PS3 release date and price answer!!

It depends on taxes, average income ect. It's like here in the UK I think the average income is higher than in the US, we also pay VAT on everything at 17.5%, so if we buy an item that should be say £30 it would be sold for £35.25, or £35.99 most likely because the shop would round it up. The VAT puts the price up straight away, the higher income average, means on average we can afford more, so instead of letting us afford more we pay more for the same. This is ofcourse all generalised, there are instances where items are cheaper here than the US, mainly due to the fact it was built here and shipped to wherever though. The higher the average income and the higher ammount of taxes have to be paid the more expensive an item will be in that country.

Most likely are - Late next year, $299 in the US, £299 in the UK.

Could be - Early 2007 for the same prices. I doubt it will cost more, it could be the PS3's undoing if it did.

Ouch if I wasnt saving for a car or I was a year younger I would have to buy a xbox as I wouldnt want to wait that long for ps3 and then also get ps3 when its released.

Though I initially thought $299 would be a great figure, I really don't think Sony is going to be able to pull it off, especially with reports of them using their new 2x BD-Rom drives.

In all honesty, I'm going with Oct 2006 at a luanch price of $399 in the United States, probably looking at May/June for $399+ in Japan.

Actually, I meant $399 US and £299 UK that was a typo, $299 US is half of £299 of thereabouts, we pay more but not double .

It means it's 2 times faster than the factory specification.

If you have a factory spec of 10mb/s then 2x would be 20mb/s.

I don't remember all my numbers right now, but 2xBD-Rom is equal to or faster than a 12x DVD drive IIRC.

Australia's retail price will most likely be double what the US's retail price will be even though our currency is worth over 70% of the US's. Paying double is just normal for us now.

Though watch the price drop after a couple of months. It happened with the PS2. Still, it gets quite annoying paying double.

Here I'll have to import from US, and the import tax in Brazil is 60% over the product's price.

But Paraguay doesn't charge import taxes, so I'll try to sneak one in from there. That's what I did with the PS2.

In terms of graphics probably not much, in terms of gameplay, we'll have to wait and see. In terms of what else the unit can do besides games, plenty if it's all taken advantage of. It's far too early to say we'll be seeing this and that being done with it, I can tell you what it's capable of but you might as well watch the E3 Sony press conference vid (even though it's over an hour long).

Most likely true... it will depend mostly how many developers take advantage of the multiple cells. While the quality of the graphics may not be much higher, I think you'll see a lot more interaction between the different 'layers'. Debris, spectators, damage, etc, would all be better implemented by using their own dedicated cell processor.

But, honestly, we'll all have to wait and see. The real test will be those games that are multi-platform; we'll be able to compare directly between the XBox and the PS3.

I think the capabilities for all that are far higher than the XB360, but like you said, it depends how much developers take advantage of the hardware. It's still too early to get an accurate idea.

I couldnt tell the difference between xbox and ps2 except that the xbox didnt have as much slowdown.

Do I have a rubbish eye or do you need to actively compare them for it to be noticeable.
