question about banning

so, those infractions that have "Never" expiration dates really don't expire/disappear?? how about mine?? i'm not double or triple posting anymore, because back then i don't know how you guys make that "Originally posted by (insert username) then you reply/quote.., so, my infraction will stay as it is???

That's correct. You're not multiple posting anymore - and note, you haven't gotten any more warnings or infractions for it.

Really, people, there's no need to worry about having something on your record - as long as you recognize what it means, and follow the rules Jordan has placed for everyone. If you do that, your infraction may never disappear, but your record won't get any worse, either.

I really don't see what's to be concerned with having a warning on your record, because it's only visible by yourself (apart the staff, which gave it to you in the first place, so they would always know).

Unless someone's thinking of screwing up and the points they have left left don't allow them to do it without a ban coming their way...

My question is, do the points ever go away? If someone has been a member for 5-10 years, spent a hefty bit on GTP merchandise and has had no incidents besides the 1 (for example). Would he/she still have the strike?
If the infraction is set for say 3 years, then 3 years after you receive the infraction, it will be gone. But if it's one like mine where it says never then it will be there forever.

Lucky for me Duke was nice enough to only give me 5 points... I still wish I could get rid of it, but I'll get over it.

Everybody has a maximum of 30 infraction points – hit 30 and you’re banned.

• A Warning always counts as 0 points.
• An Infraction usually counts as 10 points (in keeping with our 3-strikes-and-you’re-out policy; 3 x 10 = 30).
• We reserve the right to modify the points for an Infraction (for example, we’ll usually give 5 points for less egregious infractions).

Since you just have one Warning, all that means is that we’re trying to give you a nudge in the right direction. You’re in no way in danger of being banned or what not.

As for “other people”: there isn’t any way for you to see who has Warnings/Infractions – you can only view your own. Trust me, you’re not the only one with a Warning. ;)

Interesting. So there is a 30 point limit?

I was handed a single 30 point infraction by putting a "in before lock" post. May be a "in before lock" post is consider a major infraction here? or have I sentenced to life cause I did 68mph in a 65mph zone?

I am not trying to stir anything up but just wonder.

@ Rocket Punch

You were one of the few who received a temporary 2 day ban for the IBTL, i.e. a 30 point infraction, but with an expiration date of 2 days from when it was intiated, and hence the ban (and points) expired and you're still with us and free from warnings or further infractions. 👍

Following a sporadic trend of people posting simply the four letters "IBTL" in numerous threads during the first year or so of GT4, action was taken to bring an end to what is considered a pointless waste of posting space.
It seems to have worked well.

As Smallhorses mentions above, that was a dose of strong medicine in order to stop an epidemic that was sweeping GTP at the time. Also as he mentions, it was a 48-hour expiration, and as soon as it expired, it also left your record.

Not really OT, but I found this in the bannaninations log - How can that happen ? :-)

AK47brrapp - 01 February 2008 - banned before he even finished registering

Someone explain that one please :-)

Between registration and account activation.

I'm not accusing anyone of doing anything, let me make that perfectly clear !..

Is it safe to assume it was a known and previously banned member ?...

Yep, it's safe to assume that.

Some of us have the Memberlist, set to By Date, Descending, in our bookmarks... :D

Also, there have been quite a few members (especially on the GT5:P forum, but not only) that have been banninated lately, but still they're not showing at all on the "Banned User Log".

Why is that?

I'm fairly sure you gotta "earn" a place on the bannanination log. Show up, act retarded, tell Duke to p*** off, get banned. I don't think that earns you a spot unless you're really imaginative :-)

Well, the Banned User Log is really more of a resource for existing members with questions, rather than a detailed report of every banning. It's mostly intended for when a longer term member suddenly disappears, or when a newer (but definitely infamous) member gets banned. Curious members can come see why.

For obvious trolls or, shall we say, 'shooting stars', we don't bother to record the action since it will likely be clear (and unimportant) why it happened.

That is exactly what I said 2 or 3 posts above.. No wonder I never get any fame :-|

I'm not saying it should be detailed, just to include everyone that gets banned. And seeing that the main goal (obvious) is to alert people to the possible outcome of improper actions as a member here, the way I see it, the more names on that list, the more people may think twice before spamming/whatever.
Otherwise, for new members, it seems like a remote chance of ever getting banned, since there are so few over all these years ("they must've done something REALLY bad, some stupid threads can't hurt anyone").
I might be exaggerating, but that's the way I see things.

Still... those two on the bottom (the "evil twin" and maccasufc) were both new members, and relating to Neo_The_User (to just mention one of the recent bannings), they were far less infamous than that guy.
Not so much now, but more at the beggining of my visits to this site I was always curious to see the Banned User Log and then try to search for their posts, to see what they did to get banned. That's why I think everyone that gets banned should be on that list, so other members (mostly new ones, of course - but also just out of curiosity for older members) can see why did "that guy" get banned . It can serve both for learning and for a few laughs, depending on the point of view.

I've noticed i still have my infractions from 2006. They haunt me every time i see them. :nervous:

I'm not a n00b anymore though so i have nothing to worry about. :)

Pressure from some of the moderating staff caused him to leave, and for some reason they apparently banned him.

This is off topic, but I noticed Orion had a previous user names bar in his profile, how do you do this?

Well actually, I don't really get it. I thought Orion leaved GTP on his own (and he wasn't exactly banned at that time) and said he would never come back here again because he had a beef with some mods (TM I think) about his private life. Well I don't usually see him online very often but, well..... I would just wish him a happier life outside GTP and one day, meet again on some other forum........ ;)
