PS3 just YLOD'd

After all these YLOD topics I decided to take apart my 80GB PS3 to change the thermal compound. The later fat PS3s have a diferent cooling system, cheaper which consists of two small silver sinks on the bottom of the case. The thermal compound was not dry after more than a year of use, so that was ok, but I've got much better thermal grease(coolink brand) so I changed it anyway and put everything back together and now I feel safe although I didn't need to worry about it in the first place but I never knew. The good thing with the later PS3s is they are easier to take apart in order to change the grease there, there's no need to take everything out of the case, the motherboard is halfway through and easily reached.

I just joined the YLOD club 👎 And the badest is that I didnt backup my savegame :-( Maybe GT5 is too good for a PS3

I feel bad for any GT fan who bought a PS3 because of launch GT promises only to find it broke before GT ever came out...

my case.. and my ps3 went YLOD 2 times since i bought it.. i'll need to buy another ps3 for sure and they're laughing with our money .. grrrrrrrrr

Same situation as you, but I had it a long time so I think I got my $600 worth out of it.

ok, i was about to do a test run on the top gear track and my ps3 turned off, i thought huh i didnt press anything! then i thought oh no, i lokked at the ps3 and the red light was flashing, i switched it on and the yellow light popped up,

im totally skint thanks to xmas so cant buy a new one and wont be able to for a while as i'm not well enought to work untill a few months time.

oh yeah i had a 40 gig and i bought it 3 years ago to this exact day can you believe!

i probally wont turn it on now or try to fix it untill i buy a new one so i can back up the drive,

what i'd like to know if any one can aswer it is will it back up my gt5 game data? (not the game save) i've taken about 500 photos in photo mode and dont want to lose them also will it back up my bookmarks on the browser i also have loads of those so i cant remeber them,

thanks in advance

Your best bet is to find someone that can do the heat gun "fix" for the YLOD. It is temporary but you will be able to copy all of the saves and pix to some type of external media.

oh jesus christ :D happened to me today.. funniest thing is it happened while i was reading about ylod here on gtplanet :P

well well will be fun playing trough the game from start again :D

I have a refurbished 60gb model, about two years old now. It replaced a launch 60gb. It actually seems to run a lot cooler with GT5 than others games, such as fallout3 and GTA4. Or at least, the fans ain't waking up the neighbours when i play GT5.

Fingers crossed (ive probably jinxed it now).

Quoting myself, because my PS3 just YLOD'd. :guilty:

Worst time possibly, I am broke and will be for a while thanks to xmas and bills. Brilliant. Can't decide whether to send it to a 3rd party repair place or try and fix myself. I can get it fixed for £70.

Bollocks.

Crap, I too have a 60GB, and I don't want GT to be the death of me. :scared: Of course, knowing my luck, if it does and I fix it, it'll go RROD on me, and I'll be sent back to the dark ages of *shudders* Mission 34.

Mine did it last night while I doing a B spec race :grumpy: I just waited til this morning and did the heat gun fix and am now back up and running.... didn't lose anything in GT5. There is no reason any of your saves or data should be affected.

This is the second time mine has done this, first time was almost a year ago, if it only does it once a year and I don't lose anything but a couple hours fixing it..... I'll live with it. :)

My 60GB hit the dust earlier this month with the YLOD. However, when I got home I followed Gilskys youtube tutorial on how to fix it and it is now working again! Seriously - if you have some confidence with electronics and you are lost on what to do - the heat gun solution does work. I've backed up my save and am happy as larry :)

This happened to me two weeks after playing, I think I was 13 A-spec, 19 B Spec, anyways, it ate my disc, took apart my PS3, gave the bluray player to my friend since he needed a new one, ejected my disc, bought a new PS3, and have been playing this exclusively ever since. Also bought Logitech DFGT. :D

Sorry guys but I have not read all threads, so exuse me if someone has mentioned this: If you are in the UK your playstation 3 will still be covered under the sales of goods act 1979 even up to 6 years after purchase. I know this for a fact as my PS3 died 2 weeks ago after 3 years of serious gaming, I contacted the place I brought it (GAME) and they are fixing it for free!!! Luckily my brtother in law has 2 PS3's!!!
