A lot of stores are being allowed to sell the console for $200. Some even have bundles for $200. So the question is...has Sony permanently dropped the price or this just a gimmick. If it is a true price drop, it would mean you'd have a choice between the 4GB Xbox 360 or the 160GB PS3. I do have to say, even if it's a gimmick, it's a smart move.

How is that even seen as a gimmick? They're not brand-spanking new anymore.

It would be a gimmick if they lowered the price during the Black Friday weekend and then it returned to it's regular price afterward.

A gimmick is defined as:

"a trick or device intended to attract attention, publicity, or business."

Temporarily lowering the price of a product to encourage people to buy your product over your competitors fits the definition.

I'd say Black Friday only. I'd bet they have a deal with Sony allowing it and the stores are using it as a marketing tool. Benefits for both Sony and Black Friday ads

I personally think it's mainly a gimmick, but I also think that Sony will be watching the sales and how well it does at $200. I do smell an official price drop coming soon...maybe in time for Christmas? Maybe...

It's a Black Friday special. It's only a "gimmick" on the part of the store to get everyone to spend money at their locations.

Funny, I went to Walmart, Sam's Club, Kmart... all were sold out of the PS3 bundle for $199... Was at Walmart at 10:01, they were sold out when I walked in. Sams, similar, Kmart... similar. Pretty much had given up was on my way home, decided to go to Best Buy to get a charger station with DVD remote thing... They had 20 or more of the PS3 bundles this was over 7 hours after they had opened at midnight... So I wound up buying one of the bundles at Best Buy...

Meanwhile.. I somewhat doubt this is the last of this sort of pricing.
