Putting together my Drift Video

Hey guys,

I while ago i was trying to drift in gt3 like crazy, but i could never get it to do what i wanted, so I was about to give up. Then I happened upon the drift video section of this website and my jaw dropped. I saw some of the most beautiful drifts i have ever seen, and they looked so effortless. That gave me all the inspiration for picking up the controller again and training like mad to drift the way they do, so I have you guys to thank for the video I am about to make. I made about 20 replays of my drifts with different cars like the Vanquish, GT40, AE86 s.s., NSX, 300Z, Evo 7, RX-7, RX-8, and the 350Z. My favorite car to drift in is the Impreza LM Racecar because drifting is easy with a controller and you can do some crazy drifts with that thing. For instance, I have a replay from Trial Mountain. I started drifting at the beginning of that first tunnel and I drifted all the way down the straightaway to the first turn and reversed the drift around that turn. And right after that, after that slow left turn, I drifted all the way around that right turn and reverse drifted through the second tunnel. I'm definitely putting that in the video.

This is my first time making a video, so I made this thread to ask for suggestions from ppl who made videos. I'm probably gonna put some initial d music to it, but I'm not sure how I should time the drift clips or pretty much anything like that. Please, ANY suggestions would be appreciated.

Happy drifting.

Just take you time with it; don't just throw it together in day. Tweak it and tweak it till it's perfect. Use lots of transitions, lots of different cars, and lots of different tracks. Also if you find yourself thinking “humm I wonder if this drift is good enough to put in my movie?” the answer is always no. If you have to think about it then you probably know you can do better. Make sure the drifts you put in are your best. And I would advise against initial d music. I do like it a lot, maybe more than a lot, but only because of Initial d, If Initial didn’t exist I probably would not like the music, or at least I would not get the same feeling while listening to it, that’s just my opinion though. Find a song that you don’t know too well, but really like, cus you going are the have to listen to it over, and over, and over again to get the timing right. Anyways have fun, watch some more movies and see what looks good at what doesn’t, and then figure out what you want to do,.

Anyways have fun, and check out my movie the link is in my sig.

How many drift replays did you hafta make to put together your video? I have about 25 replays with an average of 2 excellent drifts per replay.

That all depends how long the movie is (meaning the song), and how long the drifts are. If you don't have enough drifts make more. I don't think I had more than 25 different replays for my movie but that’s just a guess. Some of them I had spent a lot of time trying to drift the whole track, so every corner was good.

What video editor are you using?

hey hope your video goes good you know, man if i have broadband or fast internet connection, you be seeing my fast drifting video with my cars, i use super soft tires and turns over 70 MPH on corners, i love drifting you know, im finish with my Twin Drifting Video and now doing the Single speed drifting video because the Twin drift is kind of slow, because we have to stay together and single is me and my friend go the fastest turn and drift very fast, onces you see it, we dont tend to fast forward anything, so im waiting to be download in my cousin's house whenever i go there!!!!!!!!!!

GOOD LUCK on your video.. I AM trying to make a video myself, first i want to ask if you will be doing different tracks besides MIDFIELD, APRICOT. Now i love these tracks, i lost my virginity there. but some variation is appreciated...... your car selection sounds nice and unique, so im looking forward to seeing it. this is not an attack just some advice.
Oh one last thing, i think each and every one of us who posts an edited vid (cut-up) should also have to post one vid of themselves drifting an entire track of their choice; it shows continuity and is much more jaw dropping. A LOT OF TIMES I WONDER...... what happened after he did that.... did he slip??? bang the wall???
WORD good luck though, & thanks for reading my boring post.

I would love to put up a single lap, I was thinking of doing it as an instructional video. First we see the replay from the out side then the settings, then a replay from the drivers point of view with all the indicators on so people can see what is going on. I had a few vids like that already, I fell on to them on a Korean site, which I don’t have anymore but they were pretty good.

The only thing is, I had a lot of trouble getting my vids online, it took a lot of time and a lot of email’s to Jordan to get vids up. Even now one of my vids is still not directly in the drifting video section and it’s been a few months since I sent them. So if you know of any easier way to get the vids online I would be happy to do it. I just don’t really want to bother Jordan anymore.

I want to upload my video so much! It's already been like a month and a half since I finished editing it and I can't show it to the community! It's so annoying because I have 56K and it takes so long

Are there any good places to put big files like videos and let people download it?

I tried to use different tracks, but I think the majority of the drifts are performed on midfield and trial mountain cuz those are my favorite tracks. I was wondering what prog you guys used to make these videos cuz I found that the res looks crappy when I full screen a video I made, and if I wanna give it higher res, the size of the file goes up bigtime. I was wondering if there is a good program to make a vid into divx form.

BTW, did you guys take a look at the 350z on ss5 at night? Wow, a head on view is awesome.

YO TRUENO?????? sounds good instructional video!! i like... i was thinking COMPLEX STRING (too long??) seeing as how its got every turn in the game you will ever encounter!! its got sweepers, bends, blind turns, etc...
I was thinking about a contest like in JAPAN. cept we aint got no judges and hence there would be no winner.lol all for fun...
THERE should be a set track (besides MIDFIELD or APRICOT) so as to keep the contest constant.... but the person could use any car to there liking seeing as how we are drifting not comparing times. JUST THOUGHT IT WOULD BE COOL... whats good with the instructional vid though??? how are you going to go about that??
need help? dont know how much i can be but ive got alot of interesting stuff on my memoey card just itching to be put on display.

I was thinking of putting up something that I already had, I have a supra drifting every corner quite nicely on SS5 wet. It takes a long time to get ever corner perfect it would take me a few days, I’m sure to get complex string perfectly, I just don’t play that much any more.

For the instructional vid I would just keep it very simple no dialog or anything. Just have 2 replays, one from the regular replay angles and one from the driver’s point of view with all the indicators on, that’s about it. It would just be one lap so i wouldn't need any extra stuff, but thanks. Also i don't have a shark port so it would be hard to transfer the files. I have no room left on the hd to capture anthing im not sure when it will be done, if ever.

sounds good, LET US KNOW WHEN YOU MAKE IT.. SS5 is a good track to show, especially in wet... its got good corners that you have to set up for...

Hey, do any of you guys know a good song to do the video to? I'll take any kind of suggestions cuz i don't listen to music that often. The more suggestions the better :)

Okay so my one lap video is done, it's didn't take very long to make; I didn't have to really do anything special. Anyways now I just have to find a place to put it.

Every one has different taste in music; good to one person is terrible to another. I'm sure you have heard a song or 2 that you find interesting? Go with your gut, I think it’s more important that you like the song rather then anyone else. At first you wanted to put in Initial D music, so if that's what you want so be it, there is nothing wrong with that.

If you want some good "techno" tracks to put to the video, I can help you out.

(think of the new Midnight Racer II TV commercials)
