So I recently downloaded the GTR2 Sim-racing demo the other night. Have to say, even with key controls its loads of fun, but I didn't see anywhere to buy it on there website. I did see however GTLegends somewhere on this Forum.

I was just wondering which of these games I should get? I would need a place to download GTR2 legally.

I do however want to know a couple of things about GTLegends.
1.Does it run on XP or Vista?
2.Does it have modern tracks and cars, as well as classics?
3.Can it be moddable with new tracks and cars?

If you can answer these questions for me, it would be of great help!

Get them both. :)

GT Legends can be bought digitally from SimBin, at their online store. The digital version will run quite happily under XP, Vista and Windows 7. If you get a physical copy, the copy protection may not work under Windows 7. Of course, any owner of a physical copy can get the digital version from SimBin for free. :)

As for the track/car list: it's based on the FIA GTC-TC series, which means racing classic cars on modern tracks. And yes, the game can be modded, plenty of stuff available, for instance over here.

GTR2 is not (yet) available as a digital version, presumably because of a licensing issue. According to SimBin, it should be available 'soon', but they have been saying that for a while. ;) Best bet at this point is a physical version from somewhere.

1. Yes.
2. Yes (see #3).
3. Yes. There are mods all over the place, some even hidden.

You should try rFactor as well. If you can find GTR 2 anywhere (try eBay or Amazon) be sure you download the SuperGT mod; the HSV-010 sounds like, well, sex. :)

If you can find both Legends and GTR 2, there's a mod (whose name escapes me) that essentially combines the two into one.

I also see on Steam that they have GTR Evolutions with a combination of Race 07 for $30.00? Is this better than GT Legends? Or is it better to buy GT Legends and mod it. I think I heard GTR Evo had Night to Day racing.

Race07/GTR Evolution is also very good. All Race07 expansions are good, really. :) Don't think it has day/night transitions though, I think that's GTR2.

Power & Glory. Really fun mod. 👍

HistorX (Historic GT) brings GTL into rFactor, and is also really enjoyable.

Correct.

It has more options, that's for sure. Can't comment on physics, as I haven't gotten my hands on a GTR2 copy yet.

GTR2 and GTL are very close.

Power and Glory is GTL in GTR2 physics and is probably the best choice, but GTL is still very good.

GTL is old cars and GTR2 is all the newer stuff, so it really does depend on what type of cars you prefer.

I got Race 07 with the GT Power Pack the other night, it's the first PC sim I've played. After a couple of hours I got comfortable with it but I couldn't keep up with the competition set to 80% and figured I'd gotten into something a bit too serious for me... It took me a while to realise my DFP was set so that accelerate was >50% throttle and brake was <50%, so every time I lifted off my car was slamming on the brakes. I did wonder why I kept locking up and understeering in a straight line, but I blamed it on a dodgy AE86 mod I'd downloaded. After I fixed that and found the 'speed sensitive steering' setting (what were they thinking with that?) and set it to 0%, the sim is incredible, and more to the point, incredibly good value.

As such I got GTR Evo as well, I haven't tried most of the cars yet but the Nürburgring is excellent, I took the Gillet Vertigo for a lap there and my memories of it from GT4, GT5 and Forza 3 combined with the excellent handling of the car meant I put in a pretty good lap first time round, maybe not the fastest I've ever done... Then just before Tiergarten I had a pretty big off and had to retire, which was a shame.

I also got the Retro pack, the hillclimb course is great fun.

Essentially, for what I've paid so far (might get GTR2, the demo was fun and there's plenty of free mods for that), it's great value and a pretty convincing simulation, more so than GT5.

TL, DR: Race 07 is great for the money, GTR Evo is almost essential because of the Nürburgring, some of the free mods are great and you won't be disappointed. The DLCs are pretty cheap for how good they are, too.

That said, I am new to PC sims and I've never driven a race car on a track, but the simulation is convincing enough to me as a car geek and motorsport follower.
