Has anyone been quading? I go everytime I visit my Grandma in Scotland (UK) and it's great 👍

But if you like to feel safe with metal wrapped around you, plus a roll cage, this sport is not for you

On the dry stuff it's great with plenty of grip, yet last week (the first time I've gone in winter) it would be an understatement to say the treck was wet

The first half an hour

or so was good fun with only a few incidents of wheel spin

where I learned that how to get out of such situations. Then I had a minor accident (My first

Picture this: I'm riding along and the back end is very loose, my quad has worn tyres and the whole treck is basically a mud swamp, steering to counter this was frequent (locking in the direction of the rear). Then ahead is a steep climb which I make. And what comes with this steep climb but a very steep decent.

So I lean back to hold the rear down, and am prepared to brake strongly (To go down without braking is dangerous) I was ready to use an ABS pumping effect on the brakes as the wheels were bound to lock with the lack of grip....But no matter how prepared you are it's all slightly useless if your brakes don't work

Guess what? 💡 Yep my brakes failed, with no response what so ever..building up

speed very quickly and have 3 options:

Option 1: Go down, get the Quad sideways and hope to slow without flipping (Highly Likely and could end up with the quad flattening me)

Option 2: Go down straight turn for the corner and with the excess speed slide into a barbed wire fence :ouch:

Option 3: vere off the track

into a large bumpy field to my left. This seemed safest as the bumps would slow me down. I chose this option and after a few bumps I stopped >>>> Instantly

(The bikes front end had jammed into the field) I went flying off the bike and did a forward roll from mid air onto my back....

What would you have done?

Unharmed and pretty excited and perhaps alittle shaken if I'm honest that I'd had my first fall on a quad the supervisor rider came running accross. I explained what had happened with the brakes and he said (In a Scottish accent), 'Are you alright I thought you killed yourself'

Though I thought I'd made it clear my brakes were 🤬 we continued coming across some smaller hills, no brakes again but I stayed on. Then we went back to the Centre

and all the other 100cc-125cc quads were faulty..So I got on a 150cc with new brakes :D (Look forward to riding a 250cc, though they are more expensive to hire

)

If I hadn't had that better quad to compensate for the brakes on my first one I would have demanded a refund

, but it all ended well :smilewink

So anyone else got any motorsport accident stories?

uhh yea i guess i have a few. i go atv riding frequently as i have my own Honda 300ex that is bored out and has some other mods.

1. one of my best was when i was 8 this was when i had my little 80cc quad and i was riding it in an industrial building area and went flying through a field doing 35-40 when i hit a peice of iron rod that was sticking up out of the ground and i went flying about 20 feet with the quad still atached to me and did several flips. luckally i only got the wind knocked out of me and had a few cuts & bruises.

2. i was trail riding on my 300 and attempted to come out of a small stream and head up a 12-13 foot hill that was nearly straight up and down and to make it worse the hill had become very slick since someone had gone up before me. i nailed the gas and with the speed i had managed to get made my way up only to get half way over the top edge when i ran out of steam. and instead of thinking to grab the clutch to keep rear end from locking up i was more worried about bailing of the back and in doing this i landed in the stream on my back and the quad rolled back and the rear end locked up so it flipped back onto me.

3. i was running an oval in the winter and got a bit too side ways on the slick surface of the track and slid backwards into the gripy infield where the tires gripped instantly as i was still fully on the gas at the time and threw me onto my back but the quad was not far behind as it came to land right on top of me.

4. i was trying to clear a 30 ft jump but leaned a bit to far back in the air and ended up sliding off the back of my machine as it landed.

well every month i go out to my dads friends farm near the mississippi river. there is also a place near where they are developing land for townhomes with great trails and there is another place out in the middle of a cornfield. and 1 or 2 times a year i go down with my freinds who also own quads and dirtbikes to one of my friends farm down in the western part of kentucky. 1 time i went to northern wisconsin with my dad and his friends who own quads to another one of his freinds parents farm where we conduct in doing neutral runs where you go out at night (so you can see if a car is coming) and go down streets until you find a big winding street that goes downhill and race each other while in neutral, drafting techniques realy come into play here.
