I am not the biggest fan of the pS3 controller. But got me thinking what do you the fine folks at gtplanet think is the best game controller every used for a console. Personally i think it was the ps2, i felt it was well thought out.
And i really think the controller is an essential part of a game console without it being comfortable you can't have fun.

Edit: if i missed any pics of console controllers please post them on my behalf 💡 tanx.

I love the PS2 controller, simplicity mixed with function. I can't say anything about the PS3 or 360 because I haven't played one yet so my vote goes to PS,PS2.

Super NES/Super Famicom controllers were voted, "the best controllers, there ever will be!" by 97.8% of the gamers. Everybody knows this! :sly:

I do like the controllers, but doesn't feel like you could break it in half if you wanted too.

The Dualshock is the most perfect, ergonomic design ever for a controller. The PS3 controller is simply two bananas with buttons.

I had to post this retardedly chopped controller

i say the new PS3 controllers rule they look high-tech and comfortable 👍
I have to disagree the ps3 controllers are so ugly the boomarang look is hidious. It looks like one of those bargain controllers for the ps2. I think they should have kept the essential look of the dualshocks.

hideous they may be but unbelievably comfortable they are and they look pretty high-tech but yes not that appealing to the eye

Xbox gets my vote, it's crap for fighting games, but utterly jedi for racing (love those triggers man), adventure, and FPS. If it was "which is the best fighting game pad", my vote would be the megadrive 6 button pad, the PS2 pad has a crappy d pad, and only 4 buttons on it's face (xbox pad is too big, has 4 buttons, so isn't great for beat em ups, though I do like the xboxes D pad). I like a small nimble pad, with 6 face buttons and an awesome d-pad for fighting games. The PS2 pad also gives me sore thumbs :(, but I'm a wimp.

BTW if you voted for the xbox360 or PS3 pad, then your a tool. You can't judge a pad unless you use it!

The PS2 pad is great no doubt, but I think the Xbox S pad is just better. Primarily due its triggers which are great for racing games as code_kev mentioned. I only wish the Xboxs d-pad was analogue like the PS2 pad.

PS2 pad is my favorite. The Xbox one is good too, but big for my hands. Yeah, even the S model. I played Dreamcast a few times and didn´t really like its pad. The Gamecube pad is okay. The Mega Drive and Super Nintendo´s pads were good on those days.
Xbox 360´s pad seems to be good. A bit smaller than the S pad and with those two shoulder buttons added.

PS3´s pad is just awesome! I mean, if your friend passes in front of the TV when you´re playing you can throw it on his head and it still comes back to you. :D 👍

Seriously though, I hope they change the final design. It doesn´t seem very friendly for the hands IMO.

i'm just wondering if anyone found the N64 controllers refreshing, i did, i thought it was kinda cool for a while.
Come to think of it, I don't think I've not liked any of the Nintendo controllers. NES, SNES, N64 and now GameCube, I liked them all. Only one minor complaint would be the GC's controllers' A, B, X and Y button layout.

Don't know what Sega were thinking when they designed the Dreamcast controller, it was a nightmare, especially when playing Virtua Tennis.

PS2's DS2 is the one for me. Simple, yet effective.

Forgot to mention the Nes controller. The corners of that pad were so sharp my palm used to get straight white marks after just an hours play.

The GC controller does look "messy." Like something a 4-year-old would draw in art class.

I didnt like the Xbox controller becauae of the 6 face buttons. X360 fixes that problem. The placing of the black and white is terrible. some games were akward where you needed more buttons. The triggers have one use. One use does not make it best.

PS2's comtroller all the way

Gamecubes is just another gimmick like everything Nintendo.

I'm going to have to lean toward a mixture between the PS2 and the XBox. The locations XBox's analog sticks make them easy to use. The PS2 has a good button layout. So I would like to see a controller that the analog sticks in the same place as the XBox controller yet keeping the PS2 layout.

I voted the DS2 simply because of the button layout. most all other controllers these days put the joy stick at the main position in place af the D pad, with maybe a rediculously small, utterly usless D pad in an uncomfortable place. I hate joy sticks. Blame GT for that I guess. I was raised on the D pad and always will be a "pad and buttons" kind of guy. (That is unless I'm using a wheel) On the other hand, after a quick sampling of all my controllers, the DS2 is the only one i have to hold in my fingers rather than my palms.

[EDIT]
Ok, well my Genesis controller is a finger-er too.

Personally I find the triggers on the XBox controller to be horrible for racing games. Especially if you play for awhile. Aside from that the XBox controller (the new version) is great. Just not quite as good as the PS2 controller.
