PSP, would you say it's worth it?

The price is the main reason I havn't looked into one. Sure, it's a pretty neat bit of kit, but down in Australia, a PSP is 400$, a DS is 180$, PS2 about $230.

On top of the $400, you need a bigger memory card, even off eBay a homebrand 1gb is about $100. And then, you need to buy games! That's another 100$ at least onto the total and you're looking at about 600$, probably over half the price of a PS3!

Playing PSone games is pretty cool. But if I wanted to play PSone games, I'd play them at home. But I don't, because they generally arn't as good as PS2 games. Any PS1 game I'd think about getting I've probably clocked anyway.

If I want portable gaming, I just whip out my old N-Gage (One of which I could probably buy off eBay for 50$) and still be able to play games like Tomb Raider, Sonic and The Sims.

That's because the 360 is loading a boatload of data, compared to the PSP.
But it's a next-generation console. It should be loading as quick as a PS2/Xbox, not be slower than a PSP in some cases.

But having said that, both load quicker and slower than each other at times, exactly like the PS2/Xbox are like.

PSone games is a good idea, but what's the point? Gaming should be moving forward, not re-treading old ground. Most PSone games suck anyway by todays standards, with the exception of MGS and silent hill.

What about battery life no one has mentioned anything about that average 3-4hrs or less? (I'm thinking of getting one not sure whether it is worth £200)

Yeah, it is about 3-4 hours, just depends on what games you play. GTA is about 1 1/2 hours though.

It's still loading a lot more data than the PS2/Xbox, and I don't think the 360 loads any slower than the previous-gen consoles, except in a few rare cases.

That's another thing I forgot to mention again. With my DS, I get 8-10 hours of battery life. With my PSP, even on full charge, I can only take it for 1-3 hour trips, and then I'd have to charge it. Every time I took it somewhere, I'd have to charge it right after. I can't take it on multiple trips at a time, like I easily can with my DS. And with that short of battery life, that almost defeats the point of being portable, if I have to charge it all the time.

Umm... the max price of DS games are $35. And almost all PSP games are $50. That's a $15 difference, not $5. With $100, I can get 2 PSP games, or I can get 3 DS games that are more fun to play with (ok ok, the DS games total would be $105, not $100 with the PSP games).

Did you even read what I said? Sony games are $39.99. Nintendo published games are at most $34.99. $5 dollar difference. I dont own one $50 game and never will. Just saying.

Yes donbenni i remember now and it is cool but there has to be somehting you liked about it. But still some are still missing what I'm saying about personal VS general opinions. your frist impression was not a lasting one like so many. But for me its still there, sort of since all i did was emulation on the go and that was well worth it at the time.

In my opinion - Indeed... All the little Gizmo needs is a small keyboard to chuck around. Then I wouldn't need to bring a laptop.. It has replaced the MP3 and portable CD player...

Here in Arizona, most PSP and PS2 games are $49.99. Most DS games here are $34.99. Of course, there are exceptions, with some PSP games being $40 or $30 as you mentioned, but the bulk of PSP games here are $50.

The bulk at gamestop are games less than $50. www.gamestop.com to check if you like. most games are less than $50. Fewer new games come out at $50. Besides the best games are $40 or less.

Hmm... you're right. I've been checking Amazon for the game prices, and most games were $50 there. :indiff:

Guess game prices were better than I thought. :ouch:

And you've played every game to know that? I have played only a few and all have been worth the price($40 or less) to me.

Street fighter Alpha 3 for GBA was $34 brand new its cost $5 more for psp and is wolrds better. I know I owned both versions and paid full price.

Ok maybe i haven't played them, but i still don't think that games that are inferior to PS2 games should cost (almost) the same as them. I think all games cost too much really, not just PSP games. PC games are so much cheaper. I picked up F.E.A.R (new) for just £15, about $27. Is there a reason PC games are so cheap? I'm not sure.

Farcry for Xbox360 is $60 new! Its going to be pain in the pocket book for next gen games.

But games like Syphon Filter for PSP is better than the PS2 version by a long shot and cost the same. Katamari does in fact cost more on psp and offers slightly less gameplay I'll admit. But not all games are the same.

I don't use my psp for games.

Remote for winamp? Check. Photo storage? Check. Internet abroad? Check. Movies? Check.

Right now I'm thinking of making a RSS stream over my lan to stream all my music to my psp.. games? pfft.

But at least they're worth it. For $60, you pretty much hours and hours and hours of gameplay, spectacular graphics, awesome online play (with no lag), etc.

But i dont think most of the games are worth the extra $10. Oblivion is $10 more for a game less valuable than the PC version. I'm not going to get deep into it but you seem to think every 360 game that is $60 is worth it.

Most of them are worth it.

And heck, my PC can't even play a simple John Deere game properly. And if I had a halfway decent gaming PC to play games decently, the graphics on Oblivion would be still worse than the 360 version. Unless I had some 1337 PC rig that has can play the game in the same graphics as the 360 version, I'd get the 360 version (but I don't really have a choice anyway).

I think the $10 in rise for 360 games are because there's a lot more eye candy, and probably since they can do it.

All im trying to say is most of them are not worth it. When I say most I mean looking at the full list of available $60 games from a percentage based opinion from professional and reader reveiws most are not worth it.

Make me list of $60 games that are worth it and a list of all $60 games.

Now that will be influenced by personal opinion. Personally, I don't really think MLB 2006 for the 360 (nor for the PS2, or the Xbox, nor for the PSP) is worth it, but there are other people who will play it 5 hours a day, and will beg to differ. I haven't played every game, and it's previous-gen counterpart, so I'm not qualified to judge what's worth it and what's not.

I don't think 360 games should cost any more than PS2 games, as their just dual layer DVD's aren't they? Some PS2 games are DL and they still cost the same.

Well the PSP value pack has dropped to about £150 worth it or not? What do you guys think

Nope not really.
Unless you get the gigapack thing with a usb cable and spend an extra $200 for a bigger memory stick.
32 MB is NOT enough for songs or video.

I checked on the gamestation website it said it was £150, for the value pack sounds good.

I was planning to buy a 2gb memory stick on ebay, I'd have to buy the usb cable too, still not worth it??

I use my usb cable that came with my Digital camera. I'll be getting a gig stick soon just for mp3s and video clips. my 256 will be good for games and content.

I don't think that £150 is that great, i mean the Wii is gonna cost less than that.

the PSP value pack i think it's called is $399 here

does the mega pack have a USB cable?, or do you have to get the giga pack?, which i don't know how much it costs

Someone i know at school's got a PSP

does anyone that lives in Australia know how much a giga pack costs?
