Hi folks, as you know playstations are known for playing music. What about the PS4 being used as a hub for downloading music from Sony etc, then send the music to a DAC and play it through your own hi-fi speakers ?.

Nath.

Why do you have to wait for the PS4 to do that? I have an external drive with music on it running to my 6.1 setup.

It's instead of using a laptop and you can play music whenever you want.I was just thinking you could have a Playstation remote with a lcd display showing a list of your music, that you can play at a touch of a button.

I already have one of them, it's amazing.

Why just that? Sony is going the connect everything to each other route among their product lines. I wouldn't doubt you'd be able to stream music from the PC to the console, and to the mobile phone and even to the TV when the PS4 has been out for awhile.

You can do that with the ps3, so I imagine the ps4 will have that at launch.

So we're playing guessing games as to which features the PS4 will and will not have again, eh?

I'd rather feed a DAC with FLAC files which I doubt Sony offers for download or streaming. But if its for background music do whatever is easiest for you.

This can be a stand alone music player or a hub for storing and playing through your hi-fi.

This kind of stuff has been around for years. And the remote part isn't anything new either, as most all smart phones have apps to remote manage streaming services on other devices.
