I recieved a phone call last night from a buddy who asked me if I seen this in the PSN forum.I replied that I am not a member of the PSN forum and would not have seen this.So I went poking around in the PSN forums and found this.I checked with a Mod first before posting a new thread about this particular find.He is not fully convinced,I don't feel 100 % convinced. So as a forum, what do you think about this find.Anyone have any insight of it's validity or are we being hoaxed ?

Read the part where it says "note" especially.

Thanks guys for any input you may have. 👍

So this message is being sent out to people that only opt to receive correspondence from Sony but will effect everyone. Sony would send this sort of email out to everybody as it would effect their service. Don't you think people would be a bit peeved if their account was suddenly locked and told they needed to pay to play without warning. Sony aren't this stupid.

Complete Hoax. Same as the PSN spam about possible charges and forwarding it around to stop them. All of this is made up and I'm getting seriously tired of whoever decided to dream up this rubbish.

Perusing the US Playstation boards, it seems like a hoax of chain letters, and logically is seems to me that Sony certainly couldn't risk doing so now that the PS3 is on the up and up. I wouldn't put any faith into the rumors.

There's also chain mail going around which claims that the message is tracked somehow and if it's sent 500,000 times (as a protest) then PSN will remain free.

Smells like some grade A 🤬 to me.

I'm sure if this was real, everybody in the world would know about it! Game sites would probably know something before Sony sent any emails out!

This.

Also, I'm a member of the Playstation boards and get emails that are related to my PS3 account. Haven't got this.

Also, the image is full of jpg artefacting where the text has been manually entered. And seems to be in Arial, whereas the PS sites are always in Helvetica.

I think it's one big Hoax. And why such a big fee all of a sudden. Here in Europe it would be like 50 euros :S

LOL you should be on csi with that noticing of detail.

I am leaning on the idea that this may be a falsehood as with the rest of you.Great job on spotting the text C.S.I Gil Famine Grissom or is it Horatio Famine Cain ?

Lets look at something for a few minutes,please......

Suppose, just suppose that one day you turn on your PS3,you go to sign in,you get a message saying that you need to update your account information, which ultimately leads to this. What would be your reaction ?

A) Would you pay to play ?
B) Would you say,no way,I refuse to pay to play ?

I had some a discussion with a friend today concerning this.Who's to say that Sony would not implement this ? Can it really be overlooked as "it will never happen" ? Lets look at Micro$oft's X-Box for a second. How much $$$ is Micro$oft pulling in on a yearly basis on their "pay to play"? If any of you have any inclination on how much they may be pulling in,please feel free to pipe in.Now,lets assume that some corporate big wig at Sony see's how much Mico$oft is pulling in and gets a brainstorm that,"hey, people obviously are willing to pay to play, why can't we jump in on this and get a piece of this pie".........free money for Sony ? They are in business to make money, correct ?

I for one, certainly hope that Sony will never do this.I would like to think that Sony would like to remain 1 up on Micro$oft by continuing their "free play".

I would if they made it worth it. Although I am not a fan of the 360(I was until my 2nd broke),they have done an excellent job with XBL.

I certainly wouldn't pay, it's part of the reason I bought a PS3 over an Xbox, that and the exclusives that appealed to me most were, as I've grown up with PlayStations, PS3 exclusives. Namely Gran Turismo most importantly of course, there's no 360 exclusive that would sway me, Forza is closest, but I have always prefered GT and will likely continue to do so. To the point, I'd let my account disapear rather then pay, and then still have to pay for DLC and such on top of that. I buy a game that supports online pay, I want to be able to play it online without paying more. DLC and other bits I can live without, online play is all I really want PSN for.

I have to say I would pay. The quality of gaming that I can have with you guys and on GTA4 is well worth the price.

But think of this:

How many people decided to go buy a PS3 instead on an Xbox because of the free online accounts? It certainly helped sway my friends (who aren't so GT savvy).

I'd pay a $49 once off fee. They could make the base console $49 cheaper, and then people who don't want to play online wouldn't have to pay for functionality they don't use.

Also, spelling Microsoft with a "$'' is super lame.

Last night was the first time in 2 months that i used my ps3 again and received tons of these PSN FOR FREE messages.
I didn't forward any messages to anyone in my list, cause i never do that with chain letters and i dont think that this has any effect anyways!

Chris

No No No No - I already pay for the internet - I don't want to have to pay extra to use it.

@chris - Good work - The non propogation of anything vaguely chain lettery can only be a good thing.

I ain't buying it at all. Good job at the text though because I was the PSN Forums just before I typed this.

I voted depends on the cost. A max of $20 for lifetime online play for ALL of my accounts on this ps3 and a slightly improved service.

I voted depending on the cost. As said before, the level of racing enjoyment had with people on this site makes we want to pay, and I would, but only if it isn't something rediculous like $100

Part of the reason I went with a PS3 is because I don't have to pay. If I did, I would expect an online experience like XBL or better, and for less money as I think MS is ripping their users off anyways. Paying to play online and then not even connecting to a server is BS in my opinion. Sony has a winner with its online (dedicated servers with a decent for free online experience) and they would be a fool to lose it.

As much as I wish free PSN access would continue,I believe it is just a matter of time before there will be a charge of some sort. Will I pay? Never say never, but it depends on how much the cost.

No, absolutely not. I have no american credit cards, and PSN doesn't support jamaica, which is why I used my uncle's address ,so i'd just have to rely on the offline play of games to survive. God I hope it's fake.

I went with a reluctant "yes". I think that if PSN ever implements this, the fees have to be looked at.A one time shot of $50.00,I can deal with.Paying $50.00 a year ***cough***Microsoft***,will be a little more hard to swallow, but would probably bite the bullet and do it.
