Right, so I got a new controller at the weekend since my old one stopped working and I can't stand the non-official ones. My problem is the controller can't seem to connect to the ps3, when I press the PS button I just get the flashing lights, but it won't recognize the ps3, is there something I'm overlooking or do I have a problem with my ps3?

Also, I can't get into safe mode since the other controller I have is battery powered and it needs a usb for some reason. I also tried my DFGT since it connects via usb but that also failed. So, I'll probably have to borrow a mates controller at some stage if I've got a ps3 problem which seems likely.:(

Any help/advice? Reset button in-effective btw.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you need to plug your ps3 controller with a cable to your ps3, that way it will recognize it. And you only need to do it once .

Whenever I go play outside my flat and bring my controller that's what I do and it sync with my friends ps3.

This. You need to connect your new controller to the PS3 via a USB cable.

Sounds like a bad port to me if the DFGT also won't work. I've had a lot of problems getting new controllers to work wirelessly, but usually the reset button and power cycling fixes it, so...

Well, the DFGT works normally, just not in the Safe Mode, I'm not sure if this is normal or not.

But now you mention it, it could well be a dodgy port, as the problem with my last controller was it wasn't able to charge in either slot.

Damn, this could become expensive...:nervous:

Try an externally powered USB hub, that might work. As in, plug the powered hub into one of the slots on your PS3 then plug the stuff into that and see what happens. I'm not 100% sure but if you have somehow shorted one or both of your USB ports they might still be able to transmit and receive data, but not provide the 2.5W they're supposed to (USB ports are generally fused to protect the rest of the computer in case of a short-circuited peripheral or port). Using a powered hub might solve that, but then might not, I don't know. If you have a hub lying around you might want to try it.

Something similar happened to me, I plugged the thing via USB while the PS3 was off, then I started the thing with the PS button of the controller, it kinda recognized it.

I did this after making a factory reset though.
