PS2 + Projection TV

I want to buy a 52 or greater projection TV.  Will playing the PS2 cause screen burn? Because for me there is no point to buying a large TV unless I can play the PS2 on it!!!

I have a new 55 projection TV I bought myself last Christmas but have only played my PS2 on it a few times because of the fear of screen burn.  I do not want to risk testing to see how much/ long I can play on it and use the my 40 to play on... the sharpness is better than a projection but you could solve all this by buying a HDTV

I will have to do some investigation before I make the plunge. HDTV is one option I will really have to check out.

Hi, to answer your question.  It will not cause screen burn unless u leave the PS2 on for hours and hours on the same screen....example, if u left the game on in the game menu for a couple hours then it would screen burn your tv....Kinda like how the old polepostion at the arcades always used to have gameover burned into the screen.  If u are playing the game and the images on the game keep changing then there is no worry!  Just don't leave it on one image for hours and u will be allset!  Nothing beats playing on a big screen!

Yeah, whitester is right.  But, if an endurance race takes you several hours, then it might be a problem with some of the guages or something.

can you disable the gauges?  That would be an option for that if you are worried.  cause by the time you are doing the endurance races you shouldn't even need the HUD.  Just a thought

I had a post about HDTV can you get one of those babies over 52? That may be the ticket.

I would love to play on a BIG screen.

Modern Projection TVs don't have the same problems with burn in that older ones did.  If you are gonna drop like $1000 - $2000 on a TV, get a widescreen HD.  It's AWESOME for PS2.  If you have component in on a widescreen tv > 40' you are straight chillin.  Your picture for most PS2 games will be larger than on a 50 normal ratio TV.  The new toshiba widescreens are bad-ass

This is my TV and I love it but if were going to buy one now I would defn. go with HDTV even though it is at least double the price.....

well.i have a 52 project tv..i had been playing my ps2 on it for awhile.......that is before i got GT3
if u occasionally play ur ps2 on the big screen then it should be alrite...if ur still worry..try setting the color contrast etc to the lowest visible/possible..

i had stopped using my projection tv to play games by the way..the risk is just too high.hehe
so u should just use a normal tv to play games

Girls TVs try this for a GT3 setup 3.5metre screen force feedback wheel pioneer body sonic chair and some big ass speakers. Total immersion, the hours ive wasted !!!!

Since we are on the subject of televisions I thought I would ask someone what setting is best to have the television on when playing GT3.  I have a Sony Wega 36 XBR series and I have narrowed it down to vivid or sports setting.  The movie setting just isn't the right one but I can't decide which one is more crisp betweene the vivid and the sports.

I gotta say I have a big screen.  New about 6 months old (GOt it for SUperbowl in Dec hehe) its a Sony.  Its so awesome.  Then I baught some sorround sound speakers and such.  It saweet.  I'm sure my TV will be fine tho.  Its a risk, but only, like the guy said, if u dont turn it off at night or something and leave it on the same screen.

screen burnt is when u display a certain image on the screen for too long..and the image permenatly stays there...

I have HDTV, but I play all my video games on a seperate 32 toshiba. I had a conversation with a friend of mine that installs and does service for PC Richards (Sort of like a semi local Best buys but a little smaller) He dissuaded me from using video games on projection televisions in general, but especially on HDTV and plasma (I don't have plasma) He told me of several instances of burning images left on television screens, and mostly in the form of SPEEDOMETERS. I'm not going to risk it. Alternatively I know someone with a Sony, HDTV ready, and (tube not projection) it looks good. (But not as good as my Toshiba (at half the price))

A burnt image is a place on the TV that has been utilized more than the rest of the general are of the TV, thus prematurely aging those pixels. More than 15 minutes per hour of TV use with a static (unmoving) image will begin the process.

I'm sure there is a risk of this but I have been playing on my Sony 46" tv since the game came out. So far no ghostly images burned into the screen yet. I got to use it as this is the only way to go for me. I love it.
