Ps3

Well...I have good news and bad news on PS3...and even some well not good or bad news just...news!
GOOD
-Standard Broadband connection expected
-HDD Expected Standard...Many say would you rather have your gamers waiting at a loading screen or enjoying vast new landscapes that the PS3 is capable of
-Wireless Dual Shock2 Controlers Standerd (meaning no controller ports
-Capable of 4 on 4 gameplay
-expected to obliterate old 60fps standard
-Massivly upgraded RAM (no set amount yet)
-Sony plans to call in Electronic Arts, or Square Enix to develop some of the starting game titles
-TiVo Is even said to become part of the system but many dont like the idea considering PS3 is for games not tv thats what the TV IS FOR
OTHER NEWS
-Possibly doing away with old DVD formated games though many argue cinimatics and other hefty video files will overload it and not run smooth though some specualate the excess of RAM will do the trick
-early plans call for slot loading discs though not decided wether to stick with disk drive or slot...though i hope for a slot...for that sleek look
-Sony even experiments with memory sticks instead of cards considering they already have media cards for cameras etc. which hold more than any memory card(ps2)
-The first version of the PS3 is expected to come in March for testing considering they're still in planning...or so they say
-There is huge debate over the expected final release date ...Some argue they should wait till even 2010! though its expected fall 2006 after all the profits from PS2 and its games are dried up.
- They say some reasons why many systems such as Dreamcast fail is because they dont wait long enough and then dont have and adequate supply of games and then fade away. That is why PS2 had reverse compatability to ensure it would succeed in its early months...PS3 however may not feature this! Considering they have to limit its potential by adding lower software and hardware to allow for playback of old games. And after the first year or so nobody is playing the old games after there is a huge library of new games.
-Steven Kent (author of The Ultimate History of Video Games) said "a premature realease of PS3 is fatal"..."They need to be bored of the last system and ready to upgrade to the next. "
BAD
-Some argue PS3 Shouldnt feature and DVD playback feature...Because with DVD players so cheap now you might aswell save 50$ on extra payment for the DVD in the PS3 when you could goto KMART and buy one for $29.99
-Also the CD/DVD Burner was more aof a rumor than fact...Developers say "Thats what a computer is used for..."
-The HDD may not even be part of the standard game console as many argue with no CD/DVD burner whats the point?as they are considering memory sticks(such ass ones in digital cameras ex. 256Mb-1Gb)
-The games will be so extensive they could take 40-50 game developers 28-35months and 8million dollars versus the PS2 games which took 20-25 developers 20months and 3million per title....
-The price of the console is expected by sony to be 399$ though many argue with as much as Sony is talking about adding it'll be more like 500$ which could even become standard for the next generation consoles unfortunatly...Sony says though people have a choice go cheap with something like Gamecube or pay the 399$ for functionality and Power and the people will pay more....

So....Thats most of it...I hope none of this has been already posted because this all took me a while ....
All the info here was gotten from the Official Playstation Magazine issue 86

I heard reported that there would be complete PS2, which would featur all the things above. And a more basic version that would be a simple games console (possible with HHD and BB built in though:D)

:irked:
I thoughh Blue-ray was the future. And that Blue-ray was capable or reading CD's and DVD's.

-Sony even experiments with memory sticks instead of cards considering they already have media cards for cameras etc. which hold more than any memory card(ps2)
Yay :D, £20 for 8mb of storage was a rip off. I can get a USB-Flashdrive with atleast 64mb for £15.

There is huge debate over the expected final release date ...Some argue they should wait till even 2010!
Rediculous! :dopey:

There is rumoured to be an all-inclusive model of te PS3 and the basic gaming version. 💡

tivo is a feasible possility because It's being used on the PSX (the digital media center version of the ps2)

In fact, many of the features in the PSX are rumored to be put onto the ps3 simply because the PSX was used as a testbed for various technologies that sony was considering implementing.

All that matters to me is that ps3 is backwards compatible with ps2 and ps1 games. As long as they do that, I'll be a very happy camper :).

Until sony releases more info, I'd suggest that you folks not speculate too much. If you get your hopes up too high right now, not only will you have ideas for a wacky console that will never exist, but you will also be severely disappointed when the final product comes out.

Is this like a wish-list or something? Is any of it confirmed?

The reason I ask is the "obliterate the 60fps standard" line... quite simply, that's impossible. 60fps is all that a standard television will push, period. It cannot go any higher, ever. The only way you'd get a higher frame-rate is if you hooked it into a computer monitor, which runs on an entirely different system. As far as I know, even HDTV's and digital TVs are still limited to 60fps (even though it would be 60p instead of the current 60i).

If this IS confirmed "news", would you mind posting a link to where you read it?

I believe its called Blue-sun discs with 20GB of storage or no the technology is too new to be trusted in a console....as For pics i took some from my OPM unfortunately i dont have a working scanner so i used my camera and then darkened them as much as i could so you could easily see it...\

blu-ray is capable of I *think* 50+ gigs per disk. It's been around for nearly a year now and it's relatively reliable. It's just that low production numbers are making the drives rediculously expensive - $4000+ apiece.

really?! wow i just found out about it in OPM about 6months ago if i could remember which issue i would look for the actual details but im too lazy and will forget anyways!.....Soooo what do all yall think of the pic of the PS3 sorry i kno poor quality...its the best i got....

Well, at this point it's just an artist's concept.. Sony hasn't released anything official about the PS3, except that it's in the works, a very basic run-down of how it's processors will operate, and the fact that it'll use Blu-Ray discs for games. While Blu-Ray drives may be expensive now, the price will come down considerably once Sony starts mass-producing them, making them viable for use in the PS3. It will give them an interesting edge, since Blu-Ray is Sony-owned technology, meaning none of the other game systems (Xbox2, and whatever Nintendo's next console will be) will have it, they'll have to rely on something else, or stick with the current technology.

......Yaaaa......ooook well its in development so its not just a drawing and its not positive whether or not they'l use blue ray disks...they have a release date so i'd say its on the way pretty much so its no artist drawing....if you think about it thats very in depth considering the console is 2yrs away....

Actually, Sony did a press release a couple weeks ago stating that the PS3 would use Blu-Ray.

As for the drawing... I'll wait until I actually buy the thing.. Whenever I think about designs, I just look at the new Nintendo portable. Just a couple months away from release now.. they debuted the "final" design at E3.. then a couple months later, they totally redesigned it, all within just a few months of going into production. So whatever design they have now for PS3 probably won't hold all the way until release.

........Well this is my most up to date issue of OPM (i got it 4 days ago) so it covers everything up to a week ago or so, so if they were going to use blue ray they would have included it.

Actually, the latest issue of OPM is over a month old. It was up for sale the first week of September, which means it went to presses about a week prior to that, which makes the last week of August the "cutoff" for the relevant information. The announcment from Sony came after this isse was already on the shelf.

Or not, says it was dated first week of August:

Speaking of that last issue of OPM, how 'bout that so-called "E3 Trailer" for GT4, eh? Next issue's got the playable MGS3, though. :)

The next issue has the MGS3 demo? Damn! I thought they said it was this next issue (I didn't get my OPM magazine yet)? Poop.

It sounds like I should provide this link one more time. Please go there to read up on Blu-ray devices. It will clear a lot of misinformation in that article.

www.blu-ray.com

The BD, Blu-ray device, will have only one optical head. The PS2 had two, and it's the main reason why the PS2 had so many DREs. The BD will read CDs, DVDs and the Blu-ray discs, which still may, or may not have a case. Sony, and the rest of the major electronic manufactures, are hard at work trying to solve the big problem of scratched and dirty discs causing DREs.

It will not, however, be a recordable BD, which was earlier thought. The manufactures tackled the idea of a recordable BD at the same time as a ROM BD, but it looks like the recordable BDs will hit the mass market in the year 2006. However, some electronic manufactures already have recordable BDs available for purchase, including Sony.

Seeing as Sony are the only ones that will be using the Blu-Ray drive, it will give them an enormous advantage over the competition. The only way for Microsoft or Nintendo to compensate will be to use multiple DVD's(wich would suck big time).
But Microsoft may have an edge over Sony with their XNA wich allows them to develop games in a shorter time and Sony have said that their games will have a longer development time cause they will all be huge games.

So let's see how it stands right now:
Sony PS3:
-Cell(ranking at 45th position in the category of strongest supercomputers on earth, based on available information)
-XDRAM(8 time the speed of current DDRAM running @6.4 Ghz)
-Bly-Ray(50 Gigabyte of data)

Microsoft X-Box 2:
Well, not much is know except that it will support Microsoft's XNA and something called X-Box TV wich is something like spectator mode allowing people that aren't currently in a game to watch other people play. There are also plans to make it compatible with PC's enabling players to play games using a PC and an X-Box 2 against eachother.

And Nintendo haven't said a word as to how or what their console will be like.

Now we know that the X-Box 2 won't have Blu-Ray,XDRAM and it can't be more powerfull then the Cell so how do they plan on beating Sony,i don't think they will.

Viper Zero
The Next Xbox would probably use HD-DVD.
Actually, you never know. Sony did add Microsoft's VC-1 video codec to Blu-ray, and remember, Sony is just part of a list of manufactures who help developed BDs, much like with the cell. But, that could just be for the PCs that BDs plan to be in, but you never know.

That all sounds good, but it's like someone telling me that Honda is going to up the power in the S2000 to 300HP / 280TQ, and drop the price to $25,000. Do you really believe it?

Check this out for a hella cool idea. A black eight inch cube with the PS3 and Sony logos, three lights, power, standby, and disk access, on top. A power plug, an ethernet jack, four USB ports, and a video output, all in a small recessed cluster on the bottom of the back side. And a fan vent center on the back pannel, with intake vents on the bottom sides.

Inside you get all the latest and greatest console guts, with a huge 250GB drive, Bluetooth adaptor, WiFi adaptor, and FM tuner (just for good measure). Games are downloaded from the internet via broadband. Unlimited wireless controllers connect via bluetooth. And additional devices such as USB wheels / disk drives / cameras / printers all connect via the four USB ports on the back.

$500. Eat your heart out Microsoft and Nintendo.

I should work for Sony.

my OPM came with mgs3 demo....(issue 86)

You have a subscription, then? Last I heard, Issue 86 isn't going to be on newsstands until next week sometime. Although I do get my EGM a week or so before newsstands, since I have a subscription.

If it IS on newsstands, let me know, so I can go get it! :)

So how's the MGS3 demo? Start up a new thread about it! :)

Yes i have a subscription! I highly recomend it! its not cheap mine was like 89$ but its 12 issues all with demo disks and then to renew the subscription its only like 20$a yr after that

Speaking of the demo disc, the OPM site mentions that the "Track GT4" feature in Issue 86 will go into the online features of the game. It would be.. interesting.. if that's still the case.
