Hi guys, I've got a question:

Today while playing NFS:Undercover I was getting mad and turned off my PS3. Won't go into any stupid and ashaming details, but point is that now the disk won't eject. When I turn on the PS3 the blue indicator above the eject button doesn't light up, and when it does and I eject the disk it tries for a second and then it only does some noise.

Have I damaged seriously my PS3? :guilty::guilty::guilty:. Is there any way of fixing it up easily? If so, are there any special precautions I must have when oppening a PS3?

Thanks in advance for the help!

The only precaution you have to take is to make sure to touch something that is grounded before working on the PS3. There is plenty of tutorials online that tell you how to take the PS3's blu-ray drive apart.

Damned dude what have you done to your baby?

:scared:

Nothing too wrong apparently, but the problem has been apparently fixed. I just flipped my PS3 (while disconnected from power) and shook it gently for a bit. Out of nowhere it ejected the disk and took a new one in, read the game, and worked perfectly. Though, I think it now ejects and receives disks a bit more odd than before.

I appreciate very much the answer, thanks 👍. I was afraid of doing it by myself, thinking something could go wrong if I did.

Glad to hear it works again. By the way, I suppose you have a new HDTV for a long time now? (As your last one borke a considerable amount of time ago.)

Erm...well, yeah...time to resurrect this thread in yet another desperate cry for help towards the GTP geniuses.

Today I played GT5 after I left it some days after the incident previously stated on the thread. After like an hour of playing I started noticing a whirring noise, as in reading the disk, which used to be a smooth quiet sound. I was doing a license test, and was planning on ejecting the disk to see if it was getting scratched after I golded the event. When I finished the race, the game froze in the replay mode and didn't answered to the controller, so I accesed the XMB and quitted the game. Then, the screen came black. I pushed the eject button and nothing happened. I pushed the power button and nothing happened either. After like a minute the disk ejected and the PS3 came back to the main menu. However, what worries me mostly is that whirring sound, the freezing game, and, above all, the fact that the disk came out blazing hot out of the PS3. I've never felt such a hot CD. Maybe I've damaged the BD tray, or the unit??? :nervous::nervous::nervous: Is it safe to use it in this condition? (I'm confidently guessing no) What can be done in this situation?

Please help me!!! :scared:

How long did you play it for when it got so hot?

Not more than an hour or so. That's what makes it so weird :scared:.

Not so weird my PS3 died after about 10 minutes played that day. It was the fat PS3. What do you have, slim or fat?

If you need a blu ray eye I have a brand new one I can sell you. I payed $85 for it and i'll sell it for $40 +s/h

Thanks a lot for the offer man, but the shipping alone would be worth more than the part itself and it'd be hard arranging a payment given my location.

Anybody else has any idea to what may be the reason for über-hot PS3 disks and a strange whirring noise when reading disks?

I'd say burn a music CD and see if anything bad happens. If anything you can replace the drive and not be without a good game.

What's the worse that can happen to the PS3? Is there any way to fix a BD drive? Jeez...what have I done :(

I"m going thru the same problem, However I've learned it's almost impossible to by a replacement bluray drive for a PS3 Slim. You can however buy a new laser for it. From what I've learned just replacing the laser eye unit will solve most of your problems that you could be having.

When you open up the case for the bluray drive, there are motor controled arms with springs that help insert and eject the disc. hopefully nothing has gone wrong with them.

Look online for a part called Kem-450AAA and you'll get a better understanding of what your working with.
