Yeah, you have to understand that sometimes, the lapped car is also in a battle for position and doesn't want to give anything up.

Normally, I find a safe spot and let the leaders go asap, but if there's a guy 5 seconds ahead of me who I'm trying to catch, I wont be so willing to slow myself down just to let you go. This happened at a race at Laguna Seca once, when Paul and myself were battling, when suddenly the leader came at the absolute wrong time late in the race, passed me and I wasn't able to make up the time lost in time.
 
If you're chasing a car 5 seconds ahead of you, you can bet that he wil also be slowed down once the driver who lapped you catch up to him a lap or 2 later. The trick is to loose as little time as possible.. The faster the faster car is let by, the less time will be lost your end imo.
Always, always, always leave room for a faster drivr to lap you. And make sure to make your intentions obvious as well and we're all good. 👍

Remember, failure to adhere/recognize/acknowledge a blue flag, no matter your current racing situation, is subject to review by the panel of FIA judges which usually means you are effed. :)
 
Yeah, in the situation where you're chasing someone and a guy comes up to lap both of you, just slow down as fast as you can still because the guy's gonna lap the guy ahead of you as well, and either the same thing will happen (which then brings you two right back to where you were before) or the guy puts up a fight and slow down both of themselves. So you should always move over asap.
 
LOL, exactly Brosif.. Chasing a car 5 seconds ahead of you is not a valid reason to not let a faster driver who's about to lap you by.. 👍

Oh and speaking of the FIA, way to ban reactive ride height. I guess Kimi will just have to rely on his superior driving ability to slay the toro rojo diablo. :)

Ive sometimes used leaders lapping me (back on the unrealistic sliptreame) to catch the person I was chasing and it has worked I just cant remember what race it was :p.

I feel really bad for the fat cars at this race. The extra weight may really mess with your tire strategy.
 
What hills? :) The ring is perfectly flat, like most of America's attempts at making race courses.
 
Well the long curved straight is uphill im pretty sure and a few other areas have uphill sections. Either way 120kgs for Tony is going to kill his top speeds.
 
I like my car fat. Fat means I did good. :D

Paul, weight affects acceleration much more then top speed.
 
So my car being heavy is a problem, too? To be honest I thought this would be a good race for the Castrol Supra, minus the final long straight.
 
Gv not sure 20kgs extra than the Lexus and GTR will make much difference more like the weight Tony Wii and CSL have will affect top speed ;).

paulmac2k9, weight is not affecting top speed at all imo. 20-100 kg is nothing once your speed is up.. It's the acceleration that's affected.
 
It will probably cut top speed down for Tony 2-3mph, and me 1-2mph.
 
I am losing about a quarter of my tires a lap so three laps will be my limit. It should be interesting for the fatties and the NSXs.

Yeah, I would love to have Barber, Road Atlanta, Road America, and Mid-Ohio (in no particular order). And of course, Watkins Glen.
 
Ok then but my reason for thinking this is in BTCC going from 0-45kgs affects the cars top speeds ;). (And thats on our small Uk tracks :p)
 
hmm... you know American tracks are kinda flat aren't they. The Glen is flat, Road America is pretty flat, Lime Rock is flat, Sebring is an air strip, VIR is flat...
All I can think of is that Road Atlanta has that nice down hill ess section, Infineon has a bit of up and down, Thunderhill is a roller coaster, and of course:

short-track = accelerating all the time
terminal velocity on long straights is what they're talking about
