Not long until its out in the UK its date for the UK 21st Oct 05. I wonder who else is going to get the Collectors Edition, if you buy the Collectors Edition, for about £50.

Quake II (Free)
The "Reckoning" and "Ground Zero" Quake II Expansion Packs (Free)
"Making Of" Feature (Looking forward to watching this, unless I change my mind and get the default version insted.)

50 quid ?... Insane AND stupid at the same time....

If I have to pay more than the equivalent of 30 for this, I'm think I'm holding out for the "Gold" edition... And I already paid 20 pounds for Q2 - Why would I want another one ?....
 
But Collectors Editions can get more money added on them in the future, if you keep it in mint condition. And Gold Edition is Collectors Edition.

Yeah well.. I tend to throw away boxes and stuff anyway - So the chance of me getting some money back... Non existent ;)

And I was thinking about the 12 months after release - "Gold" box - Not the Pre-order Gold box ;)
 
Collector's Edition is not really a collector's edition if you can imagine how many are going to be produced. :)

I'll just get the regular version, probably only after a few months and if I get a better computer. :(
 
Looks like i have to wait until Nov 05 to get this now. Since FM06 is out on 21st Oct now. If i get my bonus pay next payday, then i may still get Quake 4 on the day it is out.
 
I know plus its a bargin to get Quake 2 for free with the collectors edition of Quake4 and you cannot beat that kind of deal. With its add on packs aswell.

I hope i get my bonus pay in my next payday in the next week or 2.
 
Got mine preordered here in the states. Comes out on the 19th of this month. I got the regular Quake 4 package for 40 bucks from gogamer.com. I already beat Quake 2.
 
Hope they release a demo, I ain't gonna fork out any money until I try it first. If its as good as Quake II then I would buy it.

I've had 2 copies of Quake 2 so I don't plan on forking out for a 3rd ;) I also 'obtained' the addon packs for free as I couldn't find them anywhere.

I hope they put more thought into keeping the gameplay interesting unlike Doom 3.
 
I heard its way better then Quake 2 in single player, plus its multiplayer beats Quake 3. And i bet they will bring a demo out, online and on PC Gamer mag. Aswell as other mags.

Well, ID aren't developing Quake 4. Raven are. They're just using ID's D3 engine...

I know, I just hope Raven make a better use of the D3 engine then ID did. Which they probably will :)
 
My PC is so out of date now it wont run im guessing, is it using the doom 3 engine?

edit just read (above :dunce: ) it is using doom 3 engine, this means it will run on my pc yes indeed, GF4 TI 4600 ran doom 3 60fps after tweaking with the CFG files, uless they fook it up like they did with BF2 :grumpy:

Also, looking at some of the videos, it seems quite a bit slower than previous quakes, and a lot more vehicle-oriented. This dissapoints me a lot. Too many games are being slowed down and mellowed out in favor of the casual gamer, for example HL2.
HL1 had a fast-paced, strafejumping, twitch-shooting single and multiplayer, but HL2 pretty much threw all the stuff that made HL1 so fast and fun in the garbage, just to give those with less concentration a chance.

I will definately buy Q4, but if it is anything like D3 or HL2 I dont think I will enjoy it as much.

I am, however, eagerly awaiting news of a Q4CPMA mod :D

Wow I think you've pin-pointed why I don't like Half-Life 2 that much. Half-Life 1 was great and the action was fast, fun and the atmosphere was fantastic (At the time it really did feel like you were caught in a disaster).

I'm sorry to say Half-Life 2 bored me nearly as much as Doom 3. And the ending was so 'meh' it wasn't even funny, let alone how little time it took me to get to it.

But yeah I hope your wrong about Quake 4, but I suspect your probably right. Atleast Prey looks promising from what I've seen.

I don't know if the Americans have something like the FSK in Germany but here the Game is rated for 16 year olds!

That game must be cut! I mean Germany is a country where games like Quake4 are banned before you can buy them here and now Quake 4 gets FSK16!!!

So I've heard that there's a scene where some parts of the body... well you know... But this scene is very important for the story so what do you think? Would it be cut? maybe here're some more people from Germany who could be affected??

The game should get a rating for 18 year old people but not for 16. That's my opinion. Are there any new trailers yet?
 
Looks like I may have to delay Quake 4 Collectors Edition until next month or 2, since i may be going to MPH05 on myself.
 
Every once in a while I have to pay full retail for a new game to help support the industry. Quake IV is one of those games. It took a while to get configured correctly on my 16:9 TV but after I was all done, I had High settings for a 1776x1000 resolution. It's not as dark as Doom 3 was and there's plenty of eye candy. Here are some shots from last night:

Also, do you get a constant high FPS on your TV or is the FPS on TV related to your computer specs?
Also one last question, why did you have trouble configuring it?

Yeah...had trouble running DVI out of the card to DVI in on the TV. And, at the time I first tried it, the DVI to component adapter from ATI didn't work good either at the time.

The way it is setup now using the ATI DVI->HDTV Adapter , configuration is simple and easy with little or no effort to get it looking good on the TV. Most new games I have to manually add the custom resolution to a config file but that's not a big deal. Also, in order to maintain consistent framerates, I have to disable the CRT monitor and just run the 60".

Refresh rates are a bit of concern as HD resolutions on that TV only supports 30 Hz. Not a huge setback, although higher framerates can't really be appreciated. Not sure if there is a work around unless I cut the resolution, still working on that. Let me know if you have any questions, I'd be more than happy to help you get going.

I was going on more what he said and what I thought my reactions would be. Having played the game I can see it is a quality game, but nothing revolutionary. The guns are nice though but I haven't played it much.

I expect alot from a game to really impress me as I've seen most of it all before. :)
 
My Dad managed to get hold of a copy the other day, and you need a really good PC to run it. My Dad's new-ish Laptop (1.83 Pentium M, 512mb ram, X600 256mb graphics) hardly ran it. He had to turn resolution down to its lowest and the quality settings. The framerate was fine at 800x600 (just), but we had to turn it down more because of gittering and pausing.

From what I saw, the game looked very good and looks like a good title to get for the Xbox 360. 👍
