i love the ps2 controller, the layout of all the buttons are perfect. the ps3 practically has the same layout so it should be just as good.

i dont really like the xbox controller; it makes my wrists hurt and i think its too big, also the buttons are in weird places. it's like trying to play that game where they say... "left foot on blue, right hand on green." and my fingers get all twisted. the 360 looks to be the same, so it should be just as bad :)

remember... it's not how it looks, it's how comfortable it is. cuz when i play GT for hours a day, my wrists or fingers don't hurt... well only my right thumb from pressing the gas, and my finger nail gets black and blue :grumpy:

That doesn't hurt?!?!?

BTW which xbox pad you on about, it can't be the S pad, the old xbox pad is an abomination though.

I love the DS2. Excellent pad, very comfortable, and the layout is virtually perfect. I'm also a huge fan of the 2nd generation X-Box controller, the N64 controller, and the Genesis controller.

I'm going to have to lean toward a mixture between the PS2 and the XBox. The locations XBox's analog sticks make them easy to use. The PS2 has a good button layout. So I would like to see a controller that the analog sticks in the same place as the XBox controller yet keeping the PS2 layout.
That would be the Xbox360 pad.

Code: old x-pad = abomination??? thats the only thing i use. i dont like the 's' controller, its way too hard to snipe. The big one fits my hands perfectly, and i love the placement of white and black. and I used to be a ps2 fanboy...so wut now??

and the x' controller big is perfect for racing games. like forza. i love it :D

The DS2 by far, and I think that is reflected in the fact that it remained almost unchanged from Playstation to PS2.

When I first had the PS3 controller decribed to me by a friend I thought :yuck:, sounds hideous. Now that I've seen a picture, I reckon it looks the business. I can't pass final judgement until I get it in my hot little hands, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. If it is crap to use, hopefully I can use my DS2 on PS3, the same as I can use Playstation's dualshock on my PS2 - for now though, it'll be DS2 all the way... :)

Well it certainly depends upon the kind of game, doesn't it? Since racing is all I play, then the Controller S is a divine gift. :) [code_kev, "Xbox gets my vote, utterly jedi for racing (love those triggers man").] *lose the Star Wars references man, they're quite Wookified* PS2 is a marvel of functional elegance made timeless by its ergonomics. However, the Dreamcast controller intro'd me to triggers for racing games and changed me forever.

Yes it is nothing less than sacrilege to be goofing with the DS2 design, and the PS3's controller just looks embarrassing - do they know they're embarrassing us? It looks like some futuristic design you might find in old film-footage of a 1950s state fair. On ForzaCentral all the XDuke Fanboy Homies are yucking it up over the irony of "who's got the ridiculous controller now!"

It's rough. :(

Don't know what Sega were thinking when they designed the Dreamcast controller

Anyways, I accidently (lol) voted for the 360 - meant to cast support for the Controller S. But it's all good - the Xbox 360 controller is like a souped up Controller S and it's wireless.

I don't think PS3's is. :lol::lol::lol:

Couldn't this have been put in the "Gaming in General" forums? The title is about the PS3 controller, but it features all controllers. I don't get, homie...

If any type of controller feels good in my hands and maybe even looks good, the PS2 Controller is perhaps the hands down favorite. The balance is very good between gripping the controller, pressing the appropriate buttons and tilting the analog sticks. I see the Nintendo 64 controller, and my brother and I really messed up the analog stick after playing the N64 game "1080" a lot. Just trying to pull off anything cooler than a 360 really beat down the analog stick. I think only once I pulled off the 720, even a few 540s. My brother landed a 1080 once.

Now on to the main title of this thread. I think the PS3 controller doesn't look too bad. It seems like it should be a nice controller to pick up and control effectively. It kind of seems like half of a small steering wheel, so the feel is true to my love of racing games. Maybe even fun for jacking cars in Grand Theft Auto and evading the 5-0. The design seems pretty nice to me.

Last thing... I haven't seen this on websites or anything, but is the PS3 going to be the first PlayStation console to offer four slots for four-player action? I seen the four USB ports and wondered if the PS3 controller is USB, and if the PS3 will have four-player action. If so, this would be a hit for a great 4-player party game.

Or is it?

Something I forgot to mention-
You know... If they were going to change anything about this incredible controller (DS2), one would have hoped for a couple of small, analog T-R-I-G-G-E-R-S in place of L2 & R2. Crap, even a half-ass sliding thing like the GamCube.

But nooo.

Silly to include the PS3's and Xbox 360's controllers considering no one here has used them. I voted for Xbox anyway. The rim under the left analogue stick digs in to one of my fingers, and makes it sore after a bit on the DS2. Plus it has no kick ass triggers like the Xbox and GC ones do. The PS2 pad would be great if the analogue stick was moved up in to the same position as the the Xbox and GC analogue sticks, and the R2 and L2 buttons were replaced by some sort of triiggers like the Xbox and GC have.

No, actually PS3 supports 7 wireless controllers.

And I think it looks pretty good actually, I'm exciting and hoping that this will be one of the first controllers to use function and ergonomics over form.

DAMNIT, con!
I KNEW'd I might be wrong!

Anyway all yutes who talk about the black-and-blue thumbs and sore fingers and stuff from playing games are like, SERSLY hardcore - i don't think i spend more than 30 minutes at a time playing with anything. (Except myself.)

i know i know- more information that you needed.

I think I'm going to like the "boomerang" controller. I've always wanted a DualShock 2 with wireless and a little bit beefier. Hopefully it will accomodate. I think the new XBox controller will totally rock balls. The "S" is quite nice, so making it wireless will be pretty incredible.

Naw, I saw in the post before you mentioned it, just thought I'd say it again for redundancy.

LoudMusic: I agree, I think with the extra size on this and the more ergonomic oriented design (at least i hope so) this controller will feel pretty good.

The new S looks pretty nice too, I like the off button feature...sooo nice.

Is it seven? I thought it was six. And probably more like "X number of wireless devices" - don't limit it to controllers.

Good point. Yea it's seven though, up to seven wireless bluetooth devices (controllers until other things are announced).

I think what we might see in the future are bluetooth headseats, that would be cool, but they'd be beefy :( we'll see, but the possibilities are there.

Any ideas on being able to use DS on the PS3?

Also I hope the new controllers aren't battery powered. That could be a right pain in the arse.

I don't remember seeing any 'classic' controller ports in the mock-up. Only lots of USB. There are adaptors but no telling if they'll work with the console.

And as for the wireless controllers - yes they will be battery powered ... how else will they get electricity? Whether it's a rechargable built-in or removable (AA / 9V) is the question.

More than likely, since the button configuration is identical. In fact, I'm willing to bet the internals are identicle, yet there is a new forcefeedback motor, or none at all.

So with that said, I don't see a problem, it's just a matter of which 3rd party manufacturer devlops the USB adapter first.

As far as wireless and batteries...yeh, it'll be a pain, but what I'm hoping for is rechargable AA battery's, that way a trickle charge would be possible if the controller came with wires. But...knowing sony, we'll see a "recharge kit" that will consist off the batteries and the cable for a set price...that's my guess, lol.

Oh I don't know about the bulk. I've seen some that are smaller than the XBox Live! communicator thing.

Google search <<--- a few to gander at. Some big, some small. Of course cost drives size, so the smaller it gets the more it costs.

I don't want to be eiterh A) constantly buying batteries B) Having to constantly recharge batteries that won't last long anyway.

But where would you plug them in? And would you have to leave your PS2 on in 'charge' mode while it tops them up?

No official news about that so far, but I think it will come with rechargeable batteries, and some device to recharge them.

I know Sony likes to make money out of things like this by selling kits, but I don´t think that will be the case here. Selling Network Adaptors and Multitaps apart from the console is ok since they´re not essential for you to play games, but with batteries it´s very different.

FatAssBR
Sony said that the controller´s batteries will last for 24 hours, rumble enabled.

24 HOURS?!!!?... - I'll be buying a new set of batteries twice a week!!!

They better be rechargable, or it is OTT from Sony to expect us to shell out $$$ all the time to replace batteries when they offer no corded option. :irked:

💡 I suppose I could just use my own rechargable ones though - one set on charge with the other set in the controller...
