It's the usual PD bait-and-switch. "Great news! In GT5 you'll be able to paint your cars any colour you like!"
When I saw that you had to acquire a car in your desired colour first I actually thought that was quite cool. It adds a layer of pseudo-achievement that would otherwise be lacking, and provides an additional incentive for car collecting and trading. I'm with them so far.
Then I learn that the colour is single-use only. So much for grinding the 1m cr for a McLaren F1 and painting half my garage Historic Orange. I don't like this, but I can accept it as a design decision.
But there's no preview. So your one-time use paint may be wasted on a car that really doesn't look as you'd expect it to. Not only have I realised from years of car collecting in Forza (and one terrible RL purchase, though at least I didn't pay for the Laguna Seca Blue E46 M3 convertible that a colleague ordered, waited for and then hated) that sometimes cars just don't look as good as you'd expect in a particular colour, I've also noticed that some cars in the used car lot just don't look "right" in colours that suit them well in RL. This system is starting to stink.
Worse, you don't appear to be able to get most colours. If a given car is in a particular colour in your used car lot, it will still be in the same colour the next time it appears. Some cars were in a range of great colours in GT4 - TVRs, NSXs etc. But no matter how many times you wait for that T350C to come back into stock, it will still be Reflex Purple. The NSX Type S Zero is in Imola Orange, one of my favourites, but I have no access to Cranberry to repaint my own NSX. Yeah, actually it does stink.
And you may not even be able to trade for them! Even if you're online, there's a strong chance that your friends are getting used cars in exactly the same colours as you.
Please PD, at least give me some chance to get the cars I want in the colours I want them in :beg:
