PS3: Red Screen of Death?

I'm having the same problem with the red screen. It started like this: some 3 or 4 weeks ago I put a USB drive into the PS3, and then turned it on, but I got the red screen. I tried turning it off and on like 3 times, but same result, so I turned it off, took the USB drive out and turned the PS3 on, and it worked fine. So yes, I think that the USB drive had some kind of virus, and that it is the cause of the problem.

Since then I get the red screen almost once a week, and everytime I have to re-install the GT5 DLC from the play station store.
Will the option "Restore PS3 system" help me?
It's the first time I have trouble with the PS3 (a 80GB fatty).
Any help is appreciated 👍

I had an 80 GB phat as well.
Honestly, the only thing you can do is send it in.
I can't tell you how many hours I spent researching it.
Nothing else you can do.

I've found something that might help you. First go here and download original Sony Firmware. Thats 4.0! Do not try to be smart and try it install 3.55. It wont work !!!

Then Download this two files

NORSOD patched PUP (170mb)
1. http://www.ps3scenefiles.com/file.php?id=300

rsodfix.gnpdrm.pkg (616kb)
2. http://www.ps3scenefiles.com/file.php?id=298

Then put them into external HDD, connect to your ps3

circle.png
install NORSOD, this is patched PUP
cross.png
install rsodfix.gnpdrm.pkg and run it from XMB
square.png
run rsodfix
triangle.png
now install new firmware

As for the firmware, create folder UPDATE and inside put your firmware .pup file

Let me know if this works

Have you tried this, or know of someone who has tried it? I would like more information before trying this myself.

Some said above about a fan failure id check and see if it works , it must be a hardware failure of some sort this RSod must be a new thing sony did in the last few system updates
