It's official, Solid Lifters is nothing but an arrogant child who doesn't understand the value of a dollar....More power to you kiddo, now go play Halo.

I have to agree.. paying $350 or so for a game console is one thing.. paying several thousand dollars for a new television is just a *wee* bit different. Sure, we could go "cheap", and get a small set for under a thousand, but at that size, there's not a huge visual difference between that and the TVs that we already have.

It's like trying to convince someone to buy a BMW that they don't need, just because they're buying a fancy sound system for their Civic. It just doesn't make any sense.

And Sony won't be releasing any "versions" of anything for different resolutions.. the games themselves will support them all, so us "poor people" with 480i TVs don't have to buy anything differently than all the "rich people" with 100" HDTVs.

Solid, does your TV have HDMI or DVI?

No, you can get a DR-ready set, that will display HDTV images, for around 600-700 bucks.

That's not the same thing.

People aren't poor. They just whine like babies at the cost of new TVs. So, I say, shut up and buy it. If not, then no HD for you and NO PS3 for you.

Solid, does your TV have HDMI or DVI?

Nope. I have I-Link and two high-band component inputs. It's 4 years old.

Getting an HD or digital TV that's the same size as the one I already have isn't going to make any difference whatsoever. That $600-700 is only going to mean a *slight* increase in sharpness. Whoopty-frikkin'-doo. NOT WORTH IT.

Looks like you'll be needing a new TV yourself. Or haven't you heard? High-definition movies (i.e. Blu-Ray) require HDMI in order to play at HD resolutions. Otherwise, you'll be watching pretty much the same thing I'm watching on my "old" non-HD set. Cheers.

And yes, it is the same thing. You're trying to convince people to buy something that's NOT REQUIRED TO PLAY THE GAMES. I can play PS3 just fine on my old 27" 480i set, thank you very much. And I couldn't give a rat's ass what YOU think about it.

Whoever told you that is a liar or doesn't know what he's talking about. The Blu-ray device has the HDMI output along with component outputs as well with RCA outputs. Component outputs will be HD quality. HDMI is a new digital connection that will also transfer multi channel audio. DVI, is digital video only. HDMI is HDCP compliant, and DVI might not be. The PS3 wont be a HDCP device because it's not allowed by US laws.

I'm well prepared to buy a new HDTV set when the PS3 comes out. Mine is getting old. I would love to get a new set with at least one HDMI input, since it's the new connection standard for TV sets, but it's not necessary. Component, high-band, works just great for me.

Hmmm, if you don't care, why are you wastng your time responding? Nothing else better to do?

Well congradulations. To you money is obviously not an issue.
Thank god you're living such a perfect life.

Back to the other side of the argument.

You're going to buy a TV for your PS3? If that isn't a prime example of nerdery I don't know what is.
As for cost, let's see...400 dollars for a PS3....Then the 900+ dollars for a new TV set the same size as my TV.
Hmm 1300$$$ dollars...To hit the "menu" screen, that doesn't cover game cost either...Wow..What a complete waste of money...
1300 dollars right there will get you a PC that will STOMP the Ps3...So there's your "PC comparison" argument right there too...Hah, thanks..Saved me some time..

And you're right, Jedi's BMW example didn't really work...

It's more like telling people to Go out and buy a 2005 BMW 3 series..
Because their 2004 BMW 3 series emblem is 2mm shorter..
Hmmm, if you don't care, why are you wastng your time responding? Nothing else better to do?

I think he's reffering to his Television and it's size...Not his opinion on anything...

Re-read it..You might understand it this time....

Wow are you REALLY that rich?!?! AMAZING!!!
WOOO
PARTY AT SOLIDS HOUSE!!!
Make sure to invite your cousin.

Oops! That's right, you can't! That idiot is still in jail.

So what exactly IS your point, SL? Is there one, or does it make you feel all badass to brag about your TV to those who don't have one?

I have a feeling that even after I get an HDTV (which, yes, I plan to do just prior to PS3's launch), you'll still be bragging that yours is better, or bigger, or something else equally worthless.

Actually I have a few cousins I could invite, is it alright if I bring a different one????
Or did you want the one that likes Nissans?

No Jedi..That's not like Solid...He doesn't brag at all...

He's just .... Better than everyone.

I mean, I wish I had 1400 dollars to throw away on nerding it up.

But i've got responsibilities, I don't have daddy buying my TV

Solid Lift from another thread
I think I once read the PS3 AV multi out is the same as the PS2 AV multi out. So, I would be able to use my current PS2 AV multi out component cable. I hope this is true. It means one less thing to buy.

Hahaha, what an azzhole..Oh my god..

When did I brag? I just think people are dragging their ass on the new TV technology that is out there. It does NOT cost a lot of money to get a TV set that can display HD images. My set is old! There are sets as good, and some that are better, that cost half the price as mine! People whinning about the new TV technology is really starting to get on my nerves. TV and TV broadcasts can be so much better than it is now, but people like you are keeping it down. The same thing happened with color TV. People bad mouthed it, and hated the new change. People hate change, especially if it costs a little more.

Think about this, some time ago, it was decided by our government that analog TV would go away by 2003, and all HD digital TV would be here by 2005. It hasn't happened yet, so I'm sure you feel lucky. When will it happen? They now say 2007 or 2008 for digital only TV, and 2010 for all HDTV. This is ridiculous. We can have this now, if it wansn't for people like you. So, you can see why I could give a crap if Sony didn't make the PS3 with 480i in mind.

But, there will be a day, and soon, that all analog TV broadcasts are ending. It's time to stop delaying the inevitable. Things are getting delayed because of the people I assume like you who don't want to buy into the new technology.

Maybe now you can understand my point of you?

Wow, your lack of knowledge is more severe than I thought.

I think you're not seeing this from the same perspective as I am. Technology has nothing to do with my not owning an HDTV yet. It all boils down to one thing: MONEY. And right now, I simply cannot afford to blow a thousand bucks or so on a television. Keeping the roof over my head and food on the table is *slightly* more important to me than what kind of television I own.

Then how are you going to afford a 450 dollar, my estimate from recent reports from Sony, machine that will use discs that cost 50-60 a piece?

Start saving for a HDTV set. That's what I did. I would set aside ten to twenty bucks a week. Even people on minimum wage can do that. I did just that for several years, and had 3,000 bucks to use for a new HDTV set. It only takes discipline to budget yourself.

If you did that, in about 1.5 years time, you could buy a good DR TV set. Think about it.

The problem is that the manufacturers are withdrawling their old products from major stores to make way for their flagships. How many times does a person need a new TV, anyway? People just don't always NEED top of the line. The time hasn't come for full HD broadcasting. It won't come until every TV of up to the year 2000 has crapped out. I'd give it 15 years for analog TV to become totally outphased.

That's exactly what I'm doing. By the time PS3 launches, I'll be perfectly able to purchase it, the television, games, etc. But that requires planning, in order to make sure those types of disposable funds are available. I'm saying that right now, they're not. If I go buy an HDTV tomorrow, then I can't pay my rent this month. See my point?

Boy, it's getting pretty deep in here.....

No disrespect to Jedi, but I don't think the BMW example works either. Nobody read my post earlier, so I'll have to say it again. In the United States, we are switching to HD in next few years. FCC originally ruled that switch to take place in 2006 or 2007, if I remember correctly. Now I'm hearing that switch was delayed to 2008, with the hard cut-off date for analog broadcasts by 2009. Let me copy Jedi and use the BMW again. Lot more people will own BMWs(HDTVs) by 2008, and only BMWs(HDTVs) will be allowed on the road(airwave) by year 2007 or 2008. There will be conversion kits that lets you drive your Nissans(analog TVs) on the road. However, that Nissan will still not drive like a bimmer(digital). Keep in mind, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that with all the increased sale of the BMWs(HDTVs), BMWs(HDTVs) will be selling for prices similar to that of Nissans(analog TVs) by 2009. I'm talkin like Maximas(WEGAs) though, not the prices of Sentras(RCAs).

I'm hearing PS3 is due out in spring of 2006, but I take it that's a Japanese release date? Maybe I'm wrong on that. My guesstimate on the U.S. PS3 release date would be later in 2006, almost 2007? If I have the timeline on the FCC Digital broadcast switch and PS3 release date straight, then about little over a year into the release of PS3, most people will have High Def compatible TV in the U.S. Keep in mind, most people will not have purchased PS3 within the first year of release. So even before most consumers get their hands on PS3, they would have switched to Digital already.

Again, like I said in my previous post, I'm not trying to support Solid's case that "OMFG! If you don't own HDTV, you don't deserve PS3!", but what he's preaching is lot truer than you think. ;)

Edit: Sorry. I took my sweeta*s time posting, now it's little outdated. :p

He's preaching, that the Sony Ps3 shouldn't even bother with integrating the ability to run on a NORMAL TV because it's a waste, which Jedi and I proved was further from the truth than the story of the Mormon religion.

If it's projected that HDTV's will be the "norm" in 07/08 and the Ps3 is debuting in 06/07, it doesn't really make sense to NOT integrate standard televisions.

I'm not saying you need to buy one NOW. But, you could start saving up for one NOW. I see your point very clearly. But, what I'm saying, the pS3 wont be here for an entire year, or even longer. You don't need to buy a PS3 at launch day, do you? You could wait an entire year, then purchase the PS3 and TV set toghether.

At 52 weeks a year, and say an average of 15 bucks a week, in 1.5 years, that savings would be around 1,200 bucks give or take a few bucks. That's not bad to work with, is it?

PS3 = $450.00
PS3 Games = $60.00
New DR TV set = $700.00
---------------------------------
$1,210. 00 plus tax.

I know, and I agree with you on the importance of PS3 compatibility with analog TVs.
And I don't. People have to bee weened from this terrible form of out-dated television techonolgy.

Don't forget that Sony isn't marketing the PS3 based on what people should have.. it's aiming it at what people do have. And fact is, most people still have non-HD televisions. People aren't going to run out and buy an HDTV just to play Playstation.. if the system required HDTV, then most people simply wouldn't buy it at all. Do you really think Sony wants that? Of course not.

If you want to complain, go complain to Nintendo.. current reports say the Revolution won't support high-definition at all.

And they are, it's called Hi-def programming, in which all cable companies are gradually switching over to.

A Console, especially one that Sony has quite a bit of effort going into, isn't something that should be used to force people into buying HD.

If Sony were to make it HD only, do you realize how BAD the 360 would spank it in sales?

People are draggin' their butt on the switch to HD, but I can't blame them. It's still spendy, which means manufactures aren't trying hard enough. :D

Edit:

Damn, I'm slow tonight. I gotta stop watching MAD TV, while trying to put together posts. :D

If you are so concerned about the cost of college, then don't buy a PS3, HDTV set or anymore video games, period.

I never said you HAD TO spend that money on a new TV set or PS3. If you're going to college, video games and TV should be the least of your worries. You'd have to be a complete moron to not realize that.
