Choose your style of Qualifying

I would Like qualifying to be more authentic and be across ALL races (including Online races) Unlike in GT4, in which it was in only Series Races.:indiff:

I think with 16 car fields, qualifying for all races is essential, starting midway through the pack just doesn't cut it.

I think qualifying could add a lot to the gran turismo series if implemented in the right way. That said it should be optional, some people just want to go and race but like previous games you should start from the back.

I'd have the EVEN older Quali F1 setup where you can do up to 12 laps with otherwise normal rules.

I've picked old F1,as in GT5p there were session based TT events. But I would like current style F1 for certain events, especially were fuel management and possibly tyre numbers are limited.

Old F1 style is what i selected for the poll. As despite the flaws, it works. There are other good ways too, one or two lap qualifiers sound good, as the race is what determines the big difference between drivers, the qualifying should not have the same fastest drivers at the front everytime, i think that is a big problem with the qualifying 'sessions' style.

But in the context of GT5, i would want the qualifying to be either:

-Specific to the type of event (So NASCAR, SuperGT etc. go by the real qualifying type)

-Specified by the host of public/private online lobbies (This is a must. Although if we don't get a choice, it should be one lap wonder to save time, racing on tracks as a ghost to stop people messing up other people's laps)

-For any other (fictional) event, i want the classic GT style, unlimited qualifying and unlimited sessions. But for offline mode only.

EDIT: And if you don't like the qualifying rounds, don't worry, this is a game. I'm sure you will have the option to start at the back of the field if you want to save time.

i chose other. online you should be given 2 laps if its a short course with one warm up lap..If at the nurb qualifying online you only get one lap. against computer- as many laps as you want to take.

One lap wonder, as it prevents the player from gaining time advantage from another car's slipstream (If quali is implemented online). Also the fact that it's out of the way quicker and its puts pressure on to complete a flawless lap.

Yeah, but too much pressure - you slip up trying to beat the time of a 911 when you're in a GT-R, F430 or some other 911 rival, you crash, you're out.

Other.

I like the idea of qualifying races. Like Sprint cars, race to get into the main event. Or Daytona 500 has the Gatoraide Duel 150's, which is two separate races to determine the odd and even starting positions for the Daytona 500. Only P1 and P2 and set on the day of time trials. Everything else gets decided through the Duel races.

Forward to about 4:00
This car (Nissan GTR) is so much easier to drive on the limit than the Porsche

Strange how people are under the impression that 911s are easy to drive, this is the second time i've seen a post like this in the past 2 days. Very quick they may be, they can be very difficult to handle at high speeds because of the weight distribution. Under pressure in a GTR is nothing compared to being under pressure in a 911, you can see from this video and by what he's saying that the 911 requires so much more concentration and is easier to make mistakes in.

Sorry for going off topic mind, so i'll post something on topic to keep the thread alive:

I don't think multiple stage qualifying like in current F1 would work unless it is pre-organised by a group of players. I don't think its necessary to have a feature like that in GT5.

5 minute session, thats all you need. F1:CE gives around about this, varying from track to track for online mode. Once the host has started the race/qualifying, anyone joining will only be able to use the remaining time.

Otherwise, won't people be waiting forever while each person completes their "lap"? May as well just make it time-limited, though I wouldn't mind the old F1 qualifying of 12-laps-only.

You need to give people enough time to complete at least 2 laps, allowing them to at least try again from a mistake - and it doesn't take any of the pressure away. 1-lap qualifying would be too frustrating for the majority.

I personally would like to see the same, unlimited sessions that were in GT4 for offline.
And then a session of 1 warm-up lap followed by 1 or 2 hot laps for online. These sessions should either be run at the same time without numerous vehicles on the track at the same time, or seperately one by one. Imagine sitting in pit lane watching that Audi slowly chipping away at your time through each sector. Mmmmm

I also want PD to bring back the prize money for poll position. That $1500 made it waaaaay more tempting...
