I have a problem with my PS3 Slim I bought way back in 2011. Ever since I bought Grand Theft Auto V, the fans have been running as loud as ever. Before buying it, my PS3 was virtually silent, but now the sound levels are nearly as loud as my Xbox 360 Elite (2007). Is this something I should be worried about? I really don't want my PS3 to conk out on me just shy of a month before GT6.

You could find on youtube how to disassemble your ps3 slim, then clean it and them put it back into one piece. It's really easy you have to had two screwdrivers to do it. Clean it the fan and it might help.

That my first idea. There is no reason that GTA5 could force ps3 fan to work harder.

You can clean the fans with a hoover attachment without opening it.

Not generally recommended with any computer equipment as hoovers cause static. Better off getting a can of compressed air to blow all the dust out (ideally open it up), fairly cheap on Amazon etc.

There is also a way of whizzing the fans up for a few seconds to blow dust out, but it's arguable whether this is a deliberate feature or not. I think it is, but at your own risk. It's something like holding the power button down but check Youtube.

Of course always keep your PS3 well ventilated, I have little stick on cushioned feet under mine to raise it a little too.

Yep, I did that and it worked. Mean't to post it but GTP was down.

Main power switch off (back of old fat PS3), press and hold the disc eject sensor and then turn the main power switch back on.
Wait 2-3 seconds and the fans should start reving up. You can stop holding the eject sensor at that point and simply wait until it turns itself off after about 10 seconds.
Red light should be flashing after this, but no worries, simply turn power off and on one more time and it's done.

It shouldn't damage your system. You can do it once per month as example.

EDIT: I think you need to pull the power cable on slim PS3s because they have no main power switch, or perhaps it doesn't even work on those.

It works on slims, not sure if it's done the same way, you just let go of the button I think, or it might stop itself. I don't think I had to cut the power.

I just checked it and you do need to pull the power cable (of course NOT when it's running).

EDIT: I think you misunderstood my previous post slightly.

I said it turns itself off, but before you hold the eject button you need to pull the power cable and then while holding it you must plug the cable back in. Same process, just by using the power cable instead of the main power switch on old fat PS3s.
