There are a few videos on youtube and most say put in in and oven or use a hair-dryer, then put it in the freezer and it should work again.

WHAT?! No.

You have four options:

1. Get Sony to repair it for $150(Not recommended because you will lose all your data)

2. Get someone at an electronics repair store to do it for $40-ish

3. Find someone on Craigslist/online to do it for you for $40-ish

4. Do it yourself for $20(supplies)

Do not put it in the oven, use a hair dryer on it, or put it in the freezer.

If you are doing it yourself, you will need a few screws to open up the PS3, some thermal paste that you can get a Radio Shack, a heat gun(not a hair dryer), patience, and Youtube. Watch the tutorials. There are some with over a million views.

^ This. This is the only way which *can* reliably fix it if the process is followed correctly. Putting it in the oven, towel wrapping it, freezing, probably won't fix it and may even break it permanently so you can't do the above.

All thats pretty much temperary though. The best way is to find somone that can reball the solder joint's, but it's hard to find a reliable person to do that .

Which ends up just suggesting you might as well just buy a new cheap PS3 to save all the hassle and extra costs.

Thanks, I just want to fix it so it lasts at least 6 months so I can save up for a new PS3 and back up my data. Don't really have the spending money for it at the moment so thats why I want it to work in the mean time. I do have a friend who has done it before and they said their PS3 lasted another 6 months after that but they weren't able to fix it again after that. If I take it to a computer shop to fix it, will it last longer because normally their quality of work would have a better out come, no?

I've fixed YLOD with a Heat Gun before(€20)
The ps3 was never the same again though.
The fan would constantly go 99,999rpm.

And trust me the arctic silver was perfect.
YLOD = Sad day.
