptor/software or is it the modchips wich still acting up when disabled?

Hi guys,

Would you like to play on European servers? It is very simple to redirect communication.

Please read carefully these steps and enjoy playing with Germans, Dutches and UK people of course :D.

1. Australian version of Hardware Online Arena sends two queries to DNS server during initialization of network. Game asks for hosts "gate1.eu.dnas.playstation.org" and "hw2003-prod-muis.rt.au.playstation.com".

2. EU version sends 1st query for the same host but 2nd is diffrent. It is "hardware-master-muis.online.scee.com".

3. So, idea of redirection comes from simple shifting of IP address ditto hosts. But it can be done only by local instalation of DNS server.

4. Install some DNS server on PC (e.g. http://www.jhsoft.com). Make sure that PC can communicate with internet.

5. Add two records type A to this DNS:
217.18.19.42 hw2003-prod-muis.rt.au.playstation.com
217.18.19.42 prbs22.rt.au.playstation.com

IP addresses come from UE ver. Host names come form AU ver.

6. Make new configuration of NA (Network Adaptor) on PS2. "IP Address Setup" make the same as usually (auto). But "DNS Server Address Setup" make manual: specify IP address of PC where is installed DNS server.

7. That's all. After succesfull DNAS Authentication you should see two EU servers. 1st one is for registered users in Central Station. And 2nd, more popular, is a public server for all.

See you on the Area 51.
