Maybe it's just me - but the rendering quality seems to have really suffered with this new update.

All textures seem to be softer (or 'lower-resolution'). Trackside signs, number plates, everything really. The edges on the car doors frames windows and in the show rooms are really really sparkling.

Go to the Aston Martin showroom and look at the screen with the 2 cars spinning. It's not as good as last week. Models are fantastic, but shaders for the lights seem worse, sills, grills and edges seem worse across the board.bad,

I wonder if they've had to concede some detail to get back frame rate. Some of the frame outs in multiplayer when just playing on the "spec I" game were pretty bad, but it's quite a drop in quality in my view.

I'm playng on a 720p Sony TV so there will be some scaling artifacts but still -the whole game looks worse.

Maybe its just me.....

I don't think it's just you.

I have both versions, one JP unupdated, and one EU updated and the quality is really downgraded IMHO.

Also, when you are driving all alone in Free Run mode, the quality seems OK, but then you go to a 16 cars race in the same track and you quickly notice something different, worst.

It still looks great. I rather have little worse quality so that to have 16 cars in a race, not 6-8 .
I think its a smart move to have better frame rate.

i didnt notice any difference but did you guys notice a "lag" when there are several cars on the screen/ some dust/smoke action going on? I dont know what the cause of this could be..i disabled full RGB /super white/ cross color effect thingie in the ps3 settings but there are still "lags".. could it be that my samsung panel is too slow with 8ms ?

I've noticed also while driving, but in a good way because it seems to have removed most of the jaggies you see. It hasn't bothered me too much, since the replays still look awesome.

You don't need to disable the effects on the PS3. 8ms or 4ms, I don't think it will worsen or improve the FPS that much

I agree the framerate issue is important, but not in the front end screens. Very odd. To me - I wish they just had a native 720p mode. I bet that would have fixed most of the framing out issues. 1080p AND 60 fps is an extravagence. A nice tick on the box, but it comes with compromises I'd rather not suffer. I have Formula 1 Championship Edition too and it's 720p 30fps and it's still a very good experience. I'd rather have seen 720p/60 with no frame out's for GT5P.

The Guys still have a full year to go before the Release, They will still Improve the FPS dramatically. I don't worry.

Well, GT4 had texture quality downgraded from GT4:P... Using the same logic, the same will happen in GT5. Downgrade things is the way to go LOL

I noticed slowdown earlier today on Daytona... I thought that was a thing of the past, but alas it isn't.

You know I did notice a slight downgrading of graphics with this new update, especially in garage view... everything looks a bit hazy or blurry.... maybe its on purpose but the cars looked a lot crisper before the update. I have the JPN version BTW.

Do some cars look like they have had less work put into them than others?.. some cars look like they have just been ported from GT4 and jazzed up a bit whilst new cars to the series seem to have a lot more attention to detail.... and I the only one seeing this?

A good example is something like the DB9... it doesn't looks graphically impressive as lets say the GTR because it was in GT4 and they just probably uprated the textures rather than starting again from scratch...

Actually I've noticed it also, after updating the JPN ver. I can see slight downgrade, but I wouldn't worry too much I'm sure that will be fixed.

I can't imagine the old 5k poly models being any use what-so-ever if they plan on making most cars 200k poly. I'm sure they started from scratch with each car but yes, perhaps they put more detail into some cars than others.

GT5p is totally new code. But, I've only noticed good things... 'softer' gas/brake 'pedals' on 6-axis with more sensitivity and better sound, especially the Mustang. It sounds awesome. I feel a slight physics tweak too, counter-steering is easier. For the rev-happy, rev limiter has quite the knockdown, punishing poorly timed shifts. PDI seems to have improved on many 'gripes', not that I had any before. I feel specII is worth another $40, and I suspect many post more than they play. Chill... what they're doing has never been done before, how bout some threads on things they 'managed to do right'? Heres one, 'cockpit view better than before'. Keep it real...

yes, Kaz himself have said they've started from scratch with all cars..

IMO, I think the Graphics engine in GT5 prologue is FLAWED. heres why:
The frame rate drops during replays, an almost unacceptable occurence judging by the last 2 gran turismo games to be released with replays @ a smooth 60 Frames per second. PD put entirely TOO much detail into prologue, it almost looks too crisp and almost fake at times, especially during the upscaled replays, which is why I'm assuming now that they are realizing that it needs to get downgraded to keep the racing smooth.

Another point:
Remember the "vision gran turismo" video, with the hundreds of spectators, moving around, and frantic pit crews? I remember that, but I sure as hell havent seen anything near that amount of animation in the backgrounds. I'll admit the backgrounds are impressive in prologue, with plenty of moderately animated spectators, but they're still no where near as involved and animated as what was shown in the video.

There is absolutly NO reason why PD should Up-scale the replays either, ( a huge contributer to the frame rate drops )
The racing action itself is not 60 fps the whole time either. Argue with me all day if you like, its not 60fps. Look closely to buildings passing by...there are hickups... both racing, and replays should be 60 fps, its a GOLD standard for fluid and realistic visuals (and real camera video of racing on tv is 60fps video camera, (not the 24 fps motion picture speed)
Racing is not a motion picture blockbuster. so WHY! PD! why would you upscale replays, its already pissed me off too much to even watch my replays.

My 2 cents.

PD has another year to smooth it to a solid 60fps if they see fit, and or get a better graphics code developed etc. etc. I hope they get a nice balance of smooth gameplay, and MUCH needed smoother replays, I know they havent let us down before.

knowing them, i'm sure they're working very very hard to fix that. maybe that's why we only have the prologue right now and maybe that's why it's taking so long for the final version. we have to remember it's only a demo basically. i rather the full game taking so long rather than end up like need for speed pro street, which is a total rush job. can't even call it run of the mill.

They just knocked the ceiling of ps3's raw power and now they will be optimizing bit after bit. They have one year at least to solve it and I believe them like to nobody else. 60fps is must and I rather see better textures than better AA and better smoke and weather effects for fair cost of only 40.000 polygons on each car.

he robin,i also have the jpn version and noticed the same thing after the update....i fixed it a little by lowering the britness on my hdtv....it seems that they brighted up the whole picture a bit and so it will look a bit hazy if you use the same tv settings as before the download....:)

It does seem that they put more detail in to some and not others... and the trend seems to be that new cars to the series like the Ferraris are a lot higher detail.... its not super important especially when on the track but I guess they have to save time in the dev process somewhere!, especially if the have to do interiors for each one..

Or maybe its that one rendering team is better than the others... the PD placement students did the worse looking ones!

Im glad im not the only one seeing this! 👍 yeah it does seem like its a tad brighter which is good on a track like London but its a bit worrying that the cars are hazy but maybe its meant to be anti aliasing... It seems more apparent in the dealership screens than on the track.

The same thing happened between GT4 Prologue and GT4.. they downgraded the graphics probably due to having more content.

Was GT4's graphics downgraded from GT4 Prologue? I wonder if you can state some examples. I'm curious to know.
IMO, the cars look more detailed and overall graphics enhanced. Am I wrong?

Can someone Snap 2 HIGH res pictures? One beofer the Update, and one after?
And get same car, same location.

True, I did same thing.
