Here is a little side game I invented in GT3 when I got so stupid good that the AI drivers couldn't provide me any challenge any more. I call it pylon soccer and it's a freakin' blast as well as some additional challenge for your driving skills. Here's how it works.
1) Enter an endurance race or create a long race in Arcade mode. (you'll need the laps for this) Choose a slightly overpowered car for the field because you may be slowing down some.
2) On your way around the track the first time, smack into the pylons around pit row, or where ever they may be on the track, knocking some out onto the road.
3) On every subsequent lap, spot the pylon of your choice and ram it again, sending it further down the track. Try to keep as much of your speed as you can while still in control enough to spot and hit the pylon. The faster you hit'em, the further they fly.
4) See how many laps it takes you to knock the pylon all the way around the track up to and past it's original position.
5) See how many laps you can make the pylon do around the course, while still maintaining your lead and winning the race.

This won't work on all courses, as there is too much grass and dirt on many courses to be any good. You need to choose a really enclosed course. Any of the city courses in GT4 will do the trick, as well as places like High Speed Ring, Midfield, Deep Forest, whatever ya think is enclosed enough that you can track your pylon.

This may sound really dumb, but ya gotta do something to add to the challenge(NOT) of the game's AI. Let me know what you think if you try it.

GGG-OOOOO-OOOOO-OOOAAAA-AAAAAALLLLLLLL!!!!!!!

LOL I thought I was the only one bored enough to do that. I remember once on the Speedway 100 lap race getting one pilon around the track at least 5 times... :) In GT4 the pilon graphics are better so you can get a good look at them in your windscreen as you flip them over the top. 👍

I did this in the rally races because the start line gave you 5 or 10 blue cones on each side of the course. Sometimes there were orange ones at the point dirt became pavement, or vice versa, so you could try to exchange them. The built in races weren't long enough in rally, though. Not far enough along in GT4 to play this yet.

Good. Its not just me that does this then!! There are some beauties along the straight on Lemans (without Chicanes) You can hammer them at well over 220MPH and watch them fly!!

Also, what is this "soccer" of which you speak? Is it anything like Football?

Sounds similar to the game I play - cone drifting.

Choose a cone (pylon) and see how far down the track you can hit it with one hit. Just to make it more interesting you can only hit the cone with the sides of your car. It's also a great way to practise snapping your car into oversteer for drfiting.

Famine, you ask a good question and make a good point,
who's the idiot? just some random internet pic?

I used to enjoy driving through the cones in GT3's rome reverse track thoufg i have'nt really done it on purpose in GT4

Just for the record, the Sports Car Club of America Solo II (autocrossing) rulebook refers to the plastic doodads we set out on parking lots or runways to mark a course as pylons. Perhaps American diction, but correct over here nonetheless. :)

Yep. Some strange gonk with a cone on his bonce.

wfooshee - That's the SCCA's problem. Weirdos. :D

Sorry for the English to English translation problems.

To clarify : pylon = cone
soccer = football ...and while we're at it......
trunk = boot
hood = bonnet
side view = wing mirror

... and finally.... over here a pat on the fanny means your backside ... not a chargeable offence!!! :scared: ROFL

Hope this helps, though it has nothing to do with the game.

Over here in the Netherlands pylon is the word we use for cones. So I guess different words are used in different countries, even if they all probably came from English words.

And football is being called soccer lately to avoid confusion caused by the Americans who made their own version of rugby and named it football (while feet are hardly involved...).

Soccer here in the USA is football for where you live.

From www.faqkids.com:
Why is the sport of football also called soccer?

Answer:
The word "soccer" actually comes from England, where the modern version of the game originated. In England, there were two types of football: rugby football and association football. The slang term for rugby football was "rugger," and the slang for association football was "assoc." The word "assoc" gradually evolved into "soccer," which was much easier to say. When association football was introduced to North America, gridiron football (the type played by the NFL and in the Super Bowl) was already well established. To avoid confusion, Americans adopted the British nickname "soccer" for the new sport.

Errr, no.

While "Soccer" is indeed a contraction of "Association Football", over here it has ALWAYS been Football and Rugby. NEVER Soccer. And in fact there's two types of Rugby - League and Union. Rugby is only called "Rugger" at certain public schools.

By the time American Football had got of the ground, colleges over there were already playing a bastardised version of Rugby Union.

Yeah, I play that. I t usually looks like this.

hah.. i've been doing that since GT3, only in GT3 i used the lotus as the target.. cause it was orange in the super speedway.. used it for target practice in the escudo. lol.. here's me playing kick-the-cone in GT4- my first car.. 1st generation Evo.. fuji speedway

that one i kept on the bumper for til i finished turning. lol then it went flying.. cause it was in mid-air most of the journey.

You can get them all the way around Laguna Seca...though I did have one cone completely disappear on the first left after the Corkscrew...

Baffled me, I stopped, drove around looking everywhere for it...just totally gone.

Wonder how long it would take to work one around the Nurburgring...the only cones I can think of are right by the Start Finish line, so anyone with a shot of a cone at say, Angstkurve, or Hohe-Act would have to have gotten it all the way out there the hard way.

Ok, thanks for telling me that. I originally thought what I posted above was true, but what you said made better sense.

Yes, I unforunately admit to having played this cone soccer game in GT3... Is it just me, or is the cone physics (how the cones actually bounce around) less detailed in GT4? I think so.

P.S. Americans using the term 'football' should be banned, as cleary, Americans cannot actually 'kick' a ball (foot or otherwise) very well or very accurately, nor is the act terribly common in American "football" (either type). As an Australian I feel more than justified to raise this point (AFL is a far more skillful game than any version of US "football", and doesn't require dressing up in a huge amounts of padding like nancies...). Most of the world (that plays soccer) will agree with me here.:sly:

Also, "pylon" is a perfectly acceptable substitute for the word "cone".

Meanings of the word "pylon":

n.
1. A steel tower supporting high-tension wires.
2. A tower marking a turning point in a race among aircraft.
3. A large structure or group of structures marking an entrance or approach.
4. A monumental gateway in the form of a pair of truncated pyramids serving as the entrance to an ancient Egyptian temple.

Number 3 should be valid enough. Looks like if the cones aren't really marking anything out (like a course or as a guide to any path etc) they aren't technically "pylons", but if they are (like in the context of a race track) its perfectly acceptable to refer to them pylons. A "cone" is just a description of a shape which has a conical form. Just as its fine to shorten "traffic cone" to simply "cone", its also fine (in the same manner) to shorten "electricity pylon" to simply "pylon". Hence its important to relax certain meanings in an international forum, and accept multiple meanings and contexts for either word, as both are valid.

Also, about "trunk" and "hood"... As its only America which uses "trunk" or "hood", in the interest of international communication (as is the context of this forum), only the most common (from each English speaking country) descriptive nouns should be used. If everyone were to use a truly international form of English, "boot" and "bonnet" would be de riquer, and "trunk" and "hood" would be, well, given the boot!:sly:

then in australia we play aussie rules (AFL) or football also.
more kicking with the foot than other versions of football (apart from "soccer" football)
and less whinging and pansie's than "soccer" football (read: david beckham)
anyway back on topic..
sounds like a little fun, always went out of my way to knock them around when i was in front by a bit.
forza has a little glitch where the cone's sit upside down and spin a little.... very odd

Probably trapped in the front air intake of the car you were driving and caused it to overheat. Also the same reasons someones Renault Clio could only go 120 mph in GT4.
It is called soccer because the poor people cant afford "football Boots" and thus play in "socks". JOKE guys.
In Australia we have soccer which is proper football, Rugby League which is league, Rugby Union which is rugby and finally Australian Rules Football that is called Aussie Rules and is a combination of all off the above games.
I used to try to push all the cones into Pit Lane at Super Speedway enduro in GT3. That one closest to the pit entry allways was hard.
This all sounds like the coffee breaks in GT4.
