PS3 HDMI-DVI to tv problem

As for today, I wanted to connect my PS3 properly to my TV, and found a HDMI to DVI cable (and optic cable, but that works :) ) Now, the problem is that my tv is HD ready, but does not support 1080I/1080P/578P. Only 578I, which proves problematic when my PS3 tries to use HDMI to show the screen. My TV (a philips, cannot remember the make right now) stays black, and wont show a picture... Now, I've tried to configure the PS3 without luck, although I'm not a whizz in such things :P

Now, can anybody help me so I can fully (or almost fully) enjoy GT5:P and other HD games?

Much appreciated!

One thing i know for sure is that hd ready is not 576i
Hd ready is 720p - 1080i

576i is not even high definition

So im pretty sure it's not working because your tv is not HD

The HDMI output on the PS3 also used HDCP encryption, so if your TV doesn't support that, you're out of luck.

I also agree with Pat66.. if your TV only supports 576i, it's not HD-ready.

Is 578p/i a European thing?
576 is SD, for standard resolution/definition TV's.

As pat66 said, 576(i) =/= HD (ready or not).

hazzi - Could you post the model of your TV? Also, try to say what exactly have you configured on the PS3.

Gotcha. SD in the US is 480, thus my confusion.

For anyone else interested, wiki to the rescue!

Like pat already pointed out, if the tv really is HDready, it has to be able to accept 720p and 1080i and has to have a HDCP-capable HDMI/DVI input. I have two pretty similar and cheap LCD tvs though, where one of which works fine with the PS3, while the other doesn't show anything at all.

I know that first-hand because of my TV.. I don't know if they've resolved it in later models, but my make of TV has handshake issues over HDMI with the PS3. If there were no HDCP, there would be no handshake at all. The PS3's output signal over HDMI is HDCP-encoded for everything, even the XMB/dashboard.

wrong , you need an hdcp monitor with the ps3 or all you will get is a black screen showing no signal.

Yep.. I was wrong - again. Sorry...
