My PS3 is a launch 20gig, I bought it used on ebay just after it was released so i have had it for about 4 years and it has been working great until a few days ago.

I was playing Modern Warfare 2 then i decided to play some Savage Moon(PSN downloaded game), This game loaded fine then during the first wave of bugs you have to kill (its a tower defense game) it froze. After a couple minutes i reset the system, if i remember correctly i had to use the switch in the back cause the power icon on the front of the system did not work. When i turned it back on as it loaded the system on the screen with the smokey wave and star like dots the motion started to get slower and slower, it didn't freeze but was just moving very slowly and i did not see th PS3 logo or profile menu, i tried resetting it two more times then when it kept doing it i just let it go till the next day. The next day and up till now the system has been loading like normal (about a week).

The other problem that started right after the freezing stopped is, when i put a game in the system everything works as it should but the CD icon does not show up on the XMB menu till about two hours after i insert the CD. But if i enter a downloaded game or a demo as soon as it is loaded and i push the PS button the CD icon is their and i can quit the downloaded game and enter the CD game. The game works like normal and loads at normal speeds no matter how long i play for. If i put a new game in it will do the same load problem again evin if i don't turn the system off between games.

I have not seen any error codes related to this problem, and take very good care of my electronics, i still have a launch PS2 that works just as good now as the day it was released 9 and a half years ago

Thanks for any help

Honestly, you're guess is as good as mine. I can say that you probably shouldn't have flipped the power switch off the back until after you forced a shut down. You have to hold the button down for quite a bit (ten seconds according to the manual). You may have corrupted the system.

I suggest you call Sony's customer support line. Anything I might recommend is going to be at best, guess work.

I fugued most people would say to call Sony,

I did hold the power button waiting for the beeps and all but nothing was happening. When the system came back on it gave me that message that i should use that method or the turn system off icon in the XMB bar. I ok'ed that message and on the Smokey wave screen it slowed again and i was able to use the button hold method

I Just want to know how log have you played it for as in hour wise a day?

Being unemployed i play about 8 or 12 hours a day i would say, mostly Modern Warfare 2, GT5 Prologue(for the WRS) GT4 and NFS Shift. usially about 4 days a week depending what my girlfriend is up to or if Kittie are on tour. While i was working i would play on the weekends

That did not work, i followed the video's instructions but my PS3 olny beeped once not twice and if i hold it longer it shuts off again. When i turn on the system i get the screen shown at 1:09 till the end, also GT4 and DVD's load like they should so it seems to be a Blu-Ray problem only,

Thanks

I have the original 60GB model. Don't know if anybody has had this happen to them, but while i was playing Burnout Paradise, after about a 3-hour session, a message came up saying 'PROBLEM READING DISC' then my PS3 froze. Did a soft reset(pressing standby for a few seconds). Then it would not read any PS3 games or Blu-ray movies, but my dvds, cds, and PS2/PS1 games worked fine! Weird.

I think it's cause you've played with so much and so long a malfunction happened.
