Hi, my 80gb PS3 got YLOD, but I made a backup of all my saves before, so no problem about that. I bought a new slim one and tried to install GT5 (I have the standard edition) but in order to play I have to download a lot of updates and that'll take a lot of time. I heard that the GT5 XL edition has those updates, at least the spec 2.0, so my question is, if I rent the GT5 XL edition and install all the updates and my savegame, will the GT5 standard disc work once I return the GT5 XL disc?

I don't know, never tried. However I would imagine so - yes.

If I can answer the question with a question...what exactly is the yellow light of death? Is it the orange blinking light next to the green blinking light on the front of the console? If so, mine always seems to be blinking...I don't want another hard drive failure so I'll ask here what it is.

To answer your question, I would say yes. I have the XL edition and I thought the only difference was the codes that came with the game. The disks should be similar.

The YLOD is when the light next to the power button which is typically green (on) red(off) turns yellow

The orange light you see flashing is the HDD light, which in the Industry we call the 'doing stuff light' make sure never quit GT5 if this light is on and the game is saving, or you'll kill your save-game file

Just buy the XL. I'm sure your theory would work, but the XL edition is just an awesome deal. With the price you'll pay just to rent it, you might as well just buy the game. It never hurts to have to extra copies; i have 4 copies of just the XL edition along with my original copy from the release date.

Ahh that's what I thought it was...good! Thank you for your knowledge :dopey:

The XL 2.0 initial install will allow for a faster download and still use your spec 1 disc. But like everyone else said the DLC alone makes just buying the XL edition worth it. You'll start with 23 cars including the Redbull x2011

That's the point, I already bought all DLC. But if I can still use my gt5 standard edition then I'll just rent it. To all the GT5 XL users, when you go to game data, does the GT5 icon have the XL label?, or something different than the standard one?. Thanks to all who replied!

Sadly, any more, the DLC offer from GT5 XL isn't valid. From what I remember when I got mine, it expired at the end of March.

weve been discussing this for about a day. In that time you could have just...downloaded the updates. Just sayn.
