Ok so i went and bought the Official PS3 bluetooth headset, very nice piece of kit, bought it especially for GT5 coming out but theres a problem........

I'm actually only going to be able to use it if i'm on the XMB ( i mean hello who does this ) or in an online lobby/race.

I'm not used to playing my PS3 just use it for blu rays as most of my mates play 360's and now i can see why - i mean no voice chat while in game / cross chat / party chat???

Come on Sony what are you playing at? Its ment to be an online community and i cant talk to my buddys to arrange a game to play / talk about the game we are playing while online?

So heres my plan - I am going to tell my mates who are going to be playing GT5 to have their XBOX 360 turned on and in party chat all with our wireless 360 headsets.

So effectively in order to play GT5 i need my 360 turned on just to enjoy the game and discuss 'real time' with my friends.

You could do this, also, by using the skype... But anyway its a sad thing to hear, the news are bad...:grumpy:

Just a few peanut gallery comments from me, as I was going to respond in the News & Discussion thread but didn't want to go off-topic.

There is a voice/video chat feature from the XMB. But of course it only works from within the XMB. And many games do have a voice chat feature from within online lobbies. Now that means you're restricted to talking to other people who are also in the lobby. Although to me, it only made sense. Maybe I'm just not good at multitasking but I couldn't imagine carrying on much of a conversation playing one game while the person I was speaking with was playing something else. So not being an Xbox user or somebody who ever had access to cross game chat, I never really missed it or truly saw the use of it.

I generally only play racing sims so my experience is limited. But there's sort of an unwritten rule that you talk, laugh, joke around and chew the fat while you're sitting in the lobby of racing games. But once the race starts, talk stops. And it's used only for quick, game related comments, such as "coming up on your left", etc.

Sure I've had private lobby events where we joked around and talked the whole race. But for the most part, talking during the race itself is something of a social faux pas and I've seen furious hosts boot players from the lobby who rattled on the entire time. Most of the racing games I played with voice chat were smaller, lesser known titles (Ferrari Challenge, Supercar Challenge, SSV8 Racing). NFS Shift was a big seller but it's voice chat was awful quality And I never much cared for the game so my experience with it was limited. I guess it remains to be seen how the GT5 community will handle voice chat. I'm assuming it will support voice chat during the race with those racing and spectating. We'll find out today. If it is, you and your mates will be able to host a private race and talk to each other.

None-the-less, I guess if you're used to using a feature in a certain way and you become accustomed to it, you're going to miss it. I know there's been unofficial talk about cross game chat from Sony for a while, but I'm not sure if we'll ever see it.

The main reason i want it is particularly with one friend we used to sit and play every GT title for hours with 2 tv's 2 consoles now we stay in different towns and chat a lot on 360.

Now the things i'd be talking to him about over chat would be things i discover like, what you win for certain races / licence tests, what races wins you a decent car to sell on for money, how much money we have, what cars can have what modifications all in real time.

It adds to the experience !

If the game itself has the option for ingame chat (which all games I play online have) you will have no problem.
I would have to believe GT5 will have it.

I just hope for clarity like Skype and not whatever you want to call Call of Duty voice chat. But that is probably more of an issue with cheap mics and headsets.

I used Skype for Prologue.I suggest Skype to all that want to chat anyway, though you need a computer next (cord length) to you while chatting.
If I remember correctly Skype has a 24 person lobby.

This is where people are getting mixed up with this - i do not only want to talk when playing an online race, i want to be able to chat even when doing solo career / gt life.

We shouldnt need to use skype from a pc. The playstation 3 easily has the hardware to accommodate such a voice chat / cross game chat / party chat feature

I would recommend the Turtle Beach PX21's. Made for the PS3 but works on all other platforms. 16' cable and very good headset for the price.

I had the PX21 for a week, I went with the AX720 because of the 5.1 and Removable Boom Mic. The PX21's have better bass than the 720's.

PX21 80.00

Stereo sound, separate bass control, and cheaper, alot of cables to hook-up.

Composite to TV, also need to plug the PS3 composites into the back of the playstation 3 if you are using HDMI. Then usb to PS3.

AX720 130.00

5.1 Surround Sound, Removable Boom Mic, Separate AMP controller with optical, quick install, optical to PS3, usb to PS3 done.

I may be repeating what someone else said but lemme clarify. . .

ANY bluetooth headset will work for chatting ingame with other racers?

Sony's own headset works perfectly fine. Sound quality is better than in most cellphones, IMHO

I just use my Tritton AX720s that I use for Black Ops for GT5, but hardly anyone talk during races in GT5.

I also use tritton AX-720's with my PS3, XBox360 and PC. works great with everything. I had turtle beach x41 wireless bur only worked on my xbox360. I don't really mine the cable since I am either sitting in my playseat or on the couch play COD.

I have an awesome setup for both LIVE and PSN gaming and chat.

Turtle Beach X41 wireless 7.1 surround headphones and Turtle Beach PBT (blue tooth headset) the PBT has a 2.5mm headphone jack to plug the Turtle Beach X41 mic into and the PBT has dual pairing capability so you can also answer your cel phone over the X41 headset and keep playing!

I have both the Sony ps3 official and the voyager 520 but they both end up muting sound and speech after 30 mins or so, then i cant reconnect them. any ideas?
